As ever with Skye Masterson, news seems to come in pairs, some good, others bad.
The good news: Skye was given 1st chair for the woodwinds and would get a flute solo in the upcoming fall concert.
The bad news: The concert is Thursday and she's just seen the sheet music for the first time.
With some luck, however, the girl was able to find a music video of the song they're playing. So if the girl can't sight-read well enough, perhaps she'll be able to play well enough by ear.
Certainly worth a shot. I mean, you have your flute right here so after listening a few times it might be worth it to turn down the volume and try to match the music. Because sadly, Skye doesn't have anyone she can turn to to come over and give her a hand...

Skye Masterson twirled herself around in her office chair in her room, sitting at her desk, headphones up on her head as she listened to the song. It was a very nice song, and she was confident she could learn it. School today was pretty tame except for that news. She had buried her nose into the sheet music and sort of got the feel for it, but hearing it now actually played made her sigh and smile to herself. She grabbed her favorite flute, polished and ready, playing a few notes, trying to imitate it. She even had the music open, but she wasn't using it. She wanted to do it from memory.
She kept playing and playing, her mind wandering off to a big green field where she could almost glide over the grass, playing to the wide open air. Anywhere else but here. She was alone almost all of the time in her room. She didn't mind it. She just wish she had somewhere else to go. Maybe someone to talk to, once in a while. She sometimes missed her mother, imagining sometimes she'll still come home from work.
Her mind was far from her assignment as it wandered. She still kept playing, trying to imitate the song, but adding her own melodies. She was usually like this, especially on a boring monday--listening to music, playing her own, and imagining she was somewhere else.
One of the good things about Skye's imagination was that she could envision herself in any number of fantastic places and still have enough concentration to focus on her present task.
Well, normally anyway. For whatever reason as soon as the girl's mind wandered from the music, notes that she could hit in her sleep began to falter and fall flat. Clearly she was distracted, and if she was gonna learn that piece in three days she'd need all the concentration she could muster, and then some.
What the girl needed, more than anything else, was to relax. Maybe some water would help...

Skye tried to keep playing, but she sighed. Something was amiss. She couldn't relax. She had too much on her mind. She only had a few days to learn this song and she didn't want to work for it. She pulled off the headphones and walked to her bathroom, flute in hand. She did need a shower after a long monday at school. She liked the acoustics in there.
She turned on the water and began to undress, whistling the song to herself.
The song had a very nice melody, one that's really catchy to be fair.
The shower on the other hand was a lot less nice. No matter what she tried, the shower water was lukewarm at best and downright frigid at worst. Not only could she barely concentrate, but if this didn't fix itself soon she'd have to get out and ask her dad to see if there was anything *he* could do. If that didn't work they'd have to call a plumber, and that would cost a bundle...
There was so much going on; the music, the pressure of having to be 1st chair, all the rest of the homework, and now the water. It was almost too much; swirling around in her mind. Make it stop...make it stop!!!
The flute dropped to the floor of the bathtub with a loud clang, its owner slowly calming herself down. Breathe...breathe....keep your head about you. This isn't that big a deal. Focus on what matters...and whatever you do, don't stop breathing...calm...down...
The first thing Skye notices after her minor panic attack is that the water seems to have jumped back to a feasible temperature. Warm enough that she could actually relax instead of suffer. Of course the attack itself was cause for concern; she couldn't remember being scared like that ever before in her life, nor did she have any idea how she was able to snap out of it, and to a point that worried her. Was she coming down with something maybe?
Regardless, after her shower, Skye still has a mountain of homework and a solo to work on; to say nothing of dealing with the reality of what happened.
What was going on?

Skye felt strange as she washed. What was going on? Her head hurt a little and she rubbed her temples. What happened? Where was she? She thought the wash would help her clear her head. But now she was in a worse mood. What was with the water? She looked at her flute and growled. She needed to get out of this stuffy place. She had a million things going on at once. She knew she had work to do. She grumbled and grabbed her flute as she dried and threw on some clothes, putting earbuds in her ears and going out the back of her house to get some air and to put some distance between her and her responsibilities. She put on the song she was supposed to learn and walked with the flute in hand, as usual.
Running away from the problems really isn't gonna do anything to solve them; but at this point getting your head on straight is more important. You need to want this, you need to focus on the song. The notes start coming out heistantly, but then after some time start to flow more and sound a lot closer to what you're trying to do.
It's not enough to play for the concert right now, but you've got a heck of a head start. Cleared your head up a bit to boot; so that's a relief.

