Hey everyone, sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has ever thought about running (or previously ran) a game of forum resistance?
For those unaware, The Resistance is a game of deception and deduction similar to mafia. The main difference is that players are never eliminated, so everyone gets to play for the entire game (which lasts a predetermined number of rounds). Given mafia's success on this and many other forums, I was curious as to whether a game of The Resistance had ever been attempted, or if there would be interest in starting one.

"In the beginning, MTG Salvation switched to a new forum format.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
I think it would be something the Mods would have to decide, but perhaps you can fill the rest of us in on what the game is like? That might help decide if they think it is similar enough to be run here, or if the mods think it is better to move this discussion and any Resistance games over to Other Forum Games.
"Other Forum Games" might be a better place for this, though the game does run similarly to mafia.
In a basic game, each player is secretly assigned to be a loyal member of the Resistance, or a Spy. (Like in mafia, the spies know who's on their team). The game takes place over 5 rounds. The objective for the Resistance is to completely 3 of the 5 missions successfully, while the spies will attempt to sabotage 3 missions.
Each round, one player is designated the leader, and chooses a certain number of other players to go on the mission. The group then publicly votes to accept or reject the team. If the team is rejected, leadership is handed off to the next player. If the team is accepted, the chosen team members then secretly vote for the mission to succeed or fail. (It only takes one failure vote to fail the mission). Using voting patterns, its up for players to determine who's loyal and who's a spy.

Interesting! This certainly bears similarities to Mafia (like an informed minority battling an uninformed majority) but it would be more appropriate in Other Forum Games. We'll likely be moving it there.
Hopefully you find more success than Elect the Executioner did.

Can't help but agree that this would probably be more successful in the Mafia forum - and definitely more useful, in that it solves a lot of game-design issues with Mafia, and might be eye-opening for a lot of people there.
