Bernier, Penner/Stoll, Voinov/Parse/Loktionov might get it done
Surely you jest. CBJ would be completely moronic to accept such a package. I would think they start with either a first and/or doughty, and then maybe a guy like Richards.

Not at all. Richards has to much tread off the tires and too long a contract. Penner gives CLB some size and an expiring contract. Doughty is certainly an option but IMO Voinov is going to be better in the long run. Typically rebuilding teams want picks and prospects. Penner would basically be a salary dump throw in. But if youre talking about throwing in a first (for a guy I really like but who has statistically had a career low year) as well then Mason probably has to come LA's way as well.

CBJ for sure wants a first, that is fairly typical for a player of this calibur. For reference, see the recent Kovalchuk deal. I really don't think that moving Nash has anything to do with lowering the cap for CBJ, they are just doing it to rebuild the team with no hopes of the playoffs. No reason for them to worry about incoming salaries at all. As for Richards, since when is a 27 year old top centre considered as having 'too much tread off the tires'? Does that mean that Parise is also too old to bother with?

Kovalchuk cost NJ Oduya, Bergfors, Cormier and a first. Hardly equal to what CLB would be getting imo.
In regard to Richards, if I recall correctly, hasnt he had head trauma issues in the past? And then there is his "lifestyle" which PHI called in to question. He also has 8 years left on his deal.....not something a rebuilding team is usually looking for. Dont get me wrong, Richards is a good player, but not a guy Id be looking to acquire long term
hopefully I don't get infracted for bumping an old thread but I thought I'd get people's playoff predictions now that the regular season is over.
here are mine:
EAST:
New York Rangers over Ottawa Senators
Boston Bruins over Washington Capitals (hope I'm wrong on this one, as a habs fan).
New Jersey Devils over Florida Panthers
Pittsburgh Penguins over Philadelphia Flyers (tough call for me as both teams are pretty good in my opinion)
WEST:
Vancouver Canucks over Los Angeles Kings (don't like either team so hopefully they both fall out early).
St Louis Blues over San Jose Sharks (hope I'm wrong on this one since the Sharks are the team I'm cheering for since the habs didn't make it).
Chicago Blackhawks over Phoenix Coyotes.
Detroit Red Wings over the Nashville Predators (another tough call for me as both team are pretty good).

Pens/Flyers, Nucks/Kings and Wings/Preds will all be 6 or 7 game series and could go either way.
I think Blackhawks/Coyotes will go the other way, Coyotes are a strong defensive team with a great goalie that can exploit that weakness for the Blackhawks, especially if they're without a real center (Toews and/or Bolland).
Quick look at the Wild offseason:
They're going all in on Parise and Suter; re-sign some 4th liners and Dmen that are Free Agents and try to figure out what to do with the young talent.
Big question: Can they get Parise and/or Suter? That result changes their view on re-signing Josh Harding. If they have cap space for him, they'll likely trade Harding or Backstrom during the 12/13 campaign.
Last question: where do all the kids end up going? They've got a bunch of kids ready to jump into the fray next year. My predictions?
Mikael Granlund to the NHL. Charlie Coyle and Zack Phillips, Jason Zucker and Brett Bulmer are on the top lines in Houston (AHL) and are the next men in if a Top 6 forward goes down again, Jonas Brodin and Johan Larsson both leave Sweden and join Houston. Erik Haula probably stays in college for one more season. The Wild will draft 7th and who knows what that brings at this point.

do you mind explaining your reasoning? (I don't mean to come across rude or anything)
Styles make fights as they say. OTT managed a 3-1 season record vs NY, WSH a 3-1 record vs BOS. And while the regular season isnt the end all be all, it still shows that both teams are more than capable of pulling off an upset. Then there's the fact that Lundqvist hasnt had the best postseason outings and the PP is a disaster.
NY > OTT in 6
BOS > WSH in 5
NJ > FLA in 6
PIT > PHI in 7
West:
VAN > LA in 5
Bobby Lu is a good goalie as long as he doesn't have opposing players in his head, and the only one who can do that on the Kings is Jedi Master Quick. But luckily for Bobby Lu he is all the way on the other side of the ice.
STL > SJ in 6
St. Louis is young and inexperienced, but has two great goaltenders. Plus unlike the underwhelming Sharks this season I have this strange feeling Ken Hitchcock is going to will the Blue through the first round whether they like it or not.
NSH > DET in 7
Personally I am hoping the Joe falls apart, but since I have to make an actual prediction, I am taking the Preds in 7. This is mostly because Barry Trotz when he sold his neck for players who could play his system included an option to sell one of his jowls for home ice in a playoff series against Detroit. Which looking at what is the Red Wings on the road, might've been a good option to have.
CHI > PHX in 6
It's Star Power vs. Mike Smith and whatever is left of Shane Doan. Without their cap'n and a rotating list of injured players the Hawks have still found ways to win and ways to solve some of the best goalies in the league. I don't think Pheonix has the firepower to keep up with the Hawks since Crawford has looked like a true starting goaltender again.

As a SJ fan, I might be a bit biased but STL has always struck me as inconsistent.
EDIT:
I'm the other way for SJ, even though I like them, they've **** the bed so hard lately that I'm not sure if they can go far.
They have had a disappointing season overall, but being 7th isn't that bad. I think they could pull it off vs. St. Louis. SJ is experienced in the playoffs, regular season is nothing like the playoffs.
What wild start to the playoffs. There have been probably as many overtimes as games so far (if you include all the double OT).
Some notes (which will only include games I watched):
1. The Panthers outside of the first period look a lot more dangerous than I think anybody thought they would.
2. So how about Shae Weber and planting faces. I was shocked there was no suspension.
3. The officiating for the two Blackhawks-Pheonix game has been bad with blown calls or wrong calls going both ways. Overall it is just sloppy. It's just unfortunate the bad officiating has hurt the Blackhawks a lot more.
4. So how about Seabrook basically willing the Blackhawks into OT in both games. In a related note, Coyotes lost as soon as they made Brandon Bollig look like a sharpshooter.
5. The Shaw charge on Mike Smith I don't think will draw a suspension. It wasn't malicious and looked unintentional. Also how the hell was Mike Smith not taken out of the game when he was down on the ice for three or four minutes. Either Mike Smith was diving for an ejection or this was a blown concussion test by the Coyote's trainers.
looks like Edmonton is picking first overall again for the third time in a row, with my habs getting the third pick.
guess I won't complain about them getting third pick, after all it's the only good thing about this garbage season
I didn't realize mtgs had a sports thread till now...
Yeah, EDM really lucked out - should continue drafting the BPA rather than by position of need. Their forward depth is going to be INSANE with all the youngsters: Yakupov, Hall, RNH, MPS, Omark, and of course Eberle. They are so well positioned capwise (except Horcoff's $5.5 M cap hit) with all the youngsters still RFAs going into their prime.
As for the Habs, listen, you guys have Carey ****ing Price. He's a proven winner, and he's faced and has overcome so much adversity at such a young age. Sure they have wasted cap space (Gomez...), but if the Habs can just squeak into the playoffs and play solid team defense, I think Price can steal some rounds.
As for the playoffs - love the intensity. Looks like teams are getting old school nasty.
Edit: Man, Fleury looks like crap today. He has to be playing with an injury.
At what price though? CBJ is asking for Fort Knox for him, so I think it would be a dumb move for LA.
