Rugby is basically a far superior version of American football that has better rules, more action and the guys playing it are not wussy enough to need body armour
I used to play scrum half for my school team for several years, up untill I had someones boot studs go through my hand >< hurt like crazy and left the tendon sore for ages.
Still watch the 6 nations occasionally but England has really let thmselves go rugby-wise recently.
I remember being at an EnglandvIreland match many moons ago when I got to meet Will Carling.
I'm happy I'm not the only one who thinks that Rugby is far superior than football lol.
I play strong side Flanker for my university team and i have tickets to the world cup in the fall. i've been playing since I was ten years old, but as an american it was league back then and I had to join a regional U-17 Club to do some Union prior to college. I rucking love rugby, I have the All-Blacks feather tattooed on my left shoulder as I have dislocated it three or four times playing. If you're in america, try watchin spike tv on late night weekends, they have been showing it. Also Universal Sports(an NBC subsidiary) covers 6 nations and also some random sissy girl league play.
Australia just lost to Ireland, wow that was an intense match. No tries, all were penalty or field goals! Glad I'm staying away from the CBD, when I left at 3:15pm Britomart was already filling up with people.

tl;dr Major upset, amazing game.
Yeah pretty sad! And you live in NZ! The all blacks are a great team!
Also, I don't think anyone is too lazy to read 2 lines....
I play 8 for my University, and love the sport. I always got penalized for being to physical in soccer, so when i got to college my coach told me rugby was the right choice

I hold the believe that rugby and its descendants and variations are vestiges of British imperialism.
I don't like anything much but can, will, and do watch rugby union and may be found in bars as a closet supporter of the All Blacks, Irish, and, sometimes, the British and Irish Lions.
I also laugh my arse off when I watch Americans play and wonder why it's played (sure, there's a market for growth but the Eagles aren't New Zealand or the Republic of South Africa). Apparently, Cali is the only state that plays it significantly, or even at all (perhaps I exaggerate), largely due to the Brits that emigrated there and carried the tradition with them (as opposed to the East Coasters who threw off the yoke of the Empire).

Good sport. If played well it can be very entertaining. Nothing quite like test rugby for two hours of excitement. I mean I will never forget some of the classic Springbok vs All Blacks encounters.
Like in 2004 in Christchurch where Doug Howlett broke South African hearts with his try in the 82th minute to deny SA a historic victory. Or in the same year in Johannesburg where Marius Joubert scored a hat trick against SA to help win us the title. Or in 2005 when Jean De Villiers scored a intercept try to win us a great victory against a otherwise unbeaten All Black Team.
2008 was another great encounter where Pieter De Villiers became the first Springbok coach to win test rugby in New Zealand for 10 long years. I will never forget Ricky Januarie's break up the middle and his chip-and-chase to score the match winning try.
2009 was another great year where we won the tri nations title for just the third time. The two wins against the All Blacks in SA was immense while the win in Hamilton was epic. Another game won by a intercept try by Jean De Villiers
The French have a saying that whenever France play a test every Frenchman's masculinity is on the line. I feel the same way when my teams play.
It is not as big as soccer, but it does not half the amount of pissy BS soccer has. Rugby players are generally more well behaved than soccer players. I have never heard a rugby player tell his wife that he makes the money and if she does not like she can take a hike.
I used to play it a bit back in high school and wish it was on tv more.
if anyone knows anyone North American channels that aired it, that would be great

It is the most watched sport here in Aus (Rugby League not Union) and I quite enjoy it.
Much more hardcore than NFL.
LOL
