I finally read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It didn't suck. Eponymous character was engaging. Large number of subplots kept in the air deftly. Ending was predictable, but chain of investigation leading up to it was nicely detailed and believable. Some uneven characterization. Prose style left a bit to be desired. All in all, a competent mystery-thriller; I'll probably read the other two sometime. But I just don't get why it's garnered all the attention and sales numbers that it has. I don't see anything new or extraordinary about it. Am I missing something here?
