Barnett is the ultimate badass. I saw a youtube video of him at an Every Time I Die show where he took a stage diver and put him in the torture rack during their set. It was hilarious.
I hope he wins as well. I'd like to see him remain near the top of the heap at HW.
Anywho, Saturday! I'm also undecided on whether or not Weidman can pull it off again. It's really tough to say because of Silva's clowning. The thing I wonder about is Silva's chin. Did he really get KO'ed because of the clowning or has his age finally caught up with him and his chin gave out? We've seen it before like with Liddell, Wandy and plenty of other. I suspect though that Silva is just fine since he hasn't really taken a ton of damage over the course of his career.
I'll be routing for Silva and my gut tells me he'll come out looking to make up for the last time. But you never know in this sport.
I'm also routing for Tate. She's from my neck of the woods and I generally like her. And she has an ass that refuses to quit! Plus Rousey is as crazy as a soup sandwich and can be a major *****. But I think Rousey is too good for Tate and will secure another armbar and keep the belt.
I'm also hoping Barnett wins. He plays magic. That's really all anyone here needs to know.
For Chuck Liddell's case, it wasn't his chin that caught up with him. Honestly everyone that the UFC had at the time was pretty bad. He finally fought better opponents when he was older. Go figure.
For Wandy, it was definitely age. He slowed down and got hit way more than before.
For Anderson, it can be age but the clowning was what lost him the last fight. He never really needed a chin before since he never got hit.

Sorry but no, that's just flat out wrong. Watch his early fights again when he was at his prime. His style was basically "hit them back harder". He'd eat three good shots to deliver one better shot. He fought plenty of guys with KO power who couldn't phase him, including Vitor Belfort, Alistar Overeem, Murilo Bustamante, Guy Mezger and Kevin Randleman. Even Rampage couldn't finish him the first time they fought (Liddell's corner threw in the towel because he was obviously too exhausted to continue and had Rampage on top of him punching him over and over but not KO'ing him). The punch that Evans hit him with was solid for sure but the ones that KO'ed him from Rampage, Rua and Franklin, as well as the ones that dropped him from Jardine and Silva, are all shots he would have eaten with no problem a few years before. He's even spoken about it in interviews as well. When the body takes those kinds of shots for years and years it eventually gets to a breaking point and that's exactly what happened with Liddell. The question is, is that the case for Anderson?

A pre roided Overeem? Belfort has always been more a swift strikes than one punch knock outs. Kevin Randleman a good fighter? Okay. Also the angles that Rampage were throwing were not going to finish anyone.
Yes he took a lot of punches. I will not deny that. But he did not take the punches that were at the right angle to get taken down. You do realize the concept of a chin is overused. Anyone hit with a considerable amount of force at the right angle will go down. A great striker would avoid getting hit altogether.
That is what I am referring to. The hits from Rashad, Jardine, and Franklin were clean. A prime Liddell would have fallen as well. They were right on the button. You are overrating him.
What a disappointing end. I feel like I got something stolen from me. I can't help but wonder what would have happened had the leg not broke. Weidman is going to have his hands full against Belfort.
The Rousey fight was a great one. She's nuts and I don't care for her personally but she's fun to watch fight and has incredible skill.
I'm sad Barnett lost. Browne vs Werdum should be a good one.
That is what I am referring to. The hits from Rashad, Jardine, and Franklin were clean. A prime Liddell would have fallen as well. They were right on the button. You are overrating him.
I'd say you are underrating him. The shot he took from Rashad was the exception, that one was like a rocket. But the ones that Jardine and Franklin hit him with wouldn't have phased him in his early years. Go watch his early fights again, he gets hit a lot and just powers through it.
Liddell really isn't the point though, I just mentioned him as an example because I'm more familiar with him than a lot of others lost their "chin" as they got older. I have to disagree with your statement about the concept of a chin. Some fighters can take harder shots than others and there's no arguing that. It has to do with the shape of their jaw and chin, the thickness of their neck and shoulders...things like that (and how much weight they cut, fighters that are dehydrated are easier to KO). It's not as simple as "shot to the button KO's anyone". Also that "button" can get worn out over time. It happens in boxing as well. Fighters get old, take too many shots and start getting KO'd by shots that they wouldn't have earlier in their careers, and that's what happened with Liddell.
Good grief that fight did not end the way I thought. I first thought that Weidman hit Silva with a very short punch or something to knock him out as Silva went for the kick. After watching a little more and listening to them talk about a broken leg, I was just confused.
Then the slow motion replay's, and different angles. I swear I felt pain in my legs. /shudders
I was hoping for a longer bout, but hey. what can you do.
Looks like we shouldn't be so quick to count Silva out just yet. His surgeon said he could start training again in six to nine months and it appears that's exactly what he plans to do. Source.
I saw a picture of Silva and decided not to watch the video. I am squeamish to two things, watching someones nose get chiseled in a rhinoplasty and anything breaking from the knee down.
I did see Rousey punish Tate with those judo throws. Good lord.
Oh. My. Gawd. I hadn't known about Silva till just now...
That really suks... hope its not a lifelong problem for him, even if he doesn't return.
That's a terrible break, in both ways...

