03 psymunn42 :: "Beast Bomber"
Beast Within / Nihil Spellbomb
01: 2-2 MMQ can’t win until threats are removed (BW races since Spellbomb exiles Cryptic if Macabre is on board). BW ties if there’s 0-2 tokens (exile BW, if Spellbomb draws BW, resp Cryptic bounce token draw, Cryptic exiled, exile Spellbomb, BW, exile BW, infinite chumps). MMQ can go for EOT bounce Spellbomb to exile BW freely, so BW isn’t cast. I'm putting this as a draw (but see below)
02: 3-3 BW hits Exarch and exiles on the play; on the draw, upkeep Exarch to stop BW mana wins
03: X
04: 6-0 BW hits Assault and exiles
05: 2-2 a t5 BW has two lands + Spellbomb, Stingscourger bounces. Can’t Sojourners exile since Spellbomb draws while exiling. No echo, and if Spellbomb exiles, Sojourner cycles to force a draw (Stingscourger bounce Beast/nothing, EOT BW, if swing then chump, else no echo, and repeat). If no exile, cycle repeats (every two turns since land + BW). Stingscourger in play can’t bounce, and Sojourners in play trades + exiled. Draw.
06: 6-0 exile Invigorate to slow down Inky
07: 6-0 exile Pox, draw cards
08: 6-0 once Sojourners cycles to try and exile BW, Spellbomb exiles and it’s over
09: 6-0 exile Spectral and outrace
10: 6-0 BW races and Spellbomb prevents Charm to exile
11:
12: 2-2 BW gets Demonfire’d, Demonfire gets Spellbomb’d, Spellbomb gets Macabre’d. Macabre chumps the Beast and it’s a tie. If Demonfire isn’t exiled, it trades 1 for 1 until it hits face for 20
13: 6-0 BW can trade with Tiger, Spellbomb mops up
for 01 (MMQ), I’m not sure if the BW every two turns (keeping up Spellbomb) means that Macabre can outrace. I didn’t do 11 because counting sorry.
vs. 01 Madmanquail: Beast token makes a threat, Spellbomb is better GY hate htoh? 6-0?
i think cryptic is really good here.
psymunn cant make a token on turn 3 because then macabre gets beast within. then a single cryptic bounces the one token for the draw
if psymunn waits, mmq has mana for cyptic before p redraws beast. bouncing spellbomb lets macabre get beast within for the same result.
should be 2-2
vs. 05 tomsloger: Nihil Spellbomb is equal GY hate, Beast tokens are better threat. 6-0
beast is a better threat, but i can just block with stingscourger. replaying it and bouncing a token keeps you from ever having multiple tokens. and whoever tries to remove graveyard loses that battle so neither of us ever do.
this one is 2-2 as well.
vs. 08 nerdyjoe: bluh. I think psy just makes beasts on 4+5 and swings? 6-0
i am extremely uncertain on this one. similar to mmq matchup, bouncing spellbomb can lead to some good things. unfortunately, i have no real idea if theres a good time to do it.
hardcasting wave to remove some beast tokens may be able to let joe live long enough to get to cycling mana, but there are so many decision trees.
i think i agree with yarn and whamme, so i'll remove the question mark. but i wouldnt be shocked if this was wrong
vs. 09 snurfy8: graveyard hate trumps none.
p can remove snurfy's cards after one use, but those single uses are pretty good.
snurfy on the play:
s3 procession. psymunn removes.
p3 replay spellbomb
s4 swing 3. 20-17
p4 land #4
s5 swing 3. 20-14. eot destroy land to make token. lands (3)
p5 draw land (4). attack with beast. meets path to exile. remove path, redraw beast.
s6 swing 3. 20-11. eot make token. lands (3)
p6 redraw beast. swing 3. 17-11
s7 swing 3. 17-8. eot make token (2). lands (2)
p7 redraw beast. swing 6. 11-8.
s8 swing 3. 11-5. can't replay beast due to shortness of land.
p8 draw land (3) swing 6. 5-5
s9 can't quite win the race. really close, but this is 6-0 for psymunn like whamme said.
edit:
12: 2-2 BW gets Demonfire’d, Demonfire gets Spellbomb’d, Spellbomb gets Macabre’d. Macabre chumps the Beast and it’s a tie. If Demonfire isn’t exiled, it trades 1 for 1 until it hits face for 20
agree with some combination of this and heinsun's original breakdown. 2-2
3 | 2 3 X 6 2 6 6 6 6 6 0 2 6 |
changes:
1v5 we both say its too complicated. i believe us. i guess i'll come back.
edit: i had a couple of things written out. they all led to whoever does something loses. we draw.
1v11 pretty sure this is a 2-2.
if notgreat plays wurmcalling, command counters it and breaks off a series of events that leads to mmq winning.
but if notgreat never does anything, neither can mmq.
1v13 i assume cryptic wins out eventually. tapping down tiger, countering verdict, drawing macabre from library or bouncing it when needed. gotta be 6-0
7v8 listed 3-6
should be 3-3. notgreat missed redrawing pox instead of land even though wildfire cant play it yet.
