Magus only changes subtypes. It does nothing to affect the other types of the card. It would need to say something along the lines of "Nonbasic lands are land Mountains."
In the MTG link, Condor is a high-level judge. I've rarely seen Condor say something incorrectly about the rules.
I forgot to add a deck from WOTC. I've added it to the spreadsheet. Not something that's gonna happen again since I've stopped doing things over there. Which reminds me, I have a lot of thread updating to do.
Round 11
Due 1/14 @ 5pm PST. If the format is looking too stagnant (I don't think it is, yet), we can start banning some things. The only really consistent things I've seen of late are Mayor of Avabruck and Leyline of the Meek decks, and neither have seen format warping.
I really like how the meta is right now, it feels like it's cycling naturally. There are a few very powerful decks around, but nothing so good that it'll do well every single week or that it's not worth playing anything else. I definitely wouldn't like to see anything banned as it is.
1v2: On the draw, Mayor flips on your second turn and the first wolf comes online before I can really mount a defense. On the play, Mayor doesn't flip until my third turn, at which point both Overseers are out. Inkmoth gets in for the win. (3-3)
1v3: I just grow bigger than you can handle. (6-0)
1v4: I think I can win on the play. Gotta work out the decision trees.
Now comes the major decision tree. Let's start with you killing an Overseer, since that buys you time to kill off a poisoner later.
Me: Animate Nexus, in response, Beast an Overseer, in response activate that Overseer (the other becomes 3/3), get 3/3 token. Attack with Inkmoth, activate Overseer (4/4 Overseer, 2/2 Inkmoth). (20/20.2p)/You: upkeep activate Elixir (20/25.2p), draw Beast
Me: Animate Nexus, activate Overseer (3/3 Nexus, 5/5 Overseer), attack with Nexus and token (20/22.5p)/You: draw Elixir
Me: Animate Nexus, attack with Overseer, token, and Nexus, Nexus gets Beasted, get second 3/3 token. (20/14)/You: Play and activate Elixir (20/19)
Me: Attack with two tokens and Overseer (20/8)/You: Play Elixir
You lose that route. If instead you go after a Nexus, the actual damage just comes in faster.
I think I might win on the play too, but I'm not ready to calculate that yet. (?-?)
1v5: Mirage handles one Nexus, but not the other, nor neither Overseer. (6-0)
vs. 1 Rush_Clasic: On the play, I'm fast enough to overwhelm. Not so on the draw. 3-3
vs. 3 NemataGG: I counter the Rancor. 6-0
vs. 4 tomsloger: I counter the Elixir. 6-0
vs. 5 Subtle_Relevance: Mayor beats Inky. 6-0
vs. 6 keyboardmash: Mayor + Dismember beats Mayor. 0-6
vs. 7 Sand_Crab: Mayor + 2/2 still ties with Mayor. 2-2
you on the play:
r1 nexus
t1 citadel, elixir
r2 nexus, overseer
t2 turf
r3 overseer #2. tap first one for counters (both 2/2)
t3 citadel
r4 on your turn, beast a nexus in response to animating it. tap both overseers for counters (both 4/4)
t4 activate elixir on upkeep. redraw bw. 25-20
r5 attack with token, make both overseers bigger (6/6s). 22-20
t5 redraw elixir
r6 attack with everything. beast one overseer. take 9. 13-20
t6 cast elixir. activate. 18-20
r7 attack with everything. take 12. 6-20
t7 redraw... elixir. yup, you win when youre on the play.
when i play first, however...
t1 citadel, elixir
r1 nexus
t2 turf
r2 nexus, overseer
t3 citadel
r3 beast within a nexus on your upkeep.
you cant cast second overseer.
im pretty confident this is 3-3
updated grid.
edit:
did some more matchups.
1v5 6-0 nexus' trade. 1 is left with overseers
1v7 3-3. basically the same as 1v2
3v5 0-6 misstep birds
3v6 0-6 dismember birds
5v6 0-6 mirage can take out reborn before kbm can cast mayor. but that means dismember takes out inkmoth if its ever animate and mutavault wins.
5v7 0-6 s_r's control doesnt do anything. mayor wins
6v7 6-0 dismember stops mayor, giving mayor enough time to win.
grid updated for all.
1v6 and 3v7 need a turn by turn breakdown. i'll do it later if neither of y'all do
1 on the play:
1: Inkmoth
6: Llanowar Reborn
1: Inkmoth, Overseer
6: Mutavault, Dismember (20-16)
1: Overseer
6: Mayor
1: Activate an Inkmoth, swing for 2 infect (20-16{2})
6: Flip Mayor on upkeep, swing for 7 (13-16{2})
1: Activate an Inkmoth, swing for 3 infect (13-16{5})
6: Swing for 10 (3-16{5})
1: Activate an Inkmoth, swing for 4 infect (3-16{9})
6: Swing for 13, win.
This looks correct to me, but I may have made some mistakes. If it's right then it's 6-0 to me.
A little under 24 hours to submit. If I'm not able to keep up with a simple weekly update, I might end this soon. I hate being the sort of host that doesn't keep things running tight and on schedule.
I didn't receive many submissions, so I'm extending the deadline at least 24 hours, maybe more. If none come in, I'll close up shop and call it a good run.
That's disappointing, I really enjoyed it while it lasted. I don't blame you if there just wasn't enough interest though.
I feel like it was inconsistent updating more than a waning interest, though every vanilla format I've ever participated in has gone this route sooner or later. I'll try something else when I get back into the swing of things. December/January sort of killed my spare time.
One idea I've seen in the past was a continuous ban Vintage format where everything is legal until it gets into the top X decks, then the cards in said deck are banned. The format is always new and the list just gets HUGE. Pretty fun.
with a magus in play, great furnace is a mountain, which is not an artifact
Really? Googling it says otherwise...

I was about ready to advocate for changes, but I think it's fine for now.

Thanks everyone for participating in this. I had fun hosting it. I'll probably try something again when I have more time for consistent updates.
...but did I win?
