KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
Can I get on the reviewer list? I'm going to play at most one game at at time, so I can review practically anything. And I have experience ;-)

Logical Reasoning is dead; Long Live Stupidity
Quote from Seppel »
I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.

I know Xyre previously handled that for us, but I'm not certain what his regimen entailed. Currently no one is handling that function in a bureaucratic fashion. What would that look like if you took it on?

I remember reading a mathematical system for reviewing the setups when I was researching how to play Mafia. I think I could be taught how to do it properly. Especially if Iso were the one passing on the knowledge.

I just wanted to be reviewed to be a reviewer. I would be happy to review any future reviewers at such a time as I felt comfortable in my own reviewing skills. I would likely develop a set of game setups and have potential reviewers find the holes, rate the swingy-ness, and look at what a perfect victory would look like from either side.

Oh, did you want me to write an article? I was going to give them the trial by fire.
That works too. Though it might be interesting to have you write your own breakdown of a sample review, and turn that into an article as a helpful example.

What I did was just have the player review a setup (for the level of reviewing they intended to do, e.g. a normal) for someone else with me supervising to make sure they were thinking the right things, not missing any serious flaws. It was very ad-hoc, and not actually meant for training the inexperienced but just signing off on the qualified. A more systematic approach could definitely be done.
Please add a Mini to the queue to be hosted by me:
Game Name: Tower of Joy Mafia
Size: Mini (11 players)
Complexity: Low. Some role uniqueness but this game is simpler and less swingy than the standard Alternate Game of Thrones Series games.
Misc: A Prequel to the Alternate Game of Thrones Series - this game is a re-enactment of the event that caused the games to start a timeline trajectory that differs from the series cannon and has resulted in the games that many of you have played (Winterfell, The Wall) - the battle at the Tower of Joy! The flavor of the game will be presented as real-time happenings in a battle.
Participating characters and alignments of those characters (not players) will be open knowledge (and will not be able to be claimed during the game, along with flavor).
Role functions will be claimable. Game will be full-reveal upon flip.
The happenings of the battle will shape future games in the series and may insert characters (and their motives) into the universe that are not currently alive in the source material.

I would be interested in Iso's reviewer trial by fire process, if that's an actual thing. Both to be able to review competently, and to help my own setup design.
I would be interested in helping out people who want to take the trial by fire; I might have to borrow some setups by Iso or ask the owners of old setups if I could use them for this purpose, but I feel like I've done enough reviews by this point that I could help people who want to be reviewers.
In particular, I've reviewed some of the non-standard designs which I could bring on for reviewers who want to try balancing some of the weirder setups.
EDIT: And by non-standard, I mean things like Full Deck Mafia that have additional mechanics. I think the other non-standard designs I've reviewed haven't quite run yet.
If anyone's interested in more of collaborative type thing, I've got some ideas for a Mythic Creatures Mafia (MtG-based) game, highly flexible in potential complexity.
I sent you guys PMs to add you to what we have going on.
I REALLY would have preferred if you had asked me first so that I could reuse the same material for everyone and so that we didn't have too many voices going on at once.

Sorry I took that choice away from you. Next time I will run the idea by you.
Yeah, usually setups have 2 reviewers and little if no more. I'll just have to think of something else for them, I guess, once I can get the time to update you + Plowshares's. When you're learning, it gives me less ability to gauge your own review prowess if even more voices are contributing.

You can also choose to be a replacement in an already started game. You may find this easier or more difficult depending on the situation your predecessor left you in. There's a general purpose replacement request thread that mods ask for players in, or you can ask the mod of each game to put you down as a replacement. I would recommend replacing into a game with fewer than 1000 posts; the fewer, the better, since it can be hard to catch up if you have to read too much.
