But the bottom line is still that Bonds and Clemens cheated, because they reached a level of playing that wouldn't have been fully achievable without their PEDs throughout basically their entire careers. PEDs are a much worse problem than those other things you mentioned, at least in my opinion and that of the Voters. They genetically modified their bodies to achieve statistics that otherwise would have been unattainable. They did it to put themselves at the level (or beyond that) of past Hall of Famers, and lied about it. That's just not cool to commend Bonds and Clemens for cheating in that way. They wouldn't be the greatest hitter and pitcher ever if it wasn't for their PED usage. How can you commend them for that?

I agree whole heatedly about bonds, Sosa I'm a little more eh on his overall ability. Also the MLB certainly didn't hate the publicity of the HR chases of Bonds McGuire and Sosa. If anyone should feel a little shame or needs some more blame it would IMO be the league for not stepping in earlier. I'm supprised Selig hasn't felt more heat for the whole situation.
As the HoF voted go I'm mad jack Morris didn't make it yet as we'll. one of the best in the eighties and early nineties and perhaps the single best performance of a pitcher in a World Series game against a great braves team in 91.
For shame!
I feel exactly the same about Jack Morris. His ERA is not the prettiest, but the guy was still a great pitcher worthy of the HOF

Not really sure why PEDs are so much worse than amphetamines, other than the fact that people outside of baseball decided to be angry about their use. Amphetamines can give a huge performance boost to baseball players. Who's to say players like Willie Mays and Micky Mantle would be all time greats without amphetamines? It is unequal treatment, and as said before that is due to baseball being raked over the coals due to the PED scandal and the writers wanting to ignore the whole era, even though the big home run years are what brought baseball back from the brink following the strike.
I watched the Tigers Opening Game because I'm from Detroit.
I also just watched some of a Rangers Game because I'm in Japan, we're on End of the School Year Break at the school I teach at so there's nothing to do, and it was actually broadcast on TV because everyone here is insane about Yu Darvish and Ichiro. My co-workers were cracking up at watching fans flip out over Darvish not completing the perfect game.
The Blue Jays lost their season opener to Cleveland, did't see the whole game though
I watched 90 percent of the game. Jay's catcher couldn't handle the knuckle from Dickey, led to 3 passed balls, 2 of which led to the Tribe's first two runs. Masterson was pretty shaky early on, but after a fantastic defensive play from Asdrubal Cabrera to turn a double play with bases loaded and no outs in the 3rd, he settled in and retired the next 11 Jay's. Indian's pen looked pretty good, 3 innings, 1 hit, no walks from a combination of Smith, Pestano, and Perez.
I will say that I had chills in the ninth when Perez came to the mound with it being 4-1...exactly like last year, and we know what happened then.
Excited for the season, though my fantasy starters have all gotten rocked pretty much.
Well, the Mets won their opener 11-2 vs. San Diego. The Mets are about 34-10 on opening day in the past 44 years, something crazy like that. Probably because they have had historically good pitching at the front of their rotations: Seaver, Gooden, etc. Offense on the other hand? Not so much.
They will struggle this season for sure, but I'm excited to see the debuts of Travis d'Arnaud and Zack Wheeler.
this will be my first season watching baseball, so I'm not too knowledgeable on the sport, so I hope that will be forgiven.
I enjoyed what I saw of the game, despite the Blue Jays being terrible
Don't worry... 161 games left in the season and the Blue Jays are a really good team. They brought in a lot of good players this off-season. If you waited until now to get into the Blue Jays then you couldn't have picked a better year! I'm jealous.

Oh man, I just heard about that! He went 8 2/3 perfect innings? Ouch!!!
the only issue with getting into them now is that I look sorta like a bandwagon fan but I was meaning to start watching last year, just never found the time
How about them Red Sox. I will admit I am a fair-weather fan when it comes to the Red Sox. After that collapse at the end of '11 and the dismal circus of a season in '12 I had tuned them out. I didn't watch a full game last year, and if they were topic of discussion on local talk radio I turned it off. It was so hard to like the team in 2011-2012, but for some reason (and it's not just the winning) this team is easier to root for. A nice mix of young players and veterans that remind me of the "Dirt Dog" days of 2003-2004. The Bill Mueller, Todd Walker, Mark Bellhorn, Trot Nixon, and Kevin Millar of yester-year are turning into Mike Napoli, Johnny Gomes, Daniel Nava, Shane Victorino, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia of today. All I know is this year's pitching staff is insane! I don't know if they can keep it up, but guys like Uehara make this team addictive to watch when he gives up a run to bring a game from a two-run lead to only a one-run lead but still runs to the dugout and enthusiastically high-fives everyone. That's the kind of passion and aforementioned blue-collar team us new Englander's love to root for.
According to Back to the Future II the Chicago Cubs win the 2015 World Series against the Miami Marlins except that matchup would be impossible seeing as how the Cubs and the Marlins are in the same league division. The Cubs recently added Jon Lester to their 2015 Season Roster while they also traded for catcher Miguel Montero who just so happens to have the same initials as Marty McFly with Cubs Head Manager Joe Maddon bearing a striking resemblance to Doc Brown, coincidence? Perhaps not.

heh heh heh. I read that article last week as well, and I do like that t-shirt (Dear Santa,...).
I was, and still kinda am, a bit of a Cubs fan...moreso back in the late 80's, early 90's (the Ryne Sandberg, Hawk, Shauwn Dunsten, Mark Grace days...)
Even with Epstein as the GM,Maddon at the helm, and the additions of Lester, its still hard to consider the Cubs a legitimate playoff contender...at least for this year.
In other baseball news, apparently Miami wasn't lying when they claimed they were going to surround Stanton with more talent after signing him to yet another absurd, long-term deal which is all the rage in the MLB the last few years.
As if Detroit needed any more talent...
And the Dodgers? What the hell? Did they really just trade like, half their team and create an entirely different team and hope it will work?
Interesting stuff, to say the least. I don't remember the GM meetings producing this much flurry of activity in a while.

This year's winter meetings have been crazy. The Reds were super aggressive selling two of their top starters in order to clear up payroll. The NL Central is going to be even tighter if the Cubs and the Reds can get their act together.

One of these day I have to get myself organizized.
Dude was a STUD pitcher. A strike out machine and a perennial Cy Young candidate. One of the five best pitchers in the NL and arguably one of the five best in all of baseball. So young into a potential HoF career. Only 24, four years in the league.
I'm indifferent on my like/dislike of the Marlins, but as a fan of the game... truly a great talent lost so suddenly.
And everything I've been hearing on ESPN and the MLB network = the kid was decent and just loved the game and the country.

caught the second half of the game, they played pretty well
Dickey left the game in the sixth though
7-11 not a good enough start.

didn't get to watch either of the games against the Yankees but the scored looked pretty bad.
what went wrong in both games?
pitching to be honest. When pitching is decent the offense isn't quite there
They lost in baltimore tonight, the stinger was Bonafacio striking out with the bases loaded
