I'm the opposite of you, I didn't like those episodes at all which is why when Korra came out and had only 12 episodes to work with, they cut out all that filler stuff and that made such an improvement over the last airbender IMO
Well if you are asking me, the character development is lacking greatly in TLOK.
Until this episode, Asami was utterly worthless and in the show for no reason and Varrick did things for seemingly no reason.
There are still a lot of problems with the show right now. Mako and Korra have no chemistry. Mako and Asami have no chemistry. Bolin is Sokka with no direction or purpose. Bei Fong is there to be snappy and inconsiderable and has no purpose. Oh and I still can't get over the fact that Korra knows how to energy bend now and got her bending back for free for no reason. These are all symptoms of a show with underdeveloped characters/plot. I understand its because they had to restrict the number of episodes but last seasons finale was such a cop out its sad.
I still enjoy the show immensely though but it is in way comparable to the original. Definitely not even close.
Strictly speaking it was because Nickelodeon ordered a miniseries and it was much much later that it was expanded to a whole show so some structural flaws that wouldn't hinder a 12 episode miniseries ended up hurting the second half of season one that has nearly no connection to the first half of the season.
Imagine if we'd spent a full 26 episodes on Amon instead of them wrapping it up after 12?
Well if you are asking me, the character development is lacking greatly in TLOK.
But it was made up by having a solid storyline that didn't stop for filler stuff. It would be nice if they had some character development but I would rather see 12 episodes of straight story rather than 26 episodes of derdling around until the last couple episodes
Until this episode, Asami was utterly worthless and in the show for no reason and Varrick did things for seemingly no reason.
The way I see it, Asami's reason to be back in the show is just to screw with Mako and Korra's relationship, so basically S1 all over again. As for Varrick, he was up to no good when he continued dropping hints about violently overthrowing the north's rule
These are all symptoms of a show with underdeveloped characters/plot. I understand its because they had to restrict the number of episodes but last seasons finale was such a cop out its sad.
Underdeveloped character for sure, but plotwise, it was fine. The season finale was a cop out for the most part but not because of an underdeveloped plot. The plot was pretty darn stellar.

How was one half of season one not related to the other half?
We are currently in the second half of season 1 right now. I'm saying that the connection between air and spirits is non-existant sans setting and would have preferred an entire season on the Amon storyline.

I'm pretty sure this is the second season. They're using the same "book" model as the last airbender
Like The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra is about the evolution of the Avatar, not about some overarching plot. The fact that Last Airbender had an overarching plot is simply a coincidence.
As for people complaining about character development it's true this show has weaker development but I can't help but feel many of you aren't grasping the relationship between Mako, Asami, and Korra correctly. They don't have any chemistry because they in fact don't have any chemistry. It is done on purpose because that is how people who are in their teens value relationships. They aren't looking for compatibility on deep levels. Proximity, fluctuating emotions and attractiveness are the ingredients in, what is basically, a high school relationship.

Wait what. A coincidence that TLA had an overarching plot? That seems absurd. The TLA plot was to be able to become a fully realized avatar to stop the fire lord not become a fully realized avatar and coincidentally stop the fire lord. Evolution of the avatar by itself is boring if there is no world to save once you master the four elements and the creators know that.
Which is why I like Korra S1 the most out of all the series so far. It pretty much was a straight narrative that didn't stop for random side adventures

The chemistry was there in S1, maybe not glaringly obvious but it was noticeable.
And Mako, Asami, and Korra (Bolin as well) are not your typical teenagers. They've gone through alot before S1 as well as during the course of S1, if the creators were going for that characterization for the romance subplot, they ****ed up.
I'm amazed about the origin episode. Sucks that he has 2 episode for focus.
Yes. Of all the random side plots they could've ever engaged in, this would be the one to focus in on and expand. Admittedly it was a very solid side story, but it was rushed.
Well, at least we know where it's heading and found out that it's been 10k years since the South Pole has been close and not few years before the 100 years war. After seeing that story, it could've been book 3 instead of Book 2 (and appropriate where Book 3: Water is when the water tribe is the culprit for disaster and Book 2: Spirit is just a minor skirmish with Spirits and not involving that chaos spirit).

So basically children are more mature than teenagers. I like it lol.

I think they meant that Korra was originally a single season long. Then it got 3 more season orders and that's why we are where we are now.
The part that frustrates me about Korra is all the wasted potential. Why not a season where she can only Airbend? Let the impact of Amon taking away people's bending seem heavier and then at the end of season 2, she gets to the avatar state.
The shorter orders makes it rough. I really like the silly side stories that happened in TLA. They are doing more now, but they seem rushed.
I hope Wan Shi Tong shows up. Or Koh.

Although I agree that the implications of Amon would be far heavier if Korra could only Airbend, we already went down that route with TLA. Aang was only an airbender in the first season of TLA.
I think its possible that Amon was one of the dark spirit's preparations for the harmonic convergence. The dark spirit lost the first time partly because the Avatar used the four elements against it. Take away the 4 elements and the Avatar is a significantly weaker threat.

Wait what? How does this even begin to make sense. Please stop trying to make fan fics. This seriously sounds bad.
I actually kind of hoped that Amon was an anti-avatar back in season 1. I thought it would have been so cool if during the time that aang was briefly dead that someone was elevated to the avatar and then, since he came back, the avatar spirit left the body but made a lineage of energy benders possible and, bam, Amon.

The anti avatar does exist. It's Vaatu. There is no way there is a period during Aang dies because once the avatar dies, the new one is born
I really do not understand your post. How would they become energy benders in the time he was dead? How would they make a lineage of them. You do realize Amon is like at least around mid to late 30s if not 40s... How can a lineage exist within the time lines? Even if they could, this idea sounds very bad. I am being critical but these posts hurt my head and really really do not make sense.
Wait what? How does this even begin to make sense. Please stop trying to make fan fics. This seriously sounds bad.
Well if its that bad then the writers on the show will probably make it true
Joking aside, its just my speculation, I don't even read fan fics let alone write them.
My idea was pure speculation, but the logic gap is not large. In fact, its consistent with what we've seen on the show:
1) Vaatu can speak with humans from his prison.
2) Amon claimed that he got his powers from the spirits.
3) Amon is the only human, other than the avatar, who has the power to take the bending of another person.
My conclusion: Although it turns out that Amon's de-bending comes from bloodbending, its possible that Vaatu gave Amon the idea to use bloodbending as a means of taking the bending of another.
No need for the knee jerk reaction man.

This I can agree with. If they kept Amon around for a season or two and developed a story from there. I would be fine with that
