But TV Show budget, B_S. They had a lot of effects this episode which probably at the whole budget... plus this had to look like an abandoned Inhuman city, because Attilan will obviously have to wait for the Inhumans movie.
I understand why it happened. But a TV show needs to plan for these sorts of things so it doesn't write checks it can't cash. Even the holographic projection of the map made the city look really alien and cool. And it's not like shows can't pull this sort of thing off. Stargate SG-1 managed to have the team running around abandoned ruins for ten years and it almost always looked better than this. They were actually shooting in Puerto Rico, which is cool, but maybe not the best decision given their needs here.
Also, characters seemed to be acting dumb to drive the plot forward, a sin this show normally avoids and subverts with positive glee. There were a couple of its characteristic smarter-than-the-plot moments, like the early exchange between Hunter and Mockingbird and of course the Ward thing, but in the third act, well...
Fair enough. I don't think they needed to be shooting on location, either. Much rather that money went into sets, but they may have needed to keep it absolutely as generic as possible to avoid conflicting with the future Inhuman movie.
am i the only one that thinks that the rate they're pushing the inhumans introduction a little too aggressive?
on one hand it would be great if they could introduce more of the universe other characters since as of late the whole SHIELD Vs HYDRA storyline getting a little stale.
but on the other hand it feels the route they're taking seems to be the same reason that i was put off western comics for the past few decades, where you need to catch up on the other source to get the full picture. (considering the fact that the current MCU consist of 2 tv series, average of 2 movies and plan of 4 web mini series. i'm guessing it would be a matter of time when those mega event crossover event would happen to the MCU)
and on the ep
damn, i liked trip

In summation: You are not inherintely superior for using a rogue deck.
I wouldn't say this show is must watch television yet, but it has been steadily getting better for a while. And such a large cast of recurring characters means that people really can die at any time (with the obvious exception of the core team).
That was the best part about expanding the size of the cast in season 2. They now have enough people that they can (and will) be able to lose a few.
Overall I guess I liked the episode, though I still find it really annoying how much the show is pushing the "Skye is an important character!" moments in our faces. Shooting Ward did help to give her some cred I will say, it was a good moment, but overall there's still far too much of her for my liking.
Anyone watched the latest episode, "One Door Closes?"
The premise is similar to last year's end-game twist, but unlike HYDRA, Gonzales actually spurs some interesting debate. His faction's hypocrisy doesn't help though.
Also, Jemma taking out Bobi. Nice to see intelligence trumping over brute force.
Shield has been great this entire season and both of your comments are on the mark. The entire time that Simmons was like "oh hey, sorry, im so nerdy" I kept thinking "ok, now do it.... do it... DO IT.... YESSSSSSS"
Best moment on Tuesday was stolen by Mark Hamill on The Flash, but Shield has been impressive (and skye at the end? WOW!)
I really like this last episode. SHIELD doesn't have many episodes where I can unabashedly say I loved it beginning to end, but this one definitely did! Honestly, if more episodes of this show were this well paced, it'd be one of the best shows on TV.
I'm not impressed with the second half of this season so far. Simmons' "I hate superpowers now" thing seems like a really forced conflict, the team took out HYDRA way too easily, and now we're seeing the same basic "betrayed from within!" plot again. The twist that the new traitors are nicer than HYDRA isn't enough - it'd be something if they were actually sympathetic and created a real dilemma, but we're clearly still supposed to be rooting for Coulson and company, so their niceness is pretty much just cosmetic.
Also, the scene between Bobbi and Simmons is fun in its own right, except Simmons has been established to be a horrible liar and wear her feelings on her sleeve.
Ward's still a great villain, though. And there's always the little things, like Gen. Talbot's sermon about riding mowers.

I think it says something that Skye's fight scene was better than any in Age of Ultron. It's like Daredevil set a bar and Agents of SHIELD decided it had to step up its game.
Haven't seen Age of Ultron yet. Anything in it that's likely to wind its way into AoS?
Honestly, it's hard to say. I don't think the writers on the different Marvel projects are talking to each other as much as they ideally should (though I hasten to add that realistically it's remarkable what they have achieved).

