Sign-up flavor (new flavor will be included with Day start):
Flung from the Blind Eternities, Tamiyo found herself thrown into a densely covered jungle. She was in an awkward position of being unsure of her surroundings - this is the plane that she had intended to visit, but from the looks of it, she wasn't anywhere near settled territory. No sooner than she arrived, she was onset by a panther. Taking a brief moment to collect herself, she sent a crippling chill through the creature and took off into the forest. With the moon to light her way, she set off for her intended location. The information she had gathered on Ravnica indicated that the world was littered with small shamanic villages living almost completely independently of one another. There were no reports of war between the villages, but from what intel she had gained, villages were dying out with no survivors, and despite the cultural and economic isolation of each village, they all seemed to worship the same two gods: Korial, the Visage of Enlightenment and Arkharon, the Visage of Death.
This was definitely something worth further investigation - why would a plane with this level of technology have exactly two gods to worship? Was there no need to seek guidance or support for any other aspect of life? Was some sinister force at work, or was there something unique to the denizens of this plane?
Rules and stuff:
Deathspeaker Mafia is a game designed for 12 players. It was reviewed (and fixed) by AsianInvasion, Prophylaxis, and Iso (and also Zionite, who was left out before accidentally).
Borrowed and modified slightly from Arnnaria, whose rules seemed succinct and positive, plus supplements taken from Megiddo's rules.
1. This is about having a fun game experience. Please keep the personal attacks and flaming to a minimum. If I feel that a player is violating the spirit of friendly competition they will receive one warning. If the problem persists, a modkill is a possibility.
2. All MTG Salvation and Mafia Forum rules apply in this game. If you are not familiar with said rules, please read up on them.
3. Please do not discuss this game in any way, shape, or form outside the legal avenues for this game. There will be a spectator chat for those who wish to spectate or have died in the game. To protect the integrity of the game, the spectator chat will not have any hidden information privy to those following the game.
4. Please do not quote Role PMs except the parts I have given permission that players may claim. Please do not quote any other PMs that may occur between me (as a host) and you (as a player). If you have any questions about this, please ask rather than risk a modkill!
5. Bold your voting and unvoting. Please unvote before you make a new vote.
6. Lynches require a majority. After a player has hit the lynch threshold, no more votes or unvotes will be counted. After a player has been lynched there will be a lynch scene and the game will progress into night. There will be no discussion in the thread allowed during night. Once you are dead, you may no longer post in the game; this includes a "bah" post of any kind.
7. Editing or deleting a post will be grounds for a modkill. No exceptions.
8. If you have not posted for 72 hours, you will be prodded if you have not given the thread a "V/LA status" (Vacation / Limited Access) update. On the third prod you will be forcibly replaced.
9. In the interest in keeping a game moving, deadlines may be posted at any time during the Day. If the game hits a deadline without a lynch, the player with the most votes will be lynched. If two or more players are tied for the most votes, the day will end with a No Lynch.
10. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!
11. Please title all game action-related PMs with "Deathspeaker Mafia" or similar and include the current Phase. If it's just a question, don't worry about anything like that.
12. Please do not use the forum's "thanking" feature to "thank" any other player's post. You may thank my posts as much as you like, however.
13. Have fun! NO EXCEPTIONS
Borrowed from Megiddo:
1. Each Day phase will have a deadline. Deadlines for each game Day will be equal to 2 times the number of living players that Day, with a minimum length of 7 days.
2. Night phases will last 72 hours until half of the players are dead, at which point they will be shortened to 48 hours. Toward the end of the game, Nights may move more quickly than this depending on how swiftly actions are given to me.
3. During the game, there are up to three deadline extensions available. These extensions may be requested by the players at any time in the thread, and may be granted at my sole discretion. Don't be mad if I say no.
The options are as follows:
A: 24 hours per player OR 7 days, whichever is shorter. Granted on Day Three. B: 72 hours
C: 24 hours
Extension Rules:
- Once a particular extension is used, it cannot be used again that same game.
- Any number of extensions can be used in the same game Day.
- If the players do not specify which extension they wish to use (or if there is no consensus on which one to use), I will pick the remaining option highest up on the list.
- Extensions are appended to the deadline time. There's no need to strategically time when the request is made.
- At least two players must request an extension for it to be considered.
Each player begins the game as vanilla, and unlocks an ability when he or she dies.
This game is full-reveal (Note: was previously incorrectly listed as limited-reveal). When a player dies, their name, alignment, and job/role in the village will be revealed, as well as their ability.
Flavor game at your own risk.
I will not be accepting hydras for this game.
Unless specifically noted, all players have the ability to vote.
The town win condition is: Purge the town of all the heretics.
The scum win condition is: Gain control of the town by equaling the number of innocent villagers.
Despite this game having original flavor, I am not great at writing flavor, so bear with me.

