They do, yeah, I'm pretty sure. 601.2b says you announce whether you will be paying a buyback cost before you choose X, but you definitely under no circumstances do any paying of that cost, or even determining what it is, until well after 601.2b.
(I've left my result vs yarn as zero, but I don't understand the shortcut rules well enough to work out if that's correct. If we both have infinite counterspells, can he resolve Blighted Agent or not? For bonus points, give reasons, because I'd like to understand that stuff better!)
Edit: Actually, Buyback doesn't work that way - ignore by burblings!

Thanks for the help folks!
Also, with next week, how are we treating creatures like Hex Parasite that have X in the cost for their activated abilities?
Also note that creatures only become planeswalkers on the battlefield (It doesn't say 'creature cards'). If they have an activated ability that works outside the battlefield, they'll use its normal cost.
Alright, let's see how many wins esper charm gets me this week. I noticed angel's grace and pacts this week but completely missed dark ritual. That might explain why my deck is so strange. I think if I noticed dark ritual I would have submitted Thalia over peacekeeper.
4 Reyemile : pacts of eot Pact of Negation / Pact of the Titan / Sundial of the Infinite
Ok, so, on turn 1 I play the rack, and on turn 3 I play peacekeeper. But you played sundial on turn 2, and so you can counter it and then end your turn on your upkeep on turn 3.
0-6
5 yarn : agent of negation Angel's Grace / Blighted Agent / Pact of Negation
Can I sneak in esper charm anywhere between these buyback triggers? I don't think so. When I submitted I thought that worked for some reason.
0-6
Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.
benbuzz v cruelshy as a 3-3
whoever plays first wins on cruelshy's turn 10.
21 damage from demonfire when cruelshy is on the play, at 2 life.
when benbuzz is on the play, affliction takes out cruelshy the upkeep before the lethal fire.
2v3 : on the play, knoboddi can combo off on turn 2. and itb only has annhilator 2, so can sac lands and leave helix pinncacle to win. on the draw, not so much. 3-3
2v4 : whoever gets to turn 2 first wins. 3-3
2v10 : 2 waits to go off with dispel back up. 10 can counter pinnacle on the play. 3-3
3v4 : wow, another 3-3. itb annhilates on the play. on the draw, reyemile can sacrifice giant tokens.
3v10 : seriously? 3-3 again. 10 can only counter on the play.
4v10 : pacs of negation counters pact of negation targetting sundial. but 4 cant win through angels grace. 2-2
so there were 7 missing matchups and 6 were 3-3 and one 2-2.
that grid is easy to finish...
anyone see anything wrong?
edit: if not, congratulations yarn on the week and mogg on the month.