She thought these over in her head, trying to empty it of everything else as she went outside and plodded through to the treeline, looking for a stump that she liked to sit on while back here. She found it and leaned back against it, her back resting against another tree that was growing right next to it. She closed her eyes and listened, slowly putting her instrument to her lips and playing it, her mind letting go of everything but the music.
After a few more tries with her eyes glued to the music, Skye decides to take one more attempt, this time blind. After all it's how she's going to have to do it at the concert so she best get used to memorizing it.
As soon as the first few notes start wafting into the air, the gril's normally active imagination drops into gear and takes off, evoking fantastic landscapes and and almost ecstatic warmth enveloping her senses as each note hangs in the air with grace and fluidity.
As the last note fades and the song ends, it affords the budding floutist a moment to reflect on things. One thing stands out: at several points during the course of that ast playthrough, there were several times when she was right about to miss a note, only to have fingers seem to jump to the correct position a split second before they needed to; as if guided by magic.
Heh, yeah right...obviously she's thinking too hard into this...but aside form all of that the sun is starting to set. Looks like you've been out here a bit longer than you thought.

Skye got lost in the music, letting her mind go free as she played, until she entered a sort of trance, or zone, playing without thinking. Once she finished, she pulled away and looked at the flute in her hands. It was almost stuck there, her fingers firm and gripping it. She slowly peeled her fingers away and nearly dropped it. What was that? She never played like that before. She stood up and looked all around her, the sky getting darker. Evening was approaching. She plodded back home, getting hungry, though looking at the flute every now and then. Part of her didn't want to play any more tonight... but the other was curious as hell. She wanted to do it again.
Well, there's a reason they call it being "in the zone", the saying comes from the idea that you're in a sort of almost self-induced trance; akin to hypnotism (Skye had never been hypnotized before but she knew it was possible to some degree).
Especially after that preformance, the next half hour seems to almost evaporate into nothingness. Dinner was...something, she couldn't remember what. She and her dad talked; he went and did something, she did something else...it's really kind of a blur.

It's nearing up on 10 in the evening and Skye is still in a sort of confused state, still contemplating what the hell happened out there. Her flute was getting damp from her constantly holding the thing in her hand; and unless she wanted to take one more shot, one more attempt to recreate that hypnotic, almost supernatural performance...
unless she wanted to do that she should probably get to bed soon.

Skye was wondering more and more wild ideas about it. Trance? Hypnotism? Maybe some sort of weird spell. Maybe she lost her mind. Maybe that song is enchanting. Maybe she ate something bad. Maybe there were some bad spores in the air. Maybe her flute is magical.
She kept thinking and thinking, and then she saw the time. Almost ten, and her father didn't like her playing too late. She sat down and looked at the instrument, then sighed and shrugged.
"Why not," she whispered to herself and then put the flute to her lips, closing her eyes and playing again. Not trying to recapture that same trance, but just trying to clear her mind. One more time.
Despite all the theories she went over in her mind, Lord Occam would have gone with the most obvious: muscle memory (keep in mind, that's arguably one of the better possible outcomes so it's not bad that it's the odds-on favorite)
Still, the girl decided to let her mind empty, focusing on nothing but the song she could hear in her head as she lifted the flute to her mouth.
---
As the song ended and left the room in silence, Skye was just sitting on her bed, a combination of amazment and awe in her face as an almost giddy sensation wrapped around her. She had been perfect in every possible way, matching rythym, pitch, and even volume dead-on.
Most performers dream of giving a perfect performance. Skye had just done it twice in the span of a couple hours. And yet...she still had no explanation for what the hell was happening to her, granting that unheard of playing-ability.
Then again, maybe tomorrow she'll have a better read on things.

