I haven't watched South Park in a while and it's this tween wave episode where Stan's dad tries to be hip and understand the new generation by liking the new tween wave genre. It reminded how much I love Randy (Stan's dad) character. Like remember when he tried to play WoW like 5 years ago? Dang that was great.
Anyways what are some awesome dads in TV shows come your guy's minds?
Edit: I thought about putting more specific parameters on what defines an awesome dad or what I was asking for. Randy Marsh is an awful parent but I really enjoy him because he entertains me. I would say any type of dad that entertained you. You can also list great guys that were great fathers, it doesn't have to be biological.
I gotta say Hank Hill for being that all-around good ol' true American. And after that I have to say George Lopez, reminds me so much of my uncle and his crazy family.
This thread is confusing. All of these are examples of completely awful parents(alright George Lopez isn't awful, but he is still pretty bad). Who is going to be next? Walter White? Al Bundy?
I can't think of many awesome TV dads, but the dad from Malcolm in the Middle is probably up there.

Awesome in what way? Peter Griffin is a awesome yet stupid dad but still awesome
He's the father of the Weir family in Freaks and Geeks and is one of the best characters in the entire series, when I think of father's from TV Series', he immediately comes to mind.
He was hilarious, and always managed to crack me up.

Sorry about that. I tried to clarify with and edit. Bryan Cranston was also awesome in Breaking Bad as Walter.

Walter White gets my vote right now, closely followed by Hal from Malcom in the Middle.
He's tough, but fair. He has a really great, realistic relationship with his wife and daughter and has a good heart and always tries to do what he feels is just and fair and good. In addition to his own child, he often acts like a pseudo-parent to many of his students.
Eric Taylor from FNL was a great character, but his charm was more in his realism for me, than in his talent as a parent. And He was a better coach than parent.
Walter White has issues, but I will always love him for attacking that football player in the clothing store who mocked his son with CP.
Giles from BtVS was one of my favorite "father figures".
-
Favorite dad as a dad? Keith Mars from Veronica Mars. Single dad, P.I., trying to make ends meet and raise a precocious daughter. I got teary eyed watching him desperately slap out a fire with his bare hands when Veronica was kidnapped and trapped in a fridge that had been lit on fire and she's screaming "daddy".
He put his daughter first and was willing to break off his relationship with a wonderful lady to give his wife a second chance even though he knew chances were slim.
Keith: It's just that I never want you to think your mom's the villain in all this.
Veronica: Isn't she?
Keith: No, it's not that simple.
Veronica: Yeah, it is. The hero is the one that stays and the villain is the one that splits.
Keith: I don't think that's a healthy perspective.
Veronica: It's healthier than me pining away everyday, praying she'll come home.
I'm going to go with only non-cancelled TV shows right now:
Best Dad?
Ned Stark - In the sense that of any current Dads on television (now that Eureka is off the air), taught his children well and was a loving father, and yet lived as an example to others as well. It's debatable how good a strategy that was (for obvious reasons).
Most Awesome Dads?
Walter White
Rick Grimes
Tywin Lannister
Jaime Lannister
Jack Arnold (played by Dan Lauria) from the Wonder Years
Red Forman (played by Kurtwood Smith) from That '70s Show
I find Dads are generally the some of best characters on any family-based show, especially when they play the straight man to the other characters' foils.
Eric Taylor from FNL was a great character, but his charm was more in his realism for me, than in his talent as a parent. And He was a better coach than parent.

I pretty much came in here to say Coach Taylor, Giles and Keith Mars.
I liked that Eric Taylor wasn't flawless with his own daughter. I think it was perfectly in keeping with his character that he was attuned to his players and less so with Julie. But I think he was realistic in his trying and it rang true on a lot of occasions (the pingpong scene in season one comes to mind). He wasn't the perfect dad, but I think he was one of the most realistic. And in many ways, he filled the father figure role for so many of his players.
I don't think I need to reiterate why Giles and Keith Mars were great dads. I also thoroughly love that no one questions that Giles was Buffy's father.
Jack Arnold (played by Dan Lauria) from the Wonder Years
Oh man, totally forgot about him. I love the ending of the episode "Road Test", where Kevin's dad has to teach him how to parallel park after he runs over the lawnmower.
Goku from Dragonball Z (quite literally the best role model possible)
Leo from Charmed (deals with future son problems quite well...)
Timmy's Dad from The Fairly Oddparents (that show used to be pretty funny)
Jack Arnold (played by Dan Lauria) from the Wonder Years
Red Forman (played by Kurtwood Smith) from That '70s Show
I find Dads are generally the some of best characters on any family-based show, especially when they play the straight man to the other characters' foils.
Excellent choices, especially Jack Arnold.
More recently, I really like how Bobby Singer (played by Jim Beaver) grew into his father-figure role on Supernatural.

(about the English language) It's kinda like a raft that was cobbled together from parts of three different boats and since then has been kept barely afloat with crude repairs every time a leak appeared.

It's funny that you mention Walt White and Hal in the same post, as they're played by the same actor, Bryan Cranston.
But I think Hal may be the best father on TV

Peggy Hill on the other hand is one of the worst TV mothers of all time.

+1 Walter White, definitely.
He was pretty good as the dad on Malcolm in the Middle too, I suppose.

If we are talking about just pure entertaining I would say Red Foreman, since he reminds me of my dad, but skinnier.
