I feel like parks and rec is painfully, painfully inconsistent.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but, care to explain why? I feel that if another thread is made specifically for that show, nobody would comment on it. Nobody I know even KNOWS the show, so I feel like nobody watches it. And to stay on-topic, how is it inconsistent compared with Community? Is it the characters' personalities vs. their decisions? Because that's the only way I see it as slightly "inconsistent", the answer being "diegesis-obeying humor" which Community amply uses and even addresses.

I didn't really mean inconsistent in that kind of a basic mechanics sense... I don't know, it's kind of hard to describe, but I've seen maybe 6 episodes of it and a couple were really good. For example I remember one where this little girl comes in to learn about local government and the head guy just lectures her about how awfully inefficient and unfair it is, meanwhile the others are dealing with setting up the yearly corn festival or something like that. I remember that one being hilarious, then some others just really, really failed to make me laugh. The show was definitely trying but it just felt like it was missing.
Although it's not all of it, if I had to point out one thing that contributed to that, I remember it feeling like it was trying to be the office but it wasn't really succeeding. Community, on the other hand, has never been like that for me. I might admit that part of that is simply because I generally like the characters more, just out of personal preference.

So have you guys still been watching the show? I've had a lot of trouble keeping up with one of the only shows I find worth my time to keep up with, but the episodes I have caught recently have been good.
Wow, that was insane.
Thanks to my friends' nonstop badgering, I have finally JUST started watching this show (have only seen the last 4-5 episodes that were OnDemand), but it is amazing. I never really knew anything about it because I've been watching Big Bang Theory in that time slot for a while now...seems like a terrible idea to put them against each other when they probably have an overlapping audience, but oh well. I have to say the "Remedial Chaos Theory" episode a few weeks back was pure genius. Since then, I've YouTubed various clips, and have loved everything I've seen, so I'll have to catch up on the first 2 seasons at some point. Of course, now that I've found another show to enjoy, I've heard murmurings that this is being cancelled/put on hiatus (reminds me of Better Off Ted :-/), so I hope it comes back with better ratings. They should just move it to another time slot or a different night.
Well thanks to most Cable/Dish viewers having DVR technology its not as bad as it once was.
I would miss about 85% of my favorite TV shows if I did not have a DVR easily.
Due to either..
1.) School
2.) Work
3.) Dating
4.) Magic Tournaments
5.) Family events
So yeah DVR ftw!
Community is a very very clever show and it has remained fresh throughout its history. I find season 1 the weakest overall but its still very very good the show took a bit to pick up steam.
This show also has extra special meaning to me since I am currently enrolled at a community college.
When I was a kid, I remember the epic feeling of watching a new episode of Seinfeld each Thursday and being blown away week after week...this is how I feel each Thursday watching Community. Every new episode is great and adds to it's greatness. It is a show that requires regular viewing, and can be a little goofy (not Scrubs-level, thankfully), but it is the best thing on TV (besides Curb Your Enthusiasm and maybe Louie). That being said, I don't think it should go past 4 seasons (spending 7 years in a CC is depressing enough in real life, eh?).
There have been several episodes where it had not been overly amazing but still very enjoyable. The most recent episode with luis guzman was very very good. I watched int 4 times in the last 2 days. That was how enjoyable it was. POP POP!
Last night's was fantastic (the Abed is Batman one)! I really love how this season they have successfully brought the world of these characters away from "every episode at the table" to something far more fun to watch. I was worried that Season 3 would become way too samey like 2 kind of did... but I think they've really learned how to make each episode special this time around. Here's hoping they won't cancel!
Funny how you call it the "Abed is Batman" one as I found that storyline irrelevant, boring, and predictable, so I like pretending it didn't even happen. It was the foosball story what really got me. See, THAT is what the show should consistently be like and what it is a waste not being. That had the essence of the series and was the very reason I like it and and some point had a lot of faith in it...
I still prefer other shows out there and would like it better to have a dignified if swift end that watch it continuing being below its potential.

Interesting. Community may not be for you then. I enjoyed Abed as Batman very much. What you don't understand is that Community isn't about progressing a storyline but fun adventures that slowly reveal a story about the characters. Community is the funnest show on television right now.
And how was it irrelevant? It revealed the progressing relationship of Annie, Troy, and Abed and did it very well.
I feel that you say the show is not meeting its potential because it isn't being the show you want it to be. which is fair i guess.
Yeah I guess it's really just not the show for you. There are many well loved comedies on the air right now that I can't get past 2-3 episodes. Community is the only show on network tv right now that I will watch as it airs. Everything else I Hulu because I just don't care that much about them.
Had this been Season 2, I'd agree that I'd rather see it die off than continue on the weak slope, but they've really shown creativity this season and proven that they can make funny moments away from the typical "study group gets in a fight" format that they were slogging through last year.
Well, it looks like Community got axed. It was a smart comedy that had a great run, so I can't really complain. Maybe that #SixthSeasonAndAMovie will get revived somewhere else?
For now, I'll silently mourn the loss of my favorite NBC comedy. Go Human Beings!
I did see that the other day -- that's a shame. Dan Harmon's return made Season 5 such an improvement over Season 4, in my opinion, but ratings are ratings. Hopefully, they can find some kind of audience on Netflix or some other online platform.
They do have a Hulu syndication deal already, so maybe Hulu will pick them up for the last season. I agree that Harmon made season 5 much better, but I really loved most everything about this show. Troy and Abed may be in mourning but I am as well.