I don't really know about that one. I'd say Weidman might be pretty good to take it because we haven't seen how Vitor is going to perform since they banned TRT.
The more questionable thing I saw was that Jones is injured and the DC fight is off. The replacement for that PPV is Mighty Mouse vs Cariaso. How is that in any way a headlining fight for a PPV?
Yeah, Jones has a torn meniscus (i think) and is having surgery. The fight was postponed until early January. Kind of getting ridiculous how you have 8 champs and only two of them seem to manage fighting more than twice a year (Mighty Mouse and Rousey). A bunch of the champs are lucky to get a single fight in each year. It really sucks because there are a ton of intriguing matchups that just go away because of champion inactivity.
I'm definitely a little worried about what a TRT-less Vitor is gonna look like. I mean he's already looking a bit smaller. I did see an interview on the MMA hour a few weeks ago though where Vitor flexed his bicep for a few seconds and still looked crazy jacked so there's that. I'm honestly hoping he shows up looking like a beast still and starches Weidman. Weidman is a monster no doubt but no one has finishing ability like Belfort does. There were a few times in the Machida match, where Machida had Weidman rocked but didn't follow up.. You know Vitor is gonna follow up if he gets the chance.
Jones getting injured definitely sucks.. that was a pretty interesting fight. I'm sure the UFC brass is pretty bummed out about this too though. There was so much hype for that fight. That's a lot of lost revenue.

Not just the Tendo King, the power of the Galactic Leyline surpasses that of the Tempa Emperor, No!, It's magnificent power is even greater than that!
You know, I'm going to rant a bit about Ben Askren. Mainly because I saw an article in which he talks about how he thinks he's the best fighter.
I'm going to preface this by saying that Ben Askren isn't a bad fighter, but man I am so sick of hearing how some reporters/fans/Ben seem to give him way, way too much credit and I'm not sure I understand why.
He has never taken on so much as even a former top 10 welterweight. He was the bellator champ until he was released, but that doesn't really count for much imho because there really isn't anyone there at welterweight. Most of the people he's fought are about as experienced as he is, which is to say, they aren't very experienced. So yeah, he was better than everyone at bellator, but I don't think that says much.
He's moved on to One FC and still it's the same story there too imho.
Dana White, kind of extended an Olive branch to him and he basically just scoffed and basically just said, 'I don't need the UFC, I think I'm the best'
Well Ben, I think you're wrong. You DO need the UFC. Now I'm not saying the UFC is MMA, it's not. But the fact is, most of the best fighters in the world fight in the UFC and especially so in the welterweight division. Currently as it stands right now, there is no one outside of the UFC welterweight division that I would consider a top notch fighter.
I'm not sure why Ben or anyone would think that he's in worthy of a top 10 discussion in the welterweight division, let alone a title challenger.
He just really grinds my gears because for a guy that's so full of himself he really hasn't proved himself at all. Anyway, that's my rant.
I hope he wins as well. I'd like to see him remain near the top of the heap at HW.
I hope Tate slaps her to the ground and proceeds to pound the attitude out of her.

Weidman however, did show that he could not only hang, but also control an all time great in the Spider. Congrats to both of them.
Edit: Thanks for the pic, ThaDeceptikon. I am still in shock over his broken leg. Hope he recovers quickly.
Edit #2: Just had to post this gif of the next MW #1 contender:
"Serious question, why are the people in the mtgsal thread so ****ing stupid?"
What Magic Color are You, MORON ?
Expected recovery time on an injury like that is 12-18 months.....putting Silva @ approx 40 years old before he'd be ready to train again
What a poor way to end the fight.
