Once a bustling community of over 10,000 citizens, the city itself is a palace. The walls surrounding its borders are impenetrable, and for over 2,000 years its people enjoyed a wondrous quality of life filled with thriving commerce and culture.
But then came the Dark Arts. It is unknown who first brought this brand of magic to the region, but what is profoundly understood is the dire effect it had on Leá Monde. Wars were waged between various religious sects. Trade and political alliances crumbled. Inevitable destruction from within slowly crept up, culminating in a massive earthquake some years ago that wiped out the city's population and wrecked many of its magnificent buildings, markets and churches.
Now, a new chapter shall open in the city's history. The streets of Leá Monde lie quiet during the day, but teem with undead at night. Hidden away within the city are ancient Grimoires, sources of magic that grant their wielders immense power. Some are holy in nature, others pure evil.
Sydney Losstarot, leader of the Müllenkamp cult, has fled the Greylands for the ancient city. With him are his second in command, John Hardin, and the young boy Joshua who was taken from the Duke's manor. Today, many souls will converge there as they follow his trail. None know his intent, but all intend to learn.
The Riskbreaker, Ashley Riot, and his partner Callo Merlose... sent by LeSait and Heldricht of the VKP leadership to covertly end the siege on the manor... are in pursuit.
Romeo Guildenstern leads a collection of soldiers from the Crimson Blades in the pursuit of justice. Among them are Lady Samantha, his confidant and lover, the pious brothers Father Grissom and Father Duane, and the unrelenting Sir Tieger and his companion Lady Neesa.
Also on route to Leá Monde is a rogue Riskbreaker by the name of Rosencrantz, hired in secret by Duke Bardorba himself to retrieve Joshua and bring him to safety, and to investigate the goings on within the city.
They all have a purpose. The pieces are on the board and the game has commenced, but all is not as it seems. The Dark Arts are all-encompassing and powerful, and their call draws out a wicked lust in the men they choose to claim as disciples. There is far more at stake in the ancient city than anyone could fathom, and the intentions of a few could have far-reaching sinister consequences for the many.
1. Absolutely no PM quoting. Players may directly claim the following items:
- Character name
- Role name
- Alignment
- Class
Flavor paraphrasing is allowed, but do not quote or paraphrase your character's flavor quote.
2. Do not edit or delete posts. Also, do not use the "Thank/Like" feature.
3. Players are forbidden from communicating with anyone about the game outside of this thread until the game has ended, unless specifically granted permission by the moderator.
- Violations of the first three rules will result in a modkill without warning.
4. If a player is modkilled, the day will end as though they had been lynched, so consider the damage you will potentially do to your team before disregarding the rules.
5. Do not discuss PM formatting or timestamps on any messages sent from the moderator.
6. Please bold all votes and unvotes. You are required to unvote to move your vote. Also, please place unvotes and votes on separate lines.
7. Please bold any mod requests.
8. Do not discuss ongoing games.
9. Players are forbidden from communicating in the thread after their death.
10. Prods will be issued after 72 hours of inactivity. After one prod, you will have 48 hours to post or be replaced. Upon a second prod, that period will be reduced to 24 hours. Forced replacement will occur upon a third prod. Please issue V/LA announcements in the thread if you are going to be away for an extended period of time. I will maintain a list of absences in the first post.
11. Treat each other respectfully, follow the forum's rules for general conduct, and have fun!
Specific Gameplay Rules:
1. All players may vote.
2. No roles are permitted to self-target.
3. Every player begins the game as a vanilla and can unlock their role by finding their Grimoire, which are scattered among the ten locations listed below. Each player has exactly one corresponding Grimoire.
4. Once during day, each player may submit the name of a location via PM. You will move to that location, where you will remain until submitting a new location at a later time. While there, you will search for your Grimoire. You may submit your choice of location at any time, including Twilight. Note that no individual location is guaranteed to contain any Grimoires, and at least one location contains multiples.
5. Whenever a player searches a location, they will receive a results PM within a short frame of time. If a location contains any Grimoires that do not match that player's character, they will learn there is something to be found there but not what it is or how many there are. If a location contains that player's Grimoire, they will take it and there may or may not still be Grimoires within that location. If a location contains no Grimoires at the time of the search, the player will be notified of this.
6. Players may continue to search locations after finding their Grimoire. Players may also choose to re-search their current location rather than changing locations.
7. If a majority of players vote No Lynch on a given Day, the game will move to Night.
8. Twilight will last a minimum of 3 hours and maximum of 9, depending on when a lynch threshold is met.
9. Upon death, all characters' role PMs will be revealed. Grimoire PMs detailing roles will only be revealed if the player's role has been unlocked.
10. Night will last 72 hours until there are less than 6 players alive, where it will shorten to 48 hours.
