"Drat." Von Orwell knows that he is in over his head, but then again, he always is. "B-4-5-7-4-R-D," he spits out the latters and numbers rapidfire, "A little assistance vould be nice right now. Maybe use those nice auxillary systems ov yours on ze tanks?" As he requests aid from the brotherbot, which is after all what it is there fore, he turns a sharp right back towards the roads, and momentarily wonders if he remembered to install the ejection glider before deciding it doesn't matter, as he won't find out until he either finds himself gliding through the air or he doesn't.
There's a sound from above. It's hard to tell if its a positive or negative. Then there's a soft beep. Followed by an explosion that rocks the heavens.
Slightly stunned from the explosion, the good doctor forcibly unclenches his hands from their deathgrip. Too stunned for a witty comment to himself, he can do naught but take a fraction of a second to reorient himself to his current position, and why there is a ringing in his head.
The car... Is still going forwards. Thankfully, it's through a small glen. Otherwise they would have wrecked by now. Behind them is a glowing ruin. A big glowing ruin.
"Ah. Vell." Still slightly stunned, the poor doctor is starting to wonder what the true purpose of his 'helper' is, though he would, of course, never dare say anything like that out loud. After all, he does know a little about politics. Still, he is fairly certain that there was no glowing ruin behind him before, and so either 'his' Brotherbot was able to call down the thunder, and the hand of Zeus, and the hammer of the gods, and quite a few other things besides, or he has been translocated. He also strongly suspects the first.
Still, nothing like a glowing ruin to distract anyone who might try to pursue him, and the destruction will probably make the lab easier to breach. After all, we can't let something minor like the utter annihilation of a significant portion of land get in the way of justified and not at all mad vengeance, can we now? Certainly not! And the plants probably survived. Probably. Hard to kill, they are, so no worries on that front.
Mind suitably soothed, Orwell comes to just as the glen is being left, just in time to start avoiding trees again. Especially that one, the one he just passed on the left. "Vell then. To ze lab ve must go. It should be easy, vat vith zat glow to distract people."
And so, the good doctor continues driving his now-no-longer-in-any-way-able-to-pass-as-unharmed van onwards, towards the lab where the first stage of his perfectly rational plan still awaits.
Sorry about the slow response times. Still, I'm having a blast, though perhaps not as much as one as the good Doktor.
It looks like there may have been an orbital stirke behind them. As for the lab, well, it seems like they're in the clear. No more pursuit for the time being. Now that there is no person(s) following and stopping them, they make brilliant time making it to the lab itself.
