"Don Fehr and I are here to tell you that we have reached an agreement on the framework of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the details of which need to be put to paper," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "We have to dot a lot of I's and cross a lot of T's. There is still a lot of work to be done, but the basic framework has been agreed upon. We have to go through a ratification process and the Board of Governors has to approve it from the League side and, obviously, the players have to approve it as well. We are not in a position to give you information right now about schedule, when we are starting. It's early in the morning and we have been at this all day and all night, obviously. But, we will be back to you very shortly, hopefully, later today with more information in that regard."
In case any of you hockey fans didn't see this yet, Fehr and Bettman finally agreed this morning at 4:30 am!
I like hockey well enough (I'm from MA where youth hockey is *the* sport we all played growing up, and I'm a Bruins fan), but I don't see how anyone can trust the league not to screw up again in a few years. Getting excited for the NHL is just setting yourself up for disappointment again in the near future.

Yes people are actually excited about this but it doesnt mean they arent still pissed off. Im a HUGE hockey fan but its going to take me a while to come back to the league after what they've done
I'm no hockey fan so maybe I'm coldhearted, but I kind of would have liked to see the lockout go on for a lot longer because I know Bettman is an idiot. I think that would have been the only way to get rid of him and help the league out (or potentially kill it, y'know...). Because let's face it, the NHL is considerably less popular than the three other main sports and I think Bettman has a lot to do with it.
About Frox: for nearly 10 years, Frox has been helping women look good and feel great in easy-fit, mix-and-match, and work-to-weekend with just a few pieces by helping them make the right choices when it comes to clothing and accessories.

Yes, we are. Just because the league screwed things up, doesn't mean we don't love the sport or support the players who are the ones out there on the ice. And yes, I do agree. I am still mad. If these two idiots had this much motivation back in September, this whole mess could have been avoided.

I won't lie, part of me agrees. I mean, in the entire NHL history, there have been 3 lockouts. All under Bettman.
A lot of people I know are boycotting the rest of the season which strikes me as an idle threat since most of them aren't near a city to actually go to games anyway. But I think that just goes to show how seriously and emotionally Canadians sports fans tend to take hockey. Many turned to minor leagues to get their fix and got attached so I can see that being a factor at least with Canadian hockey fans.

Gate sales arent the only revenue. In fact, theyre minimal when compared to television revenue and sponsorship, both of which can be affected EASILY if fans dont tune in

Lots of people said the same about the NBA or even the NFL but they did just fine last year.
But I think a boycott could have a larger effect on the NHL since it's got a smaller fanbase than the NBA. They'll come back around though.

Absolutely, I just wasn't sure how much Canadian viewership counts. I'm used to dealing with the Nielsen system where Canadian viewers aren't worth a pinch of ****.

Don't underestimate an angry Canadian hockey fan.

The difference (at least here) is that Canada has a rather large number of alternatives to the NHL for hockey fans. And a lot of people have already gotten hooked on these smaller leagues, particularly the major juniors which got a chance to step out of the NHL's shadow. They're cheaper, more accessible and lack a lot of the politics and drama of the NHL. And if teams like Toronto and Montreal reflect regional pride, the smaller, more localized MJ league teams reflect that on a more intimate level. I know in my hometown, attendance was up the past couple months for the QMJHL team as everyone turned to the local team to get their hockey fix.
I suppose it just remains to be seen if that'll keep up. But again, I wouldn't underestimate a Canadian hockey fan with deep feelings of betrayal.

Sponsors are sponsors. ANY fans that walk away hurt the league's revenue. As you pointed out, the Canadian market may be hurt by the QMJHL and the like and lose that way. In the US we obviously dont have those luxuries but instead we have exponentially more "casual" fans that could walk away and not miss the league one bit. The most telling sign will be where the numbers stand come playoff time.
...Bettman's tenure in the NHL has been controversial. ... Bettman was also a central figure of three labor stoppages, including the 2004–05 NHL lockout that saw the entire season canceled.[5] These controversies have made him unpopular with many fans around the league.[6]
I think those ones are the obvious ones but I'm interested in how well Minnesota will do this season after their big acquisitions during the summer.
as for my habs, I still think we're gonna have a rough year even after getting rid of our ****ty management, since new management has done next to nothing to fix the mistakes of old management
what do you think about Pittsburgh's and Washington's chances if Malkin and Ovi decide to stay in Russia?
They wont. But, even with them, PIT lost their best defensive forward and a dman from an already average group and Ovi will hve to deal with a new system and no Alex Semin. Both playoff teams, but neither Cup contenders imo

Atleast its a 10 year deal, so maybe we can go the next 10 years without 3 lockouts!
yeah but there's an opt out in year 8, soooooo......

Blaming Bettman for something the OWNERS wanted is like punching your floor after you hit your toe on the corner of the table.
Both sides are to blame for this, but at the end of the day, it's over and we can have our very beloved sport back. Hallelujah!

Wonder where the TV contract is going to wind up, and who (if anyone) will stay overseas.
tv contact (US) was signed before last season. 10 years, 2 billion. So that wont be affected