Its a good scene, but is it too early? I mean Skye Daisy has been training with May, but that scene made her super proficient, even if it was only against Hydra goons. Daisy had the one fight with Agent 33 Kara where Daisy barely lost, and one episode back in season 1 where she flipped a security guard while impersonating May. I love that Daisy is getting character development (right term here?), but it seems a little rush. It feels like the higher ups are planning to plug Daisy into an upcoming movie and need her to be at least Melinda May level fighter before Daisy makes the transition into the big screen.

Not sure:
But Age of Ultron's opening makes more sense if you've been keeping up with Agents of Shield because Phil Coulson's actions in "Dirty Half Dozen" are the canon reason Age of Ultron starts the way it did. And with the way Age of Ultron ends, I'm curious if SHIELD may be about to rise out of the ashes beyond the Phil Coulson Power Hour.
Personal nit pick: Raina's prophecy of consequences and metal men at the end of the Dirty Half Dozen made me cringe a little bit. The HYDRA and Inhumans allusions to each other between Age of Ultron and AoS was enough for me without actually referencing the Ultron himself. Raina felt like she was foreseeing a trailer, not a vision of what's to come.

Welp, the finale should be pretty interesting. I swear though, the universe just HATES Skye
One thing I'm curious about is that while looking online is that Kevin Feige has stated that the Agents of SHIELD tie in to Age of Ultron isn't done yet with the lead in they got before Age of Ultron.
Apparently how Nick Fury gets ahold of the helicarrier again is supposed to be a plot point in the coming weeks.

Could that be any more of a boring resolution to that mistrust?
I shipped avengers academy with head instructor Lance Hunter with Principal Mockingbird
It could have, and Age of Ultron is the reason because (1) we skip about 2-3 weeks between episodes, and (2) it's spelled out that Tony Stark's hubris bringing about Ultron and a near apocalyptic event warmed Coulson up to the idea of trying to work more cooperatively with Gonzolas and the "Real SHIELD" (although, they were already working towards that in Dirty Half Dozen).
In the end, it feels like how it should have all come to an end (even if it wasn't the best way to end it) because I don't think SHIELD factions going to war would have been that interesting.

I'm getting a little tired of absolutely every character making absolutely the dumbest decision at absolutely every opportunity. This writing is a complete 180 from earlier seasons where humanity's best and brightest were actually bright.

-Cal had so many great moments for this one. He may have been really messed up inside, but he honestly did care about Skye and it finally came through. I teared up a little when he mentioned that he only had one "Best Day Ever".
-Farewell, sweet Raina. I always wondered what her payoff would be, and I have to say it was satisfactory in the end.
-Chopping off Coulson's hand was a slight surprise. Wonder how that's gonna get dealt with in the next season.
-NOOOOO JEMMA!

"Proving god exists isn't hard. Proving god is God is the tricky part" - Roommate
Indeed, and it turned bittersweet with the final ending for him
I never thought she'd survive the season. Powerset was a mess and she consistently pissed off the wrong people. I hope G-Man makes it
Wasn't that surprised. As soon as the hand started to turn I knew why Mac had had that axe the entire time. He can't die, you know? I really hope he gets a repulsor or something.
Oh she's fine, relax, its a thematic upset. She who hates powers, is powers
Wow... that finale was actually really tense. My wife fully intended to go to be halfway through (she's been working 80 hour weeks while pregnant) but she stayed up for the whole thing because she wanted to see what happened.
I enjoyed the Cal character this season and his story arc had a satisfying ending, but they really should have done something more for his "beefed up" look. I feel like he was intended to be menacing, but we were laughing as we watched him because of how goofy it looked. It's a testament to the actor that I still enjoyed the character even though he really didn't do a whole lot.

Yeah, it was a little weird how they handled it. Although I mean, I don't think anyone would have thought they'd have the budget for a hulk-lite character. If you look him up, he looked kind of goofy in the comics, too. He didn't really get the hulk-like look until much more recently.
With Season 2 finally on Netflix (and myself finally watching it), I must say this show is a lot better than I originally gave it credit for. For those of you who were unsure about getting through the first couple of episodes, it's worth it.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
