Hey all you F1 fans out there. Quite an amazing qualifying no? Lewis Hamilton 2012 FIA F1 World Champion!!! (ok so it's kind of early)
Spoiler Alert!!!
1m24.9 Pole for Lewis Hamilton. What a lap. I knew the moment he did it and was .7 up on Vettel at the time that he did it right there.
Great job by Button as well. He came so close to pole and even said on the radio he lost a tenth on turn 14.
Perhaps story of all qualifying is Grosjean only 0.4 off the pace. Quite something considering his break from F1 and if I am correct he as also never raced at Albert Park.
Other big stories have got to the the lack of pace from the Red Bulls. Nice to see Webber out qualify Vettel at his home GP.
Ferrari are a long way off the pace it seems. Even if Alonzo didn't go off, and I won't even go into the implications of that yet, he must still be a second off the pace. Massa was a joke. His carrier is done. If he maintains results like this I imagine he will not even finish this season.
Decent results from Mercedes yet I am slightly disappointed. I would like to see them win a few races this year. Not to sure that will happen bar something drastic happening.
Perhaps the biggest story of all is the fact that the top 8 drivers from 5 different teams were within 1.0 of each other. Last year the only the top 3 drivers were within 1.0 and that was only from two teams. 7 teams in total made it into Q3.
My personal biggest disappointment was from Force India though. Good job making Q3 for Hulkenberg but I was hoping for more from them as they are my favourite team.
I for one am more excited about this season than ever. Lets just hope that McLaren don't run away with it to badly.
Indeed I may have the wrong McLaren driver. Jensen button just knows how to use the Perelli rubber better. Lewis Hamilton is just my favourite driver. I love his overtaking and aggressive style.
Safety car aside I believe Hamilton's inability to make his Perrelli tires last prevented any possiblibility of him getting second. At one point after the safety car Hamilton was right up on Vettel for close to 6 laps. That was his chance to pass there and was unable to make the move. That killed his rubber and from that point on, with the fact the Vettel had the newer tires, he was done. Vettel is probably 3rd on the grid IMO when it comes to saving his rubber. Button is the best with Perez second.
Other big news of the race has to be the race pace of the teams that did so poorly in qualifying and to an extent vice-versa. Red Bull and Ferrari qualified quite poorly yet in Red Bull's case they were matching the pace of the McLaren drivers the whole race. Ferrari surprised me as well with their race pace. My favourite come from behind this race was Perez. Last place grid slot to 8th. Honourable mention to Ricciardo for his 9th place after falling back to last on the first lap after avoiding the 1st turn chaos. His 1st F1 race as well.
Disappointing moments would be Maldonado crashing on the ultimate lap. I would have loved to have seen him pass Alonso but that didn't look possible. Also really surprised by the lack of race pace from Mercedes. I expect better from Rosberg and we will never know if Schumi would have floundered as well.