11. Each Day will have a strict deadline of 2 days X the number of living players. Thus, D1 will have a deadline of 24 days. I will consider extensions in the event of a replacement within 48 hours of a deadline. If a majority has not been declared before a deadline expires, the player with the highest vote total will be lynched. A tie will result in a no lynch.
Order of operations:
1. Immunities
2. Actions that affect or modify another player's actions
3. Roleblocking actions
4. Protective actions
5. Killing actions
6. Investigations
7. Anything else
Sample town role PM:
Prophylaxis, welcome to Vagrant Story Mafia!
You are Random Soldier
"Crunch... crunch... crunch..."
You have spent the past few years in the lower ranks of the Order of the Crimson Blades. The mission to Leá Monde was the first real combat orders you had seen since you were accepted. You believed that you were going to come, conquer, and be renowed a hero. Unfortunately, the wyvern currently munching on your remains had conflicting plans.
Alignment: Town Class: [Classified] Role: Locked
Your win condition is to eliminate all members of the Mafia.
To unlock your role, you must search the city of Leá Monde for your Grimoire. You may move to a new location each Day phase, and you may move at any time (including Twilight). You will search that location upon arrival. Based upon VKP intelligence data, you have ascertained that your Grimoire is [Classified].
Abandoned Mines:
Leá Monde's age of prosperity was in no small part a product of the endless toiling of miners who went deep underground to extract ores and minerals from the rich tunnels beneath the city. Found hidden within the mines is an area known only as the Tomb of the Reborn, where an unusual and more sinister breed of arcane glyphs and carvings are found. This may have been a clandestine meeting place for those who introduced the Dark Arts that eventually destroyed the city from within.
Catacombs:
The most dangerous thing about this series of underground tunnels and crypts is not the constant threat of caving ceilings or collapsing pillars... it is the festering hordes of undead roaming within. Would-be treasure hunters would be advised to raid the stores at the Work of Art workshop, where wood and leather items were crafted for those poor souls who once stood guard over this repository.
City Walls:
These massive walls surround Leá Monde on all sides, functionally turning the city into a giant fortress. For centuries, these walls kept the city safe from outside enemies and provided quick transit for defending forces to move from one area of the city to the next. In the eastern section, there is a strange door that has long been sealed off by the Blood-Sin sigil.
Great Cathedral:
The largest holy facility in Leá Monde, standing directly at the center of the city. As a show of power, it was erected by the Iocus Priesthood overtop the remains of the Temple of Kiltia. The interior of the cathedral has been gutted by decay and the city's frequent earthquakes. In many areas the floor has caved in, creating chasms that make exploration a dangerous venture.
Sanctum:
This underground ruin was once a holy sanctuary for the Priests of St. Iocus, serving as both a library and place of worship. The river of Leá Monde flows through a section known as the Advent Ground, and the sound of rushing water can be heard throughout the wrecked marble passageways of this once hallowed structure.
Snowfly Forest:
The natives of Leá Monde generally avoided this dense forest. It is so infested by its namesake white bugs that visibility is severely limited, and many who entered were lost for days... if not longer. The rivers of the city flow throughout this woodland, and provide the only real waypoints for weary adventurers trying to maintain a sense of direction. In a remote area of the forest, there is a small keep that has been sealed shut with the Blood-Sin sigil.
Temple of Kiltia:
A giant structure near the Great Cathedral, this temple served as a home and place of worship and meditation for the priestesses of the Kiltia sect, until they were purged from Leá Monde by the Priests of St. Iocus. The walls are adorned with glyphs and symbols that have accumulated from centuries of ancient rites.
The Keep:
Little is known about this massive fortress. Some believe it was once a training ground for the use of the Dark Arts, as its walls are littered with the carvings of arcane glyphs and symbols. Others believe it was once a military facility as it also houses Keane's Crafts, a workshop where experienced smiths used materials such as bronze and hagane to craft weapons and armor for the city's soldiers.
Town Center:
Geographically divided into east, west, north and south sectors by Leá Monde's series of rivers and waterways, the Town Center is the area where most inhabitants of the city lived, dined, shopped and socialized. Among the decaying houses and gardens are several Workshops where citizens could buy light weapons and armor to protect their loved ones. In the western sector, there is a mysterious gate leading underground which has been sealed with the Blood-Sin sigil.
Undercity:
The "Undercity" of Leá Monde has no official name. This was the term given by the city's more affluent citizens to an underground maze of poorly-lit and poorly-constructed streets and shanties where the city's lower class dwelled. The rivers rage through certain areas of the Undercity, making living underground sustainable, and the inhabitants even built their own workshop called Godhands. There are sections of the area where Kiltian glyphs adorn the walls, indicating that priestesses likely sought refuge here during their persecution. There is also a small sector about which nothing is known, as it has been sealed off by the Blood-Sin sigil since before recorded history.

