Totally agree that legendaries are expensive. Even if you play every day, you need almost a month's worth of daily rewards in Silver to buy one legendary, which can be too much. So yeah, most likely you'll just build a modest Unheroic deck or one with a few Heroics you get from your starter decks. It helps that at least you have Ferocious Roar, which is a pretty good heroic.
Personally, if you want one or two legendaies to quickly power up your decks, I'd like to suggest go Tempys and make Scorchmane Dragon. He becomes pretty insane after the boost he got the last time. But it's up to you anyway in the end
And indeed, limited is rather punishing. It's probably better that you learn first about how to play limited (I'm sure there's plenty of video tutorials on this out there), because a week's worth of tickets gone in a limited gone bad HURTS. That, and if you're a slight veteran, expect to get pelted with strong decks in PvP even though your card pool is still rather crappy...
And money grab? Well, a few of their features do require money to get (I applaud their comedic alt arts, for one), but otherwise, I've been playing the game ever since the launch of the Open Beta (that's almost a year ago) and I have yet to spend a single dollar. And while my decks may not be tournament-tier, my PvP record is still relatively good thanks to all the cards I've managed to amass all that time.
@Arminion:
Haha, totally agreed indeed. So far I've only managed to make one each of the Forgeborns, and then I'm near penniless again As for the new cards, well, I think I can agree the Symbiote-wannabe is cool, and the Uterra common pump spell probably can wreak significant havoc (thanks to Breakthrough), but otherwise, they don't strike me as impressive. Vyric's stat is sort of unimpressive, Everflame Mystic's level 2 and 3 may get wasted if you don't play Allo-Temp spell-heavy deck, And the Uterra sapling breeder is too random... The Armor guy looks pretty decent though; maybe I'll make a deck with Vault Blockade, Oerian Battle Droid and Scrapforge coupled with that guy for field-wipe fun Or just stick to Uranti Warlord
I played Solforge for about a month and was very disappointed after a while. Its just not a very fun game and I felt it to be extremely boring actually. Theres not many choices to be made in the game and everything feels so forced which is why its not very fun to play. Your forced to attack, your forced to discard and draw a new hand, your forced to play stuff, your forced to use all cards you draft with, etc. It feels very auto-pilot. Theres also only 4 different types of archtypes you can pick from and can only choose 2 of them to make a deck out of.
The game just feels way too limiting and monotonous in general. All your doing in a game is trying to trade guys until your opponent is out of guys or out of life. The strategy of the game feels pretty narrow. Its either your spamming guys, blowing up guys, or pumping your guys. Everything is combat, but thats not exactly the problem. The problem is that the combat is very straight forward and never too interesting. You cant interact with your opponent on their turn either, which I personally do not like games to where you cant be in control a majority of the time. Plus this makes games very unexciting when its easy to see how things just play out.
Im not feeling this game at all. I dont see it how this game can get any better and feel that the design in general is somewhat busted. The level system in the game is also kind of busted since it makes your draws way too important. I dont hate this game but I definitely would not play it ever again most likely. The concept is original, but its just not good really. I felt that other TCGs that even have a worse rep like Pokemon or Yugioh have a bit more depth, complexity and were more fun a few decades ago. Its interesting since if anyone took any of the kids games of the past and made a more mature re-imaging of them, I could see them being more serious competitors over the really uninspiring new wave of online TCGs.
And I can see how this is a "Money Grab". Obviously the people who paid $0 for this game and continue to make it that way arent that demographic. The people who play this at first for free and like it enough to where they want everything or plan to be more competitive are going to spend money. Even if its only 10 bucks here and there, it adds up and is the reason why this game is in business to begin with.
Only thing I can agree with your post right now is yes, not everyone spends money on this game, but yes, there are those who do, which I personally think is fine. Some will pay with real cash, some don't, but if we're enjoying the game, who cares.
And by the way, newsflash if you still have a few waking hours left: Solforge's currently holding a special draft where the payout guarantees RotF packs. Just saying in case you want those RoTF packs I'll probably just go for one; I'm running one right now, and I can see 1-3 record already

You do get what that means though when games do that right? By making the game half free and half pay to play, its basically testing the waters to see what length people will go to in order to play the game. Its like a gigantic free sample in a way.
I just don't get how anyone finds this game geniously fun. If the creator of MTG or Brian Kibler wasnt behind this, I could not see the interest in it and I really believe that those are the only reasons why anyone is even interested to begin with. Solforge feels like a jerry rigged version of MTG with a vanilla bland taste. I get that your a fan, but it would be interesting to hear exactly why this game is remotely worth playing. I have yet to come across anyone who can really explain what is so great about solforge and why anyone would want to play this game over any other TCG on the current market.
Yeah, I guess you can say I'm rather biased in this matter seeing that I am a Solforge fan. No matter. If Solforge is just not your cup of coke, there's not much I can say to make you like it, I guess. Same as me; If from the very get go I already hate certain games to death, no matter how much people rave about it, I won't bother buying or playing them, especially not regularly (playtest is probably fine). For that last sentence, a good example for me is console FPS games: There are many FPS games out there that get rave praises from all sort of people, but I utterly hate console FPS and I just cannot like them. EVER.
But biased as this comment may be, just to let you know my personal reasons of playing this game are the mechanic (the leveling mechanic is interesting enough for me), there are some famous names behind it (Well, yeah XD), and most importantly, the game runs pretty damn fast (at least on PC; it's been too long since the last time I played this game on iPad, so I don't know how well it runs now. Last time, it was plain super slow compared to PC); I prefer if I don't have to dedicate too much time playing every day, and with Solforge, it's super possible for me to get all the daily rewards within 30 minutes, and even play half-dozen PvP games, all in less than an hour. Compare with for example Hearthstone, where completing the daily quests can take DAYS if I'm unlucky.
Anyway, personal opinion; I suspect that even if you read this, you probably won't budge No worries dude
Wow, so much hate for Solforge.
Well, I just finished the special Forgeborn draft and ended 0-4, like always. The best draft record I ever had was 2-2. I really don't understand how can some people win EVERY draft out there and "go infinite". And even then, those people still complain.
I also agree that legendary card are ridiculously expensive, especially if you are F2P player. My plan is to slowly acquire all heroics and then focus on legendaries. It will take some time (probably a decade :D), but draft can help, as well daily bonuses.
Anyhow, here are the reasons I like Solforge (compared to Magic for example):
- It's very fast
- It's very addicting (to some :D)
- No mana screw
- Four daily login bonuses
- You can buy/sell cards
- You can draft (although rarely if you suck and/or are F2P player)
- You can play against computer (I LOVE this option)
- You can build a LOT of wacky decks (my current favorite is the one where my only creature in a deck is Alloying Highlander since he gets pumped if he is the only creature on the field :P)
- You can play against multiple opponents at once
- You can play it on your tablet/smartphone
- It has some great art
- The leveling mechanic is original and interesting
- It's simple to learn but hard to master

