Love this show, Season 5 has started and it is still going strong. I agree that the Acting is the best I have seen on Cable Television. Walter's Maniac laughing scene is still stuck in my head.
I thought the premiere was fantastic, although I'm not entirely clear what direction this season is taking. Is this season going to be all about covering themselves? I doesn't really seem like they left a lot of plot threads unresolved.

I think it seems pretty obvious that
Walter is going to more or less take over the area now that Gus is gone, he even already has Mike following him around
So sure that I'll put it in spoilers
Also this is supposed to be the last season right? So yea.

This is speculation so I don't think it really needs spoilers. If mods disagree, so be it.
I think this season will start with Walt filling the gap left behind by the loss of Gus. After that it will be about Hank figuring out who Walt really is. The real questions are A) what will Hank do about Walt and B) what was that giant freaking machine gun in episode 1 for?!??!?

The giant shotgun in a new getaway vehicle way up north with Walt sporting hair, beard, and fake ID? Something's going to happen in the next 7 episodes, and it wont be good for Walt. The best part of the episode (other than the awesome incorporation of an electromagnet) was seeing who might turn the tables for Mr White.
Is Mike really going to work nicely with Walter after he killed Gus? What would Jesse do if he found out about Walt's other poison? Is Saul going to stay quiet? Will Hank get the footage? Will Bernanke keep his word? How will the iciness with the Mrs. affect Walts work?
Plenty of new threads opened for the final season.
Favorite part of last episode was when the DEA captain was talking about gus being right under his nose. You could just see Hank about to put everything together. I have a feeling everything will fallout at one time again. Jesse finds out about the poison Hank finds out Walt has something to do with the drug thing and maybe Sky actually leaves Walts I even suspect possible suicide from her. When walt has to come out to walt jr and hank will truly be the climax. As for MG in walt's car DEA shootout? I also don't think Mike had a true emotional bond with gus more of a professional respect.

My favorite part of last episode was Mike. I really want to see him pull off one more stealth job with his grand daughters toys, it's fantastic contrast. Last episode demonstrated an important quality about Mike: Mike's business relationships are his personal relationships. Every dollar he makes he makes for his grand daughter.
Wow Walt is going pretty insane, I mean like over $100K a week and he's complaining. Also Walt's scenes with Sky and Brock were eerie.

Breaking Bad is phenomenal simply because it takes a relatively simple character and makes them your new favourite character. And then they introduce someone else who doesn't replace, but exceeds your favourite to make an entirely rich cast.
There is no 'annoying character', which is another amazing feat.
The show on the whole is phenomenal, but I feel like it probably should have ended with Season 4. That season finale would have just been an absolutely perfect series finale. I am sure that the next 16 episodes/2 seasons will be great, but, I don't think that they will top that moment.
It feels everything he says and does is to exert more control over the people around him.

He's been a pushover his entire life. He's had to adopt a controlling personality and now he's addicted to power.
This TV show is about the birth of a villain and his downfall.
You hit the nail on the head. Walter wants to be in control at all times, and has ceased to have any real 'altruistic' motives. He has finally been freed from the shackles of being a good person and living by society's rules for him.
I think there is also a strong implication that this has always been the true Walter, and that while he was poor it's easy to be a good person because you have nothing.
Spoilers for last season's finale:
My coworker made another excellent point to me about last season's finale. When Walter says 'I won', he doesn't mean that he beat Fring. He means that Heisenberg has won out and is now who he really is, rather than Heisenberg being a cover for Walter like in earlier seasons.

Probably true, but I honestly feel like people overestimate the importance of the series finale. It was still an amazing season finale, unmitigated by the start of another season, and there's more of the show because it continued.
If there's a really bad series finale somehow, we can be upset about it, but it still isn't necessarily a bad thing that they made another season. Just that they couldn't make a good ending for it.

I just noticed how he is giving Jessie the choice to tell his GF about every thing. Its so obvious how selfish his reasons for doing so are. BTW is it just me or dose saul remind you a bit of Nicholas Cage?

You mean how Nicholas Cage would do any job you offer him? Yeah, I can see that.
Walt just keeps pushing people away. Now Jesse will probably get back together with his druggie friends and smoke the product again.
Next episode is the real return of Heisenberg. A few more glorious episodes until the midseason finale and we see why Walt is on the run.

He isn't giving Jessie any kind of choice. He's manipulating Jessie into breaking up with her because he doesn't want the boy he poisoned to convince Jessie last season to hang around any more. Because he knew that wasn't a true option for Jessie.
From now on we have to pay a lot more attention to Walt and how he manipulates people.
Brings up another thing. Does the kid know it was Walt who gave him the berries or did he find a way to indirectly?

He's been a pushover his entire life. He's had to adopt a controlling personality and now he's addicted to power.
I don't agree with this at all. Walter has never been a pushover. His problem is his pride. It was alluded that his pride was the thing that came between him and Gretchen in season one and that it somehow lead to his separation from Grey Matter. His pride has been the driving force on 90% of the decisions he has made on the run of the show. It was his pride that made him refuse Elliot and Gretchen's money and it was his pride in his product when he told Hank that Gale wasn't Heisenberg. Walter's pride is his greatest enemy and the driving force behind the decision's he makes.
This TV show is about the birth of a villain and his downfall.
This I agree with 100%.
I loved the zoom in on the watch at the end of this most recent episode. The questions about who's time is running out are endless and the foreshadowing could mean so much! Awesome!

I bet it's Jesse
The very same episode builds him into even more of a sympathetic character, he's already linked to the watch, Walt was just remarking how radically his view of Walt has changed, and as people in the thread have pointed out he is just about to potentially be involved in a big emotional thing (unlike most of the other major characters).

As a coworker put it to me the other day, Walter's problem is that he can't just stop, he always has to take it that extra step too far.
