Who's excited for this one? I know I am This season will cover half of A Storm of Swords, which I personally found to be the best book in the series so far.
It kicked off a few days ago with a rather slow episode, but it made sense from a non-reader point of view - I seem to remember some complaints about last season's first episode being rushed and difficult to follow for those not reading the book.
I liked the scene with Margery Tyrell. Really shows the difference in approach to ruling between her and all the other nobles at court.
The scene with Tyrion and Tywin was pretty powerful.
Obi-Wan Kenobi was totally in this episode Not totally unrelated, I found it interesting that they introduced Barristan right from the start, since in the book, I believe he followed Dany anonymously for a while until he decided she was a true queen. But as a dramatic end to an episode, I think that scene left something to be desired.
Edit: oh, and I really liked the little touch in the intro sequence where Winterfell had been sacked and burned.
Arent you the cat that everyone whines about in MTGCommunity?
But i digress. It was ok. Leaving out the whole "Strong Belwas/Arstan Whitebeard" thing kinda sucked, but from the sheer number of characters in the book, its understandable. I like how theyre dealing withthe Tyrion/Shae relationship so far. Cant wait to see that one through.
But to be totally honest, we all know what the last ep of the season will be, which is gonna be absolutely harsh for the people whodont see it coming. But to be honest, with the internet (otherwise known as Satan's Toilet), im sure most have already spoiled it. Which is a shame, because reading said chapter in the book was....like a slap in the face.
In conclusion....Jaime Lannister.
That it all.

I'm the... cat that everyone whines about in MTGC? Well, okay. Please say Hi to Clocks (King Spam) for me and tell him he's still Varys to me.
@Spoilers: honestly, you're hinting very hard at certain events yourself - you can always use spoiler tags (

) if you want to say something that those who haven't read the books wouldn't want to hear.
Saw episode 2 a few hours ago. It suffered from the same problem as the first - there are so many characters to cover that we pretty much only get to introduce them, and barely advance any kind of storyline. The books were already kinda cramped with point of view characters at this point, and the series also follow more characters than the books by adding scenes between non-PoV characters (such as Margaery, Joffrey, Robb) and including characters that weren't present in the book (Theon).
I mean, it's a good show, and I enjoyed the episode, but the actual progress feels so glacially slow that it might be better to watch all the episodes in a single weekend or something instead.
Best scenes for me this week were probably Arya & the introduction of the Brothers Without Banners and the scene with Margaery & Joffrey. I like how Margaery learned how he was a monster in her previous scene then then suddenly became the perfect mate that a monster would ever want in the next.
Overall, a relatively weak episode in Game of Thrones history, but still had a few scenes that I really liked.
It was another talkie episode. Maybe not what we want at this point in the game (especially those of us that read the books), but it's what the show needs. Action will follow in due course.
The omission of Strong Belwas is kind of a bummer because he's entertaining, but aside from being Danny's champion in 1v1 combat for the battle of Yunkai, he doesn't actually do anything.
Also, there'd be no way to plausibly do the whole "Arstan Whitebeard" bit. It works in the book because we can't actually physically see an actor, and we're relying on the perspective of characters who have either a) never met him, or b) only half-recognize him, and not enough to place his identity. Because it's appearing on TV though, the audience would have instantly recognized him from season 1.
Catlyn's confession about feeling guilty for not being a proper mother to Jon Snow was poignant. You always got an inkling that she felt like that in the book, but it was never explicitly stated (especially since she's even harsher to him in the book than in the show). It was a nice touch.
Sophie Turner (Sansa) also got the chance to do some really choice acting in her scenes with Margaery and Olenna Tyrell. She did a great job capturing the internal struggle of trying to keep her mouth shut in the face of possible... well, death, versus the urge to blurt out just how much she loathes Joffrey. Her face really sells it.
I like the changes they made to Thoros of Myr, especially giving him the early introduction. In the book his personality is distinctly more world-weary and somewhat muted, whereas here he's quite a bit more jovial. The proper personality for someone who wields a flaming sword in battle.
In hindsight, Jaime and Brienne's swordfight delivered. I was a bit disappointed at first, until I realized that, generally speaking, Jedi are not the typical embodiment of sword combat. There wasn't much in the way of flourishes, but it felt quite visceral, especially when Brienne lays the smack down in the end, just before the Bolton men appear.
Biggest change that I don't agree with : Shae being so caring about everyone. It's going to make what's to come more awkward and difficult. Hopefully they can pull it off.
I felt Margery's and Joffrey's little talk about homosexuality and anal sex was very awkward, very contrived and almost certainly unneeded.
Actually goes with her character if you read the books. I didn't like it either but they actually did a very good job depicting their respective characters.
Strong episode tonight, last couple of scenes were chill-inducing. Emilia Clarke's performance so far this season has been really good.
So excited for her invasion of Westoros.
But I agree. Best episode of the season. Oh that bastard is such a bastard. I love the Jamie/Briene dynamic and Varys + Anyone = epicness. Looking so forward to the rest of the season. The new cast does not disappoint. I do miss Missandei's old costume. It was nice.
Another good episode. This season is really shaping up. The last few scenes were super powerful.
Littlefinger's speech, Ros killed by Joffrey, Sansa crying after hearing the news about the arranged marriage with Tyrion. Quite the end to a slow-ish episode.
On another note, I couldn't even watch as Theon was tortured. The guy clearly deserves serious punishment, but this is too much We've hardly even started though, I suspect.
Olenna is one of my favorite characters now. As is Tywin, to be honest. Amazing performances there, as always.

I just hope the show keeps delivering.
Oh to have not read the books and be naive. I love the casting of Iwan Rheon (from Misfits).
Even having read the books, the show is still surprising me. Due to the nature of TV and not having hundreds of characters, some of the compression actually makes the story a little more interesting and forces interactions that didn't happen in the books. I love how certain characters are really fleshed out, while in the books it's mostly just hinted at. A benefit of the objective storytelling of the TV show over the first person, unreliable narrator perspective of the books.
Book 3 is by far the best in the series, it's interesting to see how well they will adapt it. They skip all the battle scenes because of budgetary constraints I imagine. It's no big deal, since the books don't really focus on them, but replacing gratuitous violence with gratuitous sex is a bit cheap. Yes, they do have sex in the books, but it's also not the focus yet they chose to exaggerate this aspect, because well...sex sells.
Yeah, though the sex in the books is full of screwed up scenes that I wouldn't expect to sell. (The things I do for love.) The series' approach to sexuality as a whole is that it's messy and makes everything complicated. (Of course, that's true when you exclude Jaime and Cersei as well.)
Sex sells and sex is edgy, so of course they'll put more sex in.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
A very slow most recent episode, I think.
If I recall right, nothing much really happened. I guess Dany's plotline progressed a little.
A very sexual episode to be sure -
Shae and Tyrion talking about sex, Robb doing it (zero plot advanced in either scene). Margaery and Sansa talking about sex, wildlings talking about sex. Theon almost gets it, but not really, and his plotline doesn't move either.
I really hope they're setting up for huge things, and soon. Slow (and not excellent) past two episodes.
You really just need to embrace the rage. I keep a small colony of hamsters next to my computer and every time I lose a match to mana screw I throw one against the wall.
Understand, Dredge is not really a Magic: The Gathering deck. When a card is playable in it, it doesn't mean it's a tournament playable card. It means it's playable in whatever crazy fantasy world that Dredge operates in.
Since I have read the books, I can only guarantee that more characters are going to become worm food.
Can we please try to avoid these types of spoilers? I know it's not direct, but it still removes the element of surprise from a lot of the episodes/books, by telling us that "something" is coming.