I play Solforge daily and it's a pretty good game. The main misconception I see in this thread is game lacks depth. I completely disagree and after acquiring a 78% win rate in draft, I would argue there's an immense amount of depth and strategy.
Solforge does suffer from some serious issues, though. Mainly: level screw in draft (especially at PL3) and most the power being situated at legendary status in constructed. I also find their price structure quite greedy, but that's a personal opinion.
There's some minor issues that could cause them to lose out in the long run, such as having little to no communication with their community, lack of in-game options, no chat, no leaderboards etc..
Otherwise, its a pretty fun game. I encourage people to try it.
Seems interesting. I'm still just playing my 3 games a day and drafting on the weekend. Bought a few legendaries with my accumulated silver. The new abilities are cool. Makes me want t build a free more decks, but besides that I think they need to open the campaign that's been "coming soon" for almost a year now.

Current EDH Decks:
USakashima the Imposter: CloneTheft.dec UWIsperia, Supreme Judge: Attack Me I Dare You GBWKarador, Ghost Chieftan: ETB Recursion GBWGhave, Guru of Spores: Infinite Win GMultaani, Maro-Sorcerer: Hug Beats
I agree it's super buggy, so I'm not really playing as much as I used to.
I'm also not a big fan of the new interface (seeing the cards in your deck and discard pile). I rarely use that information, but at least now they can make cards that interact with those piles.
The new mechanics are weird to say the least. Consistent is Stoneblade's attempt to fix the variance of "level screw" that plagued so many games and we shall see how these play out.
Solbind is super weird, and even today I'm still not sure how it works exactly. Basically, if you pick a card with Solbind, a few other cards are automatically added to your deck, but they don't count as the cards in your deck. That means that your deck can now contain more than 30 cards.
I'm just a little confused of why are they using such relatively "complex" mechanics on their third set. I would expect something like this from their 20th expansion or something but not this. Not now. I still believe they could make some easier mechanics, like a version of Bushido or Cycling.

Having now played through a draft, I like the format better - feels less prone to insane runaways and more like there are ways to interact. The under-drop guys (invokers or evokers or whatever they are) go some way to alleviating the level-screw phenomenon.
So i decided to try this out and it's a cool game, but i'm wondering what to expect doing the grind. From what I can tell Gold can only be purchased, but you can get specific cards and the first set's packs with silver. What about the other sets? How does one get them without buying gold to do so?
Also how long should I grind before even being remotely tournament capable? Since i only have to play three games a day to earn the rewards, it seems more like a 30 minute game to play on a work break rather than something I can truly invest in without having to pay right away.
The game creator has been kind enough to include a few goodies for new players (or lagging players) to catch up faster than before by the way; You may notice that you get some 10-win reward in the form of a frikkin legendary chest. That was awesome
Don't know if anybody still plays this, but I picked it back up again after a slow semester. A lot of the old goodies are still playable and, while there is still a bit of legendary issues, once you get your legendaries, they generally stay good.
Unless those legendaries are Zimus or Everflame -- then they just suck.
Coming back and realizing that cards like Grimgaunt Devourer, Scorchmane, Arcflight Squadron, and Dozer are still playable is pretty nuts. Cards like that are fun -- they also reward skill and intelligent deckbuilding.
It's also great to see that they fixed Tarsus Deathweaver and a couple other of the reaniminator nonsense that was occuring. BQ pushed me out of the game but Suzy made sure I never picked it up again.
Anyway, this game is still fun and worth logging in to just get your silver reward. If I had even bothered to just get my reward before I went to bed over the past year (if you play against the computer the time necessary for all three rewards is under 10 min) I'd be sitting on a few dozen sets of legendaries now.
The past few weeks actually saw some drastic changes in the balance and games, in case you read the notices on their website. Well, let's just say the scale of changes attract plenty of varying opinions...
I really hope they'll be rolling out their so-called new client quickly enough; it has been teased since last Fall with no realization yet (they're at least kind enough to give some teasers). I like this game, and hopefully that new client can help boost it.
*sigh* Okay, as a longtime Solforge fan, I know I should've gotten used to their love of sudden updates (with only 1-2 days announcements in advance being pretty norm for client updates and card additions, for example), but I would've expected more time for the news on this
Woah... should really read the main site more often

The meta is pretty nuts right now. Leveling Killion/Alyssa seems pretty good but Growbots and, by extension, Nekrium-Ignir both have shots.
Get ready.
