There's also another English show called Whitechapel, which is set in the same area but in a present-day setting. There have been three seasons that I'm aware of, the first of which dealt with a series of copycat Ripper murders, and the other two had a similar vibe. Also a pretty decent show.

Ripper Street is a BBC TV series set in Whitechapel in London's East End in 1889, six months after the infamous Jack the Ripper murders.
