I generally don't enjoy sweeps as they don't create any suspense and shorten the post season experience. On the other hand I do like to see a team (especially my favorite team) perform at such a high level. The Giants saved their best stuff for the last 7 games of the post season, well done.
The best moment of the WS was the final pitch that won the WS for the Giants.
The batter never saw the fastball going down the middle of the plate. Awesome. Just awesome. That and Posey jumping up before the umpire called the strike.
After all the incredibly exciting playoff series-es, the baseball season kinda ended in a big THUD!
I mean, the WS wasn't bad at all; aside from game one, it actually was a really compelling series. It was just disappointing, I guess. After most of the playoffs going to game five or seven, to have the Series end in a sweep was... I dunno know... just kind of a "wow, so that is that" kinda thing.
That said, after the first game I had a foreboding feeling it wouldn't end well for Detroit. It seems to be true = get your groove on in late August and in September, and then BAM! the title is yours. The five (six?) day layoff for Det. helped SanFran, me thinks. I'm not sure but I think it was on Mike & Mike where I heard that 4 of the last 6 WS losers were the teams that had the longest wait before the series began.
I'm sorry wrath...er....scotti- I was rooting for your boys from the get-go, hoping for a Midwest showdown between Cincy and Detroit.
*sigh* To use the consolation phrase I hate: "At least we can say our teams we rebeaten by the best."
(about the English language) It's kinda like a raft that was cobbled together from parts of three different boats and since then has been kept barely afloat with crude repairs every time a leak appeared.

This is exactly what the Giant have done for both titles in the last 3 years.
Starting next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see more lights out playing from other teams in AUG/SEP.
About Frox: for nearly 10 years, Frox has been helping women look good and feel great in easy-fit, mix-and-match, and work-to-weekend with just a few pieces by helping them make the right choices when it comes to clothing and accessories.
Well... I can't wait for the comparison shot of Dolphins Stadium last year when perhaps 300 people were in the stadium to the upcoming year when perhaps the same number of fans show up in their new stadium.
The worst thing about the Marlins deal is that they really didn't get that much young talent in return. Also, based on his Twitter feed, Mike Stanton is less than happy about the deal.

Miami management is criminally bad.
Not to mention they have that awful statue in the outfield. Maybe it's a curse, something that controls the management into making horrible decisions?
And yeah, I thought the Giancarlo tweet was pretty funny.

This whole trade did not shock me at all TBH. The marlins are well known for a fire sale every 3-5 years. They did it back in '03 and again in '08 IIRC. It's just how they run the franchise down there.

I know they have a history of unloading, but it still didn't surprise you a little? I mean, going from a hyped, revamped team with a series on Showtime to trading/firing every person they signed to multi-year deals like a year ago after a disappointing season is a little insane, even by Marlins management standards.

The actual fact they did it was no surprise at all (I was more shocked when they made the signings.) What is shock me was the team they managed to work a deal with. I did not see the Jays as a potential buyer of so much. I was figuring it would be a LA, Philly or, god forbid, the Yankees.
Edit: To further explain, the Marlins, despite their locale, is still a small market team. They had no shot of supporting any of those players unless they had a deep run into the playoffs. Since that did not happen, they had to unload.
Well now the Marlins have a real problem on their hands as who in their right mind would want to even play for the Marlins now. The Marlins are one of the few teams, and might be the only team in MLB, which refuses to issue no-trade clauses of any kind in contracts. This was the reason Albert Pujols refused to consider the Marlins as he did not want to be just shipped off to some team for spare parts and have no control over which team he played for. As that was the last contract he was ever going to sign as a player, who can blame him.
The problems with the Marlins also can be laid squarely at the feet of their owner, who has now run two franchises into the ground: The Montreal Expos and now the Marlins. The Expos were the same way, shipping their stars out for absolute crap.
Personally I do not really mind too much, as an Atlanta Braves fan it means that the NL East will continue to be a 4 team division, as Jeffery Loria continues to make it far too easy to be competitive. The Marlins will be lucky to avoid 100 losses next year, and honestly, could even challenge for the worst record in major league history. They have 2 major league calibur hitters, and perhaps Logan Morrison if the owner allows him to play outside of AAA.
The fact is, so long as the Marlins have the same owner, no high profile player will ever sign with the Marlins ever again, even if they offer more money, because they know that they will have no control over where they go, and they would be forced to play on a losing team. Very few people will attend Marlins games, not that the new stadium helped much, the Marlins only managed two sellouts all year. Even if the Marlins by some miracle manage another playoff run, why would fans invest in going to the game, the owner is just going to blow it up again.
It would appear RA Dickey is also going to Toronto...
Toronto might be the team to beat. Hard to say though. People said this about Miami and we all know how that turned out, and this is, well, basically the Miami Blue Jays.
I expect Toronto to win the East, but R.A. will not have nearly as good of a year as he did in 2012.

