Amazing show, just got into it a few months ago, and I have to say that it is fantastic. I personally think David Tennant was the best of the new doctors, though there have only been 3 :p. I haven't seen any of the first 8 Doctors' series, but I intend to when I have more time.

Tennant was really fun for me but I got emotionally invested with Matt Smith's representation like nobody's business.
Personally, I diidn't really like this years episodes. I absolutely loved the Dalek and Angel episodes, though. Steven Moffat's writing has been my favourite for this year and last.

While I despise the Dalek (their voices are so damn annoying) I loved the angel episodes, especially blink. By far the best episodes of the new series.
Moffat's episodes do indeed stand out.
I agree that Tennant was the best new doctor.

Wanted to bump this thread now that the second half of Season 7 is underway. And what a reintroduction it was! Snazzy new set for the TARDIS, The Doctor behaving like a lovable kid that switches to badassness when needed, and an intriguing setup with his new companion. Personally, I hope that Clara's personal relationship is more in line with Donna Noble than most of the others (Rose Tyler and to an extent Amy Pond). You know, a companion who's there to keep him in line and keep him grounded instead of someone to fawn over The Doctor.
Speaking of Donna Noble, could we just get Wif back as a companion? Even though he was in something like only 3 episodes as a companion he was pretty damn cool. And funny. Easily makes my "top companions of new Who" list.

Anyone see "The Bells of Saint John"? God, that episode was sheer stupidity and stretches sci-fi to no end. Worse yet, they used Web and Internet interchangeably or mixed them up; what a massive pet peeve and a source of angst and anger for me.
I haven't really been keeping up with the seventh season of DW. Been busy; show's been on and off; recent DW is not as interesting or good, IMO. I'm also not very fond of this Matt Smith Doctor or Matt Smith. (Among the modern Doctors, I like Tennant and even think highly of him among all Doctors. Eccleston was also pretty good for me.)
I need to get back to actually watching it. I stopped watching just before the Waters of Mars, and haven't even watched the latest doctor. I love David Tennant, and I loved Eccleston. I just... I'm not sure if the next one can actually match Tennant.
I have to echo Blinking try and take each Doctor as a unique character that just happens to have the same name as the one before it. Each writer/actor brings there own spin on the role.
There is a sort of overarching story arch to the character though with the Doctor gradually getting over the Time war.
Ecclestone as 9 had just survived the Time War and had it a very raw experience so was rather dark in tone.
Tennant as 10 wanted to forget and was starting to get his Joy at being a time traveller back but was still capable of bringing the darkness out. That Waters of Mars episode where he realizes he is not the survivor of the time war but the victor is one of the few times where the new series has actually managed to scare us.
With Smith at 11 he now has his Joie the Vie back and is enjoying the journey again. I have to admit the Amy and Rory show went on to long so am hopeful for the new assistant.

I don't have high hopes for an actual reveal. What name could the Doctor possibly have that would be sufficient payoff for fifty years of mystery? And it's a name Clara recognizes. She said she understood him once she read the name in the history book. Howzat?

Something tells me that the higher ups aren't going to let it be known that the name of The Doctor is actually named Ulysses Jr.
Something tells me its going to be more like "So, this one time, the Doctor seriously meddled and took on a role in human history"
Alternatively, its not so much that we get his actual name name, but just something else that he could have referred to himself as, like how 10 was "The Oncoming Storm" and "The Lonely God" or whatever.
I just hope his name is something completely normal.
Like Bob.
Realistically there's probably not one name that could be so devastatingly amazing that the reveal will be a huge bomb drop. There's just no way any name could live up to the 50 years of hype surrounding it. If he says some random name that means nothing, it's not some deadly secret. If it's something like "My name is Jesus" it's just dumb.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
]I agree that most people theorized that John Hurt is 8.5 which kind of make sense. His shadowed figure looks like he's wearing Victorian clothes PLUS a leather jacket which like 8th and 9th's iconic suit. We don't even know what happen during the Time War... Makes me sad to think that 8th isn't the one ended the war.
So pretty much everything since series 5 (Beast Below, God Complex and etc) are filled with foreshadowing. He knows that he himself stopped the Time War... But he didnt say he did I as the Doctor.
Got to hate the name of the title that actually leads to another "whoa" factor.
Come to think of it, the Doctor's personal time stream is the "one" (maybe there's few more) places (aside from bad guys gathering different Doctors throughout history) where the Doctor will have 2 vs 1... 10th and 11th vs "Former" (derived from "Formerly Known as the Doctor").
We don't know how he stopped the entire war... Remember he trapped the Daleks, Time Lords and other Eldritch Abominations who participate the war... With just killing a space whale made him want to change his name, what else did he do to change everything?!? Even "The Town Called Mercy" seems to reflect his decision and involvement in a war.
