So here's a question. What is up with coldsnap. Are you going to treat it as if it was a current thing or place it back in the past where it belongs with the ice age block. I only ask because its modern legal.

As I have been playing a quite skewed version of a MTG:RPG (Core set + plane sealed//admin-picked pool) that rewarded cards depending on setting (Kher Keep would have tasty goblins!), I feel like this is the next step.
A few questions though:
How does a game or encounter actually play out? This is not covered in the rules as far as I can see.
Do anthem effects, tribal or not, benefit my character in any way?
In the case of multicolor-themed planes, is aligning yourself with a guild expected?
Where can I find the schematics to this cannon the Wizards of the Coast are building? Can it planeswalk?
How important is redundancy in MTG:RPG? (May be read as: Are tribes op?)
All in all this looks pretty interesting!
First, welcome to MTG: RPG. Glad to see that you are interested. Now on to your questions:
Here is the old forum, it should help you figure how things work encounter-wise:http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/forumdisplay.php?f=312
Anthems effect only creatures, no characters get a buff from them.
It is 'expected,' but not required. It does make life easier on the charatcer however.
What cannon do you speak of?
I do not recall anyone building around a tribe, but I can say that most players had playsets of spells.
I can inform you that someone built an Elf tribal character.
It worked well, though it required a, shall we say, difficult-to-obtain amount of gold.
Im totally going to whistle innocently at that one but yeah elf ball was made once though an old loophole and it was insane to watch. It was only countered pretty much by wpl engineered plague craziness.
Greel's is gone right?

Organizations: Organizations are like the Houses of Estark and Guilds of Ravnica. Organizations pay out a salary to all those who belong to them, as well as providing a place to stay. Salaries are paid out weekly in real time. To be paid you must be active. The salary that is paid out is tiered based on the number of tasks that you have completed for them. Players can make their own Organizations, provided they take the Influence trait, after establishing yourself, making contacts and the like. Their pay scale will be determined once the organization has been created.
Initiate: You have recently joined and have completed less then five tasks. 5 gold per week.
Member: You have completed five or more tasks. 10 gold per week.
Inner Circle: You have completed ten or more tasks. 15 gold per week.
I see a lot about "crunch" in the character creation rules, but next to nothing about "fluff:"
-What races are allowed? (I'm assuming has to be humanoid, of humanlike intelligence, with no innate supernatural abilities, so no: angels, demons, dragons, vampires, zombies, werewolves, treefolk, aven, merfolk unless from a plane where bipedal.)
-Can a character already be a member of a House/Guild as part of his/her backstory? Can his/her backstory incorporate a legendary creature or artifact?
-Will there be RP-wide story events that all players are expected to take part in? Or will players largely be playing out their own character-driven stories that do not intersect?
-What races are allowed? (I'm assuming has to be humanoid, of humanlike intelligence, with no innate supernatural abilities, so no: angels, demons, dragons, vampires, zombies, werewolves, treefolk, aven, merfolk unless from a plane where bipedal.)
A full list of the old active characters can be found here, but in short: We're pretty flexible on what races are allowed. For example, a quick list of races that previous characters have had:
Please try to keep things at least somewhat sensible, though - I don't imagine we're too keen on people trying to recreate things that are far and above normal human understanding. Would rather not have Superman-facsimilies flying through the Netherverse and all that.
-Will there be RP-wide story events that all players are expected to take part in? Or will players largely be playing out their own character-driven stories that do not intersect?
You will have the opportunity to do either. We have main story arcs in the works for everyone, sidequests that small groups will be able to do (think 2-3 people, for example), and individual storylines for characters who desire them or need them (those who choose to gain the Spark, for instance, will probably need some individual threads to cater to them).
-Can a character already be a member of a House/Guild as part of his/her backstory? Can his/her backstory incorporate a legendary creature or artifact?
I'll get ahold of the other WPLs about these two questions. In the old RPG, you could start out already a member of the previous Houses, so my inclination is to say yes - I'll let you know if this changes, however. As for the legendary inclusions, my inclination will be to say no - players aren't allowed to have Legendary creatures show up in their satchels because they potentially are involved in storylines, and Legendary artifacts truly are legendary in this RPG - there's only one of them in existence, so the odds of finding or even running into one are relatively small.
Again, I'll get a hold of the other WPLs, though, and we'll discuss if anything should be changed to reflect any new rules.
I've received confirmation about the answers I gave above. Please refer to this post if your character is in any way affected, as some of the answers have changed.
-What races are allowed? (I'm assuming has to be humanoid, of humanlike intelligence, with no innate supernatural abilities, so no: angels, demons, dragons, vampires, zombies, werewolves, treefolk, aven, merfolk unless from a plane where bipedal.)
Your character must be a plane-appropriate humanoid, with humanlike intelligence and no innate supernatural abilities that would otherwise make your character "better" than someone else's.
-Can a character already be a member of a House/Guild as part of his/her backstory?
No. While the previous system had evidence that this might have happened before, the WPLs prefer that players go through the application process to join a House or guild after their character is created.
-Can his/her backstory incorporate a legendary creature or artifact?
No, for the reasons I stated above.
I will add these questions and answers to the main rules thread for further reference. I apologize if these changes inconvenience anyone.
Can I assume the other four Leylines (Leyline of Anticipation et al.) are subject to the "Leyline clause" in the rules?
What rarity is a spell that appears at multiple rarities within the legal card sets? (e.g. Arrest is common on Mirrodin, but uncommon on Ravnica; Bound in Silence is uncommon in Future Sight, but common in Modern Masters; Doom Blade appears most often at common, but most recently at uncommon, in core sets.)
EDIT: Because I don't want to spam up the thread with more questions:
"The World" tab in the rules thread says that spells from Alara Reborn may not be taken yet, but the "Story" tab says that Alara starts fully unlocked. Which is correct?
Can we create multiple characters? (e.g. I make a character from Dominaria now, then when JOU releases in a few months I decide I want to RP a character from Theros instead.) Can an old character be voluntarily retired to make way for a new one?
Can I assume the other four Leylines (Leyline of Anticipation et al.) are subject to the "Leyline clause" in the rules?
Correct. I'll mark them as such in the rules thread.