Skye finished the song and blinked, looking at the flute. Her face was flushed and she was unexpectedly smiling. Had she just done that? She'd barely glanced at the music sheets and heard the song only a handful of times. But... really? Maybe she was tricking herself into believing it was true. What had happened to her? She wanted to try it again, but she saw the clock and slowly let out a sigh. Too late to try it now. She put it away slowly and climbed into bed. She found it hard to sleep, wondering what had possessed her. Some sort of innate talent? Was she really that good? Was it the song, or the flute? She had a lot of trouble finding sleep that night, but eventually she did.
The next morning, Skye was up bright and early and actually looking forward to going to school, if anything just to try playing the song again. As she dressed and got ready, she wondered if she could play it again for her teacher or classmates. That would blow them away! Well, maybe. Maybe she would be accused of cheating or witchcraft or something. She laughed a little to herself. Really? No. Either way she was itching to play again.

Upon waking up, this is what Skye intended to do.
Once she realized what has happened, that no longer seems feasible.
Skye finds herself in a picturesque meadow with a river cut through it; Skye is no long er in her PJ's but instead in the clothes she wore that day, and probably the only thing that's keeping her from going totally bat☺☺☺☺ crazy is that her flute is right by her side in the grass.
This is what the girl finds herself in. How she intends to get out is another thing entirely, especially because as far as you can see, there's not another sentient being around.

Skye opened her eyes, and then blinked. She rubbed her eyes and looked around. What the hell? Was this still a dream? It had to be. She must be dreaming, though she's not entirely sure why she would be dreaming of a meadow. She pinched herself, and it definitely hurt. She bit her lip and thought about it, slowly realizing that she wasn't in Kansas anymore, dream or none. She slowly reached down to her flute and felt the cold metal. She clutched it and bit her lip, calling out.
"Daddy?"
No reply, of course. "Hello?" She turned all around, then sighed. She can't just sit here the whole time. Might as well make this, whatever it is, interesting. She started walking in no particular direction, whistling to herself, wondering if she had sleepwalked far from her house.
"Hello?" At this point Skye turns around to see another girl. How she missed her the first time was strange, but she was likely more happy to find another human being.
"Huh...well this isn't what I expected...what are you doing here?"
You note that the girl looks about as old as you, maybe a little older, with light blond hair. In general there's really not a lot that looks "special" from what you can tell...but she's here, so that has to mean something.

Skye jumped when she saw the girl, biting her lip and looking at her. "Well... it's not what I expected either, I mean.. are you a real person? Or part of this dream?" She asked, curiously. "Maybe you're a figment of my imagination... you popped out of nowhere fast enough." She thought to herself aloud.
"In order: yes, yes, no, and no. This is a dream, but I'm real, and from what I know, it's probably one of those lucid dreams. I'm not a figment of your imagination and since I know this is a dream, I know I'm not lost." A soft breeze winds its way through the field, tousling your hair a bit. if this is a lucid dream as the girl claims, it would explain a little bit. But still...
"So...what year is it, how did the painting break, and what did Julie say to guilt you into this? You can ignore almost everything she told you by the way, she's a bit of a drama queen."

Skye reaches up and combs her fingers through her hair, looking at this stranger oddly. "Um... I don't know what you're talking about. One minute I'm playing a song on my flute and then going to bed for the night, the next I wake up in the middle of nowhere in a field talking to strangers... Where am I?"
The girl rolls her eyes, but looks a bit concerned.
"Like I said, you're in the middle of a lucid dream. I have no clue what's going on, so fill me in here. Did you see or do anything strange? What year is it? Do people still beleive that science holds all the answers?"
She almost seems a bit impatient, but you realize that if she's been here for god-knows how long...if you were the only sentient being around, having someone to talk to would be something you'd really want.

Skye blinked and looked at her, confused. "Well, I'm sorry, but if this is a lucid dream then why would I be questioned like this? I haven't done anything... and I haven't met anyone else, so I don't know what they believe." She feels a little sorry for whoever this is, and a little freaked out that she's even here right now. "Like I said, I was just playing my flute last night, went to sleep, and then woke up here."
"Okay, this is getting weird...I want to get to the bottom of this. hold still please." Before you can react, this girl grabs your wrist and closes her eyes. You don't feel anything so there's no reason to stop her as you reminisce about everything that happened the last day. Eventually she opens her eyes.
"Huh...well, that's weird. I really don't know what to do about this...but since we're both here, I assume that has to mean something...
Well Skye, I guess I have one thing to ask: Can you keep a secret?"
It occurs to you that you never gave the girl your name, and she didn't give you hers either. But right now it seems like she may have some kind of answers to your problem.