9. Rhand, Joshua Bardorba, Town 1-Shot Hider - Killed Night 6
10. Seppel, Jan Rosencrantz, Mafia Roleblocker - Lynched Day 7
The reports are vague, but our agents departed for Leá Monde before noon. There is only one path to infiltrate the city, through a massive wine cellar that leads into the Catacombs.
We sent guards to monitor the entrance. All were found dead. Other bodies were found as well: two of the Cardinal's Crimson Blades.
Our men were murdered with swords, but the knights' wounds appear to indicate they died by their own hands. We are continuing our investigation.

Clearly that person has never heard of uppercase letters, and that is sign of lacking education. We all know that lack of education leads to all kinds of crimes.
Also, saying this already: If Iso ends up staying alive and winning this game as mafia, I'll eat my hat.

Because I can't bold things on my phone, and to make it clear that I would have voted sooner could I have done so.
Is your vote serious? If not, why are you RVS voting after I've ended RVS? If so, are you planning on elaborating on reasons why or are you going to piggyback off of the wagon that Void and I have started?

When would you have voted for him sooner and why?
I'm voting him for #29 because he gave several more games than Void asked for and then asked if he wanted town games as well, which seemed self-conscious to me - but then the last line is basically daring Void to vote for him, which feels like a show/disconnected from the effort he put in to give a lot of meta examples. The post seems like an attempt to diffuse by providing a lot of meta and then looking over-confident.
im guessing you fail to see its from unreal tornament game that just finished where gen asked me for them. check where the quote comes from. i just copied and pasted it.
but other then that, anything you want to talk about?

Yeah, but...who cares? Like, why does it matter what you think of my push on you to everyone else?
b/c i want people to see what it looks like FMPOV?
b/c that is what it looks like you are doing?
b/c it generates dicussion?
b/c if im worng you should clarify it instead of obsuring it?
Ika was talking about how he likes being town in witchhunts because the setup is easily breakable in witch hunt spec chat, so wanting to break a setup isn't a scumtell for him methinks.
Keeping my vote on Iso. His rvs posts give me the shivers.

Yeah, but...what's the town motivation for any of that (aside from generating discussion)?
Why are you grilling him about it but not me, now that I've revealed similar information?
I thought you were just repeating him. If you're saying you got the same result in the same place, the question stands for you too.
Oh, I totally didn't see that we checked the same place, actually. I was just trying to find my Grimoire thing. But yeah, I don't see why it shouldn't be open information. Apparently the wrong person can't take it, and it's not like it'll narrow down the scum's search at all. Plus it could belong to a townie, and if so, that townie should not reveal who they are when they get their Grimoire, or even hint at it.

Don't remember, but you're welcome to go hunting for it. In retrospect, I realize I was channeling Az a bit - which amuses me, because Az usually says those sorts of things when he's scum. (Though he might have said something similar in Redux 2?) Anyway, I decided to have fun with my RVS posts while I couldn't vote, so take it as you will.

Alignment: Town
Class: [Classified]
Role: Locked
Your win condition is to eliminate all members of the Mafia.
To unlock your role, you must search the city of Leá Monde for your Grimoire. You may move to a new location each Day phase, and you may move at any time (including Twilight). You will search that location upon arrival. Based upon VKP intelligence data, you have ascertained that your Grimoire is [Classified].
Please confirm via PM. Good luck!

We sent guards to monitor the entrance. All were found dead. Other bodies were found as well: two of the Cardinal's Crimson Blades.
Our men were murdered with swords, but the knights' wounds appear to indicate they died by their own hands. We are continuing our investigation.

It is now Day 1.
With 12 alive, it takes 7 to lynch.

Clearly that person has never heard of uppercase letters, and that is sign of lacking education. We all know that lack of education leads to all kinds of crimes.
Also, saying this already: If Iso ends up staying alive and winning this game as mafia, I'll eat my hat.

Keeping my vote on Iso. His rvs posts give me the shivers.
Iso: do you have town games where you talk about "evil" plans in RVS?
Yeah, but...what's the town motivation for any of that (aside from generating discussion)?
Oh, I totally didn't see that we checked the same place, actually. I was just trying to find my Grimoire thing. But yeah, I don't see why it shouldn't be open information. Apparently the wrong person can't take it, and it's not like it'll narrow down the scum's search at all. Plus it could belong to a townie, and if so, that townie should not reveal who they are when they get their Grimoire, or even hint at it.
So what's the big deal?

Don't remember, but you're welcome to go hunting for it. In retrospect, I realize I was channeling Az a bit - which amuses me, because Az usually says those sorts of things when he's scum. (Though he might have said something similar in Redux 2?) Anyway, I decided to have fun with my RVS posts while I couldn't vote, so take it as you will.
