I've recently been re-watching through the entire series, if anyone would care to join me & discuss.
What I Like About It:
It's fully-animated & very well-done, not at all in the crappy flash animation style of some late-night Cartoon Network shows. Huge fan of quality animation.
It's hilarious. It parodies & satirizes classic cartoons such as Johnny Quest & Scooby Doo, in later seasons has a lol at the entire superhero cartoon genre, & takes shots at Disney too.
The "bad guys" are full characters on their own, with lives outside of being "bad guys". If you've ever wondered what the villains do on their days off, this show has quite a bit of that.
The recurring secondary & tertiary characters are diverse without being stereotypical or "token". You'll really have to watch to understand this one but it's part of what makes the whole thing so cool.
I really think that anyone who enjoys animated genres & who has watched American animation created within the last 40 years or so will probably appreciate this series.
If you've watched The Venture Bros. before, what were your favorite parts?
If I've influenced you to watch The Venture Bros., how many episodes did you watch? What did you like best? Which parts did you dislike?
Part I disliked the most is the insane gap between seasons.
Not only were there only 3 years between season 4 and 5, we got a mere 8 episodes.
This show has given me stockholm syndrome
Plus side, there is an hour long special in 10 days. Only been 2 years since that 8 episode season.
I mean, its insanely high quality so I'll watch whatever they make, but this feels like the kind of issue that long running epic web comics run into and not something that is usually a part of animation.
I absolutely LOVE this cartoon. One of my all-time favorites and by far my favorite "Adult Swim" cartoon the network has made. I don't recall and episode where I didn't laugh out loud. I've been revisiting the reruns on my nights off (I work third-shift) and holy crap it really is a brilliant cartoon. As much as I love it, I don't own any of the seasons... for shame! Hmm.... I think I know what I'm going to get with gift card I got for Christmas.

That is definitely the only downside to the series. I have the DVR set for a season pass on all new episodes, but unfortunately one never appears on my scheduled recordings. This series is too good to end, but because of the length between seasons I always think it has ended.
I was unaware of the special coming up, so thank you sooo much for that. I know the DVR will automatically record it, but you've given me something to look forward to in ten days! WOO HOO!

(about the English language) It's kinda like a raft that was cobbled together from parts of three different boats and since then has been kept barely afloat with crude repairs every time a leak appeared.

I know that feel on the gap between seasons, but I do have other (less awesome) things to watch so it doesn't hit me as hard. Plus, you know, A Song Of Ice And Fire book series fan over here, so a) I'm in the boat of "I'd rather wait for it to be done right than have it done quickly" & b) anything less than 5-6 years seems instantaneous by comparison.
Additionally, I don't think The Venture Bros. really has the fanbase Cartoon Network is looking for, as it's a very clever show with subtleties that are easy to miss if you're not watching closely & most of CN's other American-made nighttime cartoons (no matter how amusing) appear to be marketed exclusively towards stoners. Reluctance to renew a show that doesn't hit their target demographic, or the desire to save the airtime to test new shows that are more in-line with their target demographic's interest, might be part of the reason for the large gaps between seasons.

It absolutely is! As I'm going back through I'm noticing specifically how amazing the songs are, particularly the Jacket song, but with honorable mention for the Butterglider song & Dr. Venture's musical. When there's visuals along with the song (Butterglider & Jacket) it's always brilliantly done, adds to the song in ways that most modern music videos don't, & just total work of art going on. It doesn't hurt that the tunes are super catchy & the lyrics are pure genius, either.
