The very same episode builds him into even more of a sympathetic character, he's already linked to the watch, Walt was just remarking how radically his view of Walt has changed, and as people in the thread have pointed out he is just about to potentially be involved in a big emotional thing (unlike most of the other major characters).
Jesse was written to be killed off before the writer's strike, so Jesse-fans better start making their peace now.

I don't believe Jesse will die until Walter unleashes his innermost evil, assuming Jesse dies at all. Gilligan stated that in this season Walter will do something that will make him so evil that the viewers will never again be able to sympathize with him. There's speculation that he sacrifices the baby, but I don't think that's where it's going. I think Walt will have to kill Skylar because she's a threat to his business. It won't be until after this show altering event that Jesse and Walter will be pitted against one another because only after it will Jesse truly understand the monster that Walt has become.
I actually believe it will ultimately be Jesse who kills Walter. I think it will be a strong ending for the show after the bond the two have built up over the course of events. Of course, I could be wrong and Jesse could go. He's had a rough time since hooking up with Walt and it would be fitting for him to bite it in the end.
There's lots of ways this show could go.
Ultimately, I think the ticking watch at the end was a call back to Mike telling Walter that he's a ticking time bomb and he doesn't want to be around when Walter goes off. Poor Skylar will be at the end of his wrath.
EDIT: Oh, and I do agree that this is probably the best show on TV right now. Though i do love me some True Blood, Breaking Bad is pretty spectacular.
Oh, I do enjoy True Blood but I cannot say with a clear conscious that it is good Television.
I'm 100% agreed. There is a difference between good television (Breaking Bad) that I can't stop watching, and insane television (True Blood) that I just can't look away from, like a car crash.
But when it's intentionally trashy I find there's nothing wrong with it!
I actually had a debate on the True Blood thread about the show because someone didn't like it because it was so "bad". It's soap opera melodrama mixed with campy pulp trash. When you do that on purpose I have no problem with it.
Enough derailment. Both shows are great for what they are trying to do!
Yeah, the heist was nerve wracking. Mostly because I felt like it was poorly executed. I mean, yeah, they didn't have much time, but yikes. I do think they should've had Mike somewhere farther watching the car with binocs (whereas he watched the car/train guys with his eyes and Walt with binocs..). I couldn't help but feel like he was standing in the open. It definitely shows that Walt is willing to throw things to the wind. Especially other people.
I also feel like one of the two is destined to die. It's a tough call as to which though. Walt dying would come as a relief the way he's going on, but Jesse dying pulls the heart strings and keeps to the show's title. Either way, provided they do it right, could be excellent (though I don't want Jesse to die :P). Walt is also getting more reckless (not just with other people's lives). He has that little alibi bs for the cash, but he's starting to get itchy. If Walt kills Skylar/Jesse and keeps going crazier, I think it would have to end with him being caught. It would be hard to make the finale satisfying without tying off Walt.
The only reason killing the kid is important is because of Jesse's reaction. If they hide/remove the evidence it doesn't seem like it affects anything, except for the characters. And I find it hard to believe Walt gives a crap.
I don't think I breathed more than three times during the entire train heist sequence.
It. was. EXCRUCIATING. (Deliciously so, of course.. :D)
When the credits started rolling, my hair was (literally) standing up all over. Goosebumps. Heart racing. Amazing.
I just can't get over how well-done this show is. I'll miss it terribly when it's gone.
Yeah the heist scene was exciting, and above all else it was intriguing. It was like the magnet scene or the deal with the first drug lord: Walt and Jesse are in a pinch and they use Science to get their way out of it. It's the hallmark of the show.
But in terms of how it advanced the plot it seemed thrown in. Show a kid catching a tarantula in the beginning, show him getting shot in the closing. Que next moral dilemma.

Do we know how many seasons are left?
Bryan Cranston has said in interviews that Walter will die before the show is over. He just has never said how. It could be the cancer or it could be something more violent, but he will die before the show is over.
That said, anyone else can go as well. This show pulls no punches.
The second they started setting up to rob the train I thought "what if some random person comes by? Oh well maybe it's very remote and there's not much chance."
Then two separate people come by and complicate things, hah.

I have seen Cranston hint at Walt's possible demise on late night talk shows, but I have never seen Cranston straight out say Walt will die in the series.
@1Drop: My understanding is that this is not the last season. They came up with 16 new episodes, and will show 8 of them now as one season and 8 of them later as another.

They are splitting it into two parts, with the second part debuting next summer, but it is all the same season.
I guess it all depends on what you call a season. It will all be in the same dvd box, but they will be a year apart

Really interested to see where things sit at the mid-season break, especially with the events that closed out last night's episode. I also want to say for the record that the beginning of the episode was one of my favorite before-the-opening-credits segments thus far.
"You're Heisenberg." / "You're goddamned right I am."
As a side note, I dig seeing Justin Lewis on the show (he was the one talking to Walt at the beginning of last night's episode). I really liked him in the first season of a Canadian show called Durham County (among other things), and hope we'll see more of him as the final season of Breaking Bad progresses.

It also could be an allegory for Skyler waiting for Walt's cancer to come back.

Its like this show is well written or something!
The Sopranos, during its run, was regarded to be the best show on television. I recall that honour being passed onto The Wire.
I think Breaking Bad most definitely holds that right now.

I never said I didn't LOVE the show. I love car crashes, I'm an EMT!
I actually like the most recent episode. Jessie has clearly become one of the real thinkers of the group.
But the ending, OH MY GOD!
