Assuming standard rules, starting with perfect knowledge:
If Town is lynched, Mafia wins instantly.
If SK is lynched, Mafia wins instantly.
If Mafia is lynched, Town wins instantly.
If there is a No Lynch, the situation goes to night.
Mafia kills SK, SK kills Mafia -> town win.
Mafia kills SK, SK kills Town -> SK win.
Mafia kills town, SK kills Mafia -> SK win.
Mafia kills town, SK kills Town -> Mafia win.
Therefore, a No Lynch guarantees an SK win. It is also the only option that allows SK to win. So SK must vote No Lynch and has no reason to vote anything else.
Now it's up to the Mafia and the Town. There is no optimal play here. If both vote for Mafia, town wins. If both vote for town, Mafia wins. Either way you have to convince someone to vote for the "wrong" thing. But if neither votes, it goes to deadline and therefore a No Lynch, allowing the SK to win.
So in the perfect knowledge case, no one has a perfect play. I believe this means that no imperfect knowledge case can have a perfect play. You have to convince someone to make a mistake or consciously choose to play kingmaker, and the SK has to hope that no one can come to an agreement before time runs out.
Edit: Realized an error in the above: Mafia kills SK, SK kills Town is a Mafia win. Have to redo the logic...
If all parties know that it's 1-1-1, first you shame the mod for not having prisoner's dilemma solved(I, for example, typically give an SK an ability that lets them autowin prisoner's dilemma), then you no lynch because the townie shouldn't ever vote for not no lynch if they want to win. Then you play Prisoner's Dilemma.
And it all lead to that you killed Townie and you won the game...? Did I get it right?

He's asking what you'd do if you were scum, though.
Come to think of it, I won my first scum game (second overall Mafia game) in a 1-1-1 split after I lynched the Doctor. I was 1-Shot BP, the last remaining townie was 1-Shot BP, and the SK was Unkillable...so it was a stupidly silly endgame scenario, but I still won it for us. Good times, Amnesia Mafia.

Wait, what? If Mafia kills SK, SK kills town, SK wins...?
I think I already mentioned it earlier, but here's the case in simple terms (and by the rules my playgroup has agreed on):
50% is enough for no-lynch, so when 2 players are left, it takes only 1 vote for no-lynch to success
Mafia wins if they are only ones alive.
Town wins if they are only ones alive.
SK wins if no one is left alive. (And alone, they just commit suicide and win).
Now, here's the thing.
During they day, there is 4 options:
* Kill town -> Mafia and SK kill each other -> SK win
* Kill Mafia -> SK kills town -> SK win
* Kill SK -> Mafia kills town -> Mafia win
* No-lynch.
Town knows this and since they can't win, they vote for no-lynch. With town not voting, neither SK nor Mafia can get another lynched.
So, we go to no-lynch.
Now, town can nothing but wait.
Mafia and SK have 2 options: To kill the other one or to kill the town. And this one here is Prisoner's Dilemma.
* Mafia vote town, SK votes town -> Town dies and next night they kill each other -> SK wins.
* Mafia vote town, SK votes Mafia -> Next night, SK kills town -> SK wins.
* Mafia votes SK, SK votes town -> Next night, Mafia kills town -> Mafia wins.
* Mafia votes SK, SK votes Mafia -> Town wins.
Now, the interesting this here is, what would you do to break out of this and manage to win as mafia?

Interesting. The rules you laid out are quite different from what I was assuming. What I'm used to here:
- Any vote (lynch or no lynch) requires a majority, so you need 2 to vote NL.
- Mafia wins if they control the vote, meaning they will win if they are alive with one other player.
- Town wins if all the mafia are dead and at least one town is alive.
Edit: I don't think this is really a Prisoner's Dilemma, I think it's a Kingmaker situation. As Mafia, simply make it clear that you're always going to point your night kill at the SK, and that they get to choose whether you win or the town wins. Then you just try to influence them to like you better. Post some funny cat images or something.
I mean, no matter what, town's only chance of winning there is if they go into night with all three alive, so the townie shouldn't vote anything besides no lynch, meaning there is no chance of mafia victory?
Well, no, first, I'd clarify with the mod what happens if two non-town factions are the only players still remaining. If it's 'well you go to day and whoever votes first', then I'd shame them for not considering this scenario.
I'd vote no lynch, go to night phase and kill the sk, forcing him to kill me and give town the win.
Now, this gets a lot more murky if it's a closed setup and the existence of an sk is not known(or so on).
Now, the interesting this here is, what would you do to break out of this and manage to win as mafia?
Press against the weakness of individual players and hope for a mistake or play in your favor? Archon hit the nail on the head.
You're also presenting a situation where everyone has perfect setup information, and in reality that's only the case in open setups (and sometimes not even then). As scum you have the ability to introduce false elements and red herrings to the game to create a setup in which other players unintentionally act toward your interest.

