Randy Marsh is certainly up there, but my all-time favourite TV dad has to be Hal (Bryan Cranston) from Malcolm in the Middle. Not only is he hilarious but you can always tell he's trying to be a good dad even when he does something silly/stupid.
If we are talking best dads, I think the top two have to be Heathcliff Huxtable and Red Foreman. Through out the entire series, their best interest was always their kids and their family's overall well being. Red's was just more "foot in your ass" kind of way.If we are talking about funny, I go with Al Bundy and Red Foxx (Sanford and Son)...man I wish we have shows like those now...soooo good.
sitcom dads
------------
Heathcliff Huxtable (Bill Cosby)
Henry Warnimont (Punky Brewster)
Steven Keaton (Family Ties)
Martin Crane (Frasier)
All such great characters, both well written and performed. Guys who cared deeply for their families. Weren't afraid to be either tough or vulnerable when the situation called for it. Man, I gotta be careful, I'm starting to tear up a little here thinking about some of these old shows.
sci-fi dads
------------
Benjamin Sisko (DS9)
William Adama (Edward James Olmos)
He steps up at times though...