Three nights later, Tamiyo had finally arrived at a populated camp. Not wanting to startle the villagers, she cast a glamer to shield herself from prying eyes. There appeared to be twelve individuals worshiping a funeral pyre and praising their ancestors for their friend's opportunity to ascend. As the fire burned, she noticed a faint glimmer permeate the air, as though some magic was being released. All twelve of the villagers immediately turned towards her, suddenly aware of her presence. Their affect appeared unsettled, yet not hostile, as though they had known that she meant them no harm. She hesitantly stepped into the clearing around the pyre. She tried to recast her glamer spell, but found herself unable to conjure the mana to do so.
"What have you done!" one of the villagers exclaimed.
"I do not understand. I am here to see what is causing the villages of this region to die out. How did you know I was watching you?"
"Our village was to be one that undid the region's dependence on our ancestors! We sacrificed three of our strongest potentials to ensure our safety, but your presence has undone all of it! We must now rely on the ancient ways to ensure our safety, and you must bear witness."
Unsure of how to respond, Tamiyo tacitly accepted the request for assistance, hoping to glean any additional information she could on the strange occurrences in the region in the process.
AsianInvasion, Iso, and Prophylaxis have died. AsianInvasion was Almuk, village alchemist, Town Mass Deathbinder. Iso was Darium, village oracle, Town Mass Deathrolecop. Prophylaxis was Bragia, village witch, Town Mass Deathcop.
Cythare is Tamiyo, Neutral Planeswalker Extraordinaire! She has no abilities except to bear witness. She can't vote, can't be voted, and can't win. She also isn't a great writer. It's a good thing she's so great at science!
It is now Day 1. With 12 alive, it is 7 to lynch. The day will end at 11:00 PM EST on Saturday, February 7.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
Since we have some newcomers to the game/site, it may or may not be a good idea for those of us with knowledge to share our impressions of the other players in the game. Alternately, it may just be a fun, illuminating surprise to let people find out. Wouldn't want to spoil some of the surprises/reactions.
I will say that Dechs is one of the most fantastic new scum-alignment players I've seen in a very long while. So, clearly, we need to preemptively kill him.

Hope that helps you.
I have to say, that because of this, I don't put a lot of stock into meta reads and the like. I know you are all a tight nit group here on MTGS, but from what I have seen, the meta reads have just gotten people in trouble versus actually helping scum hunt.
I think meta reads are useful but not definitive. Like, if I know a player is usually aggressive, and I see them being very cautious suddenly, that's worth further investigation. It's not proof that they're scum but it gives a place to start. And meta information can help tip the balance with borderline reads.

Are you calling me scum, Archmage, because I moved from the granite state across the river? I am sorry I am a Vermonter now, but that's no reason to be labeling me scummy...

The purpose is to simply move the game along. We are still not really accomplishing much, as the game just began. Archmage called me scummy along with Seppel. I reacted with a lame vote, admittedly a terribly lame vote. If it makes you feel better, I will gladly unvote, as it is still awful early for me to have any REAL scum reads.

Just trying to interact and get some discussion rolling. But I don't believe we have even had everyone post yet.

Just my opinion though....
Legit. Meta gets misused often: people saying they saw person do X in game Y therefore scum, with no consideration of whether correlation = causation.
But, it's a good lens to use to adjust reads. For instance, if someone's always lurky, you can cross that off your list of things to consider unusual coming from them. Or if somebody is an excellent scum player, you know that you may not be able to use behavioral reads to clear them with as much confidence as you would a an average scum player.
Actually I just noticed something about role PMs and I rescind my massclaim suggestion.
So you're the hitman?
Har har. No. I was about to post my full role name, then I realized that it would have been pretty easy to conjecture what my dead ability was, so I decided that would be a bad idea.
Maybe it's a good idea?
Also even if I was, there's never any reason to fear a hitman, since it's so easy to get them out of the game, and they might have to take a scum with them. (In fact, I was a hitman last game, and both of my targets were scum.)
Oh my god I JUST NOTICED there's something so different about town role PMs in this game that the first person to claim their full rolename gets autotown status. I will then verify it and I will be autotown as well.

My reasoning is the same as yours, you literally just beat me to it. I had the same reaction you did when I read his post and a stronger reaction when I saw the second one where he was being a bully.
For what it's worth, that kind of pushing for partial claims is what I did as scum in the game Az linked you to. It sure made me look town, and it "didn't hurt" the town to reveal any of that information.

I would however like to know everyone's character name.
In a game with original flavor, that can't hurt at all.
Right?

Well, if it actually worked that way.
But it doesn't,
And I am not scum. So I am forced to do this.
Vote Archmage
How's that for an OMGUS

Just trying to interact and get some discussion rolling. But I don't believe we have even had everyone post yet.
Like Arianrhod and Plowshares....

Zeus damn it that Lego mafia game was embarrassing.

Killjoy seriously like 9 out of the past 10 games could have been town wins with a D1MC. The only exception is every Iso game ever.
That's how you have to deal with AE. He deflects, so you have to deflect right back at him to get anywhere.
Har har.
Soon.
Does anyone else have aa role pm to compare to a town role pm to check for differences?
This vote gives me the shivers. "Sealed it"? That's pretty strong for post 32.
KJ's language use towards Seppel seems atypically agressive.
@KJ: did you like Hunt's answer to your question?
Unvote, vote Dechs

Might as well unvote, vote Huntzilla too then. I agree.
What do you think of Seppel?
Dechs: what's YOUR reasoning for voting Seppel? So far all you've really done is barn me. I'm thinking that might be all you're doing.
For what it's worth, that kind of pushing for partial claims is what I did as scum in the game Az linked you to. It sure made me look town, and it "didn't hurt" the town to reveal any of that information.