Well, this scenario isn't uncommon in RL-mafia, which are most of the time open setups, since basic + open setup is the most feasible for GM with no need for extra equipment.

At least around here, SK is one of the basic roles, along with cop and doctor.
It really depends on the GM, but I (and my fellow GMs) usually use mafia, SK, cop and doctor as a basic set-up, and then start adding other roles to spice it up.
On the other hand, Godfathers and Vigilantes are something that I haven't ever seen in RL-mafia. One-shot towns do exists, but vigilantes don't.

It hasn't been, so far as I'm aware. To the best of my knowledge, we selected Megs and Asian to fire next, but RL commitments and/or activity concerns and/or signup overlaps have prevented them from firing for several months. Annorax had a setup submitted in the interim, which to the best of my knowledge, was the only other submission we received via the mafiascribe account during that period.
Discussion took place between a bunch of people via PM, including the council, Megs, Iso, Asian, and some number of other people that are also on the FTQ committee, but without an alternative to decide between, voting via the full committee seemed a bit redundant.
Frankly, we should have had another FTQ spooled up long since. After the selection of Megs and Asian's setup, I had noticed that we seemed to have a dearth of FTQ'ing going on, but wasn't aware of the reasons why until recently.
Yes, my apologies for my part in this. I am IRL scum and had and have some selfish reasons for not wishing to run it (including RL time constraints, interest in the setup, a competing setup that I would prefer to run if I had a chance to run an FTQ game), and I know that AI is definitely unable due to time constraints as well.

Maybe a vote via the full committee would've brought their wealth of experience of over 40 games (conservatively) hosted to bear and would've come up with a reason why we shouldn't auto-run the only setup that's submitted. We're not exactly bursting at the seams with players, or, plainly, with FTQ-level submissions. I think running this iteration of the FTQ is an attempt to fill a demand that doesn't exist.

Just a slight question that has been puzzling me: What are spectators and mentors?
I mean, I kind of get the spectator, but why do you have to sign up as one? It kind of sounds that one is not allowed to read other game-thread unless they've signed up as a spectator...

Spectators get a seperate Quicktopic to chat about the ongoing game and are often informed about the setup. They can never replace into the game because they have too much knowledge.
Mentors assist a player with guidance. Also in a Quicktopic. There are some strict mentorship rules, preventing the mentor from actually influencing the game.
Well, since this is supposed to be "theory" discussion, I'm going to throw you guys a nut to crack (I've been pondering this one really, really long).
Day X begins, and only ones left are a single mafia, a single serial killer and a single town.
SK wins if everyone is killed (including them).
You are playing as mafia. Everyone knows who is the town remaining (causing you and SK to know each other, but town doesn't know who is mafia and who is SK).
What would you do in order to have a chance of winning?
I tell everyone who I am a la Majora's Mask, tell the town he's screwed anyway and that he should let me win because I'm a cool guy.

You sign up so that you can discuss the game with the mod and other spectators as it unfolds, which is more fun than reading alone. Sometimes you are given knowledge of the setup as well, which makes for a learning opportunity; you can learn how to evaluate hard-to-read players this way sometimes if you know their alignment in advance.

So I've been thinking... you know that whole "3rd person on the wagon might be scum" thing... how does that work, exactly? And does it only work for the third person? Do larger games require a different place on the wagon? Is it even scummy, really?
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
Third spot is a safe one to hop on to a wagon, since there's already two townies on it. Scum can be reasonable certain that the wagon will go somewhere and that they will look good for being on it.

Additionally, 3rd vote is one of the momentum spots on a wagon. It's more likely to go to through as more votes come on, and yes, there are other momentum spots on the wagon.