8v9 listed 6-2. snurfy doesnt list, but agree with njoe. 6-0
8v10 listed 0-0 this is 0-6. yarn seems to say he wins but lists it as a loss in scoring.
11v13 definitely 6-0. too many tokens for even verdict and chump blocking to deal with.
still disputed:
1v12 listed 2-6 both make good points. not ready to make a call
see below.
I don't get how Verdict is too slow.
On your 2nd turn you hit me for 5 poison.
After that, though, I get my two swamps and can easily verdict you in response to any attack.
In fact, I never bother casting the Tiger.
If you swing, I verdict you.
If you don't, well.. I still verdict you eot.
In the end, I should have taken 5 poison, and you take 20 verdicts.
6-0 in my favor (Or am I missing something?)
______
13v07 : Wildfire393
Pox can't get me to 1 or less cards, ever. I can always draw up to 3 before the pox hits, which means I never get hit by Affliction. In fact, I'm almost positive he can never actually win against any deck, and can at best score a 2. Assuming he waits until he can Pox consecutive to enhance the discard to try and put them in range, we see this:
7->4. Draw. 5->3. Draw. 4->2. Draw. 3->2. Repeat 3->2 ad infinity.
Pox loses life equally, and since he can't force anyone to lose cards down to where Affliction hits, all his opponent has to do is not play a card. If his opponent holds back, he can at best cast pox enough to suicide a tie.
With this in account, I should be able to win.
If he goes for Pox, I wait until we both go to 1 and Verdict him for a win.
If he doesn't go to pox, I wait until I'm at 7-8 cards and verdict him.
Rinse repeat the Pox/No-Pox until he dies one way or the other.
6-0
And I'm pretty sure his other 6s and 3s should be rechecked.
They should, at best, be 2s and 1s.
______
Everything else of mine looks right.
I did poorly, but I just threw something out there to see what'd stick.
I expected a lot more Vindicate and Arcane Denial.
I mean seriously.. no one ran Arcane Denial?
Should have just done that myself lol
Also in your defense, I was very late looking at my results
You probably considered me playing Tiger first turn.
As for the round.. I thought we'd see at least a couple of decks with Fatigue.
I couldn't find a good card to use as a wincon to play it myself.
But still.. the turn 2 lock was strong enough I made sure to play around it.
vs 01: I think it's 2-2, but I'm not certain.
vs 02: I die 0-6
vs 03: Easy crush 6-0
vs 04: I die 0-6
vs 05: Stingscourger holds me off for a while but I win in the end 6-0
vs 06: Exile the Invigorate if it's cast, play a 2/2 flier on T3 and I can't lose. 6-0
vs 07: Exile the pox, easy crush. 6-0
vs 08: I think it's 6-0. See below.
vs 09: Exile the cards once they're cast and make 2/2 tokens starting turn 3. I easily win the race. 6-0 <<DISPUTED>>
vs 10: Complicated. See below.<<DISPUTED>>
vs 12: Buyback tokens outrace Demonfire for 20 (and I exile Demonfire if done for less) 6-0
vs 13: I make 2/2 tokens, exile the Verdict once it's cast, and crush. 6-0
08 expanded:
In the long run you would win from Resounding Wave, but I can start making buyback tokens T5 and you can't start bouncing before T11 (since you need to keep up Grixis Sojourners' cycling or else I exile your card and if you cast it normally you stop getting lands and then eventually I start making 2 tokens per turn) and so I'm pretty sure I win the race.
10 expanded:
I can make non-buyback tokens too. While you do get to then Ebony Charm it, Faerie Macabre can exile the Ebony Charm in response. If you ever Ebony Charm before I may a non-buyback token, I can exile it, then start making really big guys. Faerie Macabre also works as a very good blocker of your 1/1 tokens. As such this is a really complicated matchup. Here's what I think is the optimal play, but I dunno.
My play:
Swamp | Swamp
Swamp | Swamp, Bitterblossom
Forest | Swamp 1f (20/19)
Forest | Swamp 2f (19/18)
Forest, 1/1 | Swamp 3f (17/17)
Forest, 2/2 | Swamp 4f (14/15)
Forest, 3/3 | Swamp 5f (10/11)
Play Macabre, 4/4 nonbuyback->Ebony Charm exiles| redraw, drain, 5f (5/5)
From here if you block then you don't have enough for the kill and if you don't block then I win next turn.
Which naturally puts my week score down and psymunn wins the week alone!
Actually, my old scoreline put me just 6 points behind psymunn- so right now we're tied.
If my deck 10 dispute goes through I'll actually win the week alone. We'll see...
edit: Whoops, somehow thought you were deck 9. I'm almost 100% certain of that matchup, so it looks like I'm going to be the winner barring any other scoring changes.
best guess:
vs. 01 Madmanquail: Beast token makes a threat, Spellbomb is better GY hate htoh? 6-0?