If a card has multiple printings in different sets, the lowest rarity is taken from sets legal in the RPG. For example:
- Doom Blade is common in Magic 2012 and before, but uncommon in Magic 2014. Therefore, it is common in the RPG.
- Rancor is common in Urza's Legacy and uncommon in Magic 2013. Since Urza's Legacy is not a legal format (currently) in our RPG, it is therefore considered uncommon.
... Glad to see this thing is still moving forward. Wish I had the time to play, but RL is kicking my ass so hard I haven't even been on MTGS for like four months.
Sorry about abandoning everything I had going here and at the P&PI and such. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into the swing of things at some nebulous point in the future.
I look forward to seeing this game come back better than ever. Maybe I'll even create a character for it eventually.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p

As I'm waiting for whats up with my PM stuff i ran across a few questions.
So if we aren't in Ravnica or the main plane either through choice or previous story are we currently waiting on a new sub forum?
What are the sets if your from the dominaria (what are the native plane sets other than core)?
Whats the deal if we are from a different plane? Like the older project I've noticed almost everyone so far is in Estark but if our roots are from elsewhere whats the deal currently if your from another plane but on Dominaria?

Alive with a new name for the new forums. I sent a PM to Qfx. I'm perusing the updated rules as it looks like we finally introduced the trait system that we had worked on last spring and summer. I will probably do a NGP. By the way, nice to see you again Fenris.
Its nice to see you to. Was going to say I didn't recognize the name but the eye made me remember. That and you were the guy who left Gear on Naya :). So as i wait on my questions anyone know why the heck my banner has a stripe through it?

Eh, I heard there were cat things there. You're a cat. They're cats. Everything should have been peachy.
Joking aside, you may have a line if you used links on your old banner. I believe that process splits the image for identification. That is merely a conjecture though.
@LockeNKant Yeah I suppose your right I mean Gears a cat and the Nacatl are cats. Should work out no? Except for the whole god sized beast thing....little kitty vs huge beast not sure how much that works out.
Any-who just bumping to make sure that my previous questions don't go unseen.

1. Basically you will be waiting on a new Plane sub-forum to open. I will thell this though, atthe moment we have no plans to open any more Planes up. We are focusing our energy on getting these going before we put any energy into geting other started.
2. Time Sprial, Time Sprial: Time Shifted, Planar Chaos, Future Sight, and Coldsnap.
3. New characters must be of a native species of the Plane he/she is on. Acomidations for those using New Game Plus will be made on a case by case basis.

Thanks Qfx for getting to those things. I will make a point then to have Gear be on Dominaria then. I may build into his backstory though his knowledge of how to get to Naya given his past.