agreed, but I expect a solid year from him though. The Jays ATM look like a solid team, the starting rotation looks good and moving Drabek and Happ from the rotation to the pen might pay off.
The East looks weaker than it has in past season, primarily the NY Yankees.

I can't believe no one got elected. I really hate the HOF voting process -- it's ridiculous. I thought for sure Biggio would have gotten in today, if no one else. It is so ridiculously hard to get into the Baseball HOF compared to other sports. Ugh.

Hopefully they revamp it, apparently there were several guys who voted for no one and in general the voters are out of touch old school writers who have really strange and varying standards considering who's already in the hall. A bunch of them are taking the moral high ground, ignoring that steroids were not illegal or even banned by baseball when most of these guys were doing them, as well as not voting for guys when even a rumor of them using PEDs springs up, and of course ignoring the fact that the Hall of Fame is full of cheaters and PED users already. And I agree with Biggio, he has no connection to PEDs at all, but since these writers are so far up their own asses they cannot elect a surefire guy who has no controversy around him.

I think it's dumb how rumors about PEDs affect their voting. Obviously Sosa and Clemens and Bonds juiced whether they want to lie about it or not, but I don't think Bagwell did. But rumors of him doing it will probably kill his chances.
Do you want Sosa, Clemens, and Bonds in the Hall of Fame? I was at the Hall of Fame in July and I really don't remember there being any cheaters in the Hall.

I think Clemens and Bonds should be since they are among the best players ever, Sosa is a bit of a toss-up as he had an extremely impressive peak but was not very impressive outside of that and its likely that he would've been nowhere near the player he was w/o PEDs (Bonds and Clemens were already clear Hall of Famers, but used PEDs to extend their careers). As for the "cheaters" several pitchers in the HoF doctored balls or threw spitballs after they were banned (Gaylord Perry and Joe Niekro being among the most well known). For several decades amphetamines ("greenies") were found throughout major league clubhouses much like PEDs would be years later and they provided significant performance advantages. Not to mention stealing signs like the 51 Giants and bat corking. If the PED scandal had slipped by like greenies did, there is no doubt all of these guys would be in easily, but since PEDs got baseball a huge amount of negative press, the writers feel that it is their right to punish them even though those said writers often helped to cover up the PED use in the first place.
I think the Baseball Tonight crew summed it up pretty well today. To paraphrase their thoughts, the PED era is a 20-30 year history of the league, and to simply shun this crop of players from the HOF would be to ignore this entire period of baseball -- voters still have an obligation to select the best players from that period into the Hall.
I agree with the above, that Bonds and Clemens should and will be HOFers someday, once the writers' mentality catches up with that of the players. I'm on the fence about McGwire, because he wasn't exactly as complete or as consistent a player that Bonds was during his career, though I realize that's a pretty high standard. Likewise, Sosa was pretty mediocre outside of his big 4-5 years, so I'm not sure he'll get the votes over other big names who are becoming eligible the next few years. Biggio will get in next year, and I imagine Bagwell will get in eventually, though next year brings in names like Maddux, Glavine, and Thomas. I'm sad my favorite player growing up, Dale Murphy, didn't make it in on his last year of eligibility...but if he didn't make it in 10-12 years ago, he wasn't going to get in now. 5-6 solid years in the '80s isn't going to cut it.

I agree whole heatedly about bonds, Sosa I'm a little more eh on his overall ability. Also the MLB certainly didn't hate the publicity of the HR chases of Bonds McGuire and Sosa. If anyone should feel a little shame or needs some more blame it would IMO be the league for not stepping in earlier. I'm supprised Selig hasn't felt more heat for the whole situation.
As the HoF voted go I'm mad jack Morris didn't make it yet as we'll. one of the best in the eighties and early nineties and perhaps the single best performance of a pitcher in a World Series game against a great braves team in 91.
For shame!
