I'll believe it when I'm holding my CE box in hand and have successfully logged in.
Until then still taking it with a grain of salt.
I want to believe, but this is Blizzard we're talking about here.
Actually this is the first they ever announced a "true date" they made claims like..
"Oh we are aiming for this quarter or we are trying for 2011..."
But once they pick an actual date its a done deal.
The last time they put up an actual date and then missed it was back on the original Diablo 2. Thanks to missing multiple dates with that game they stopped giving dates at all just vague generalities at best until the game is very close to completion.
For instance WoW, Starcraft 2, the WoW expansions have all hit their date once they had an actual date. If you think you heard a date before this it was never official and just speculation by silly sites like Gamestop or other random retailers.

I have a beta, and it's all in flux right now with balancing passes. I wouldn't worry about it. The way that D3 scales with weapons being the base damage of your skills which add a multiplier means that balancing in this game is a lot better than in d2.
If classes are busted up or down in this game, it's not off of their DPS. They could hotfix that kind of change if it comes up.
Interesting to note. December 6th, 1941 was the day FDR authorized the Manhattan project. On July 16th 1945 the first successful nuclear explosion happened. A time period of 1318 days.
Diablo III was announced April 1st, 2008. If the game is released on May 15th of this year (I'll believe it when I play it). And assuming They began work on Diablo III on the day they announced it (also not true) Diablo III was in development for 1,505 days.
I am currently looking at my extra Magic cards to sell to buy a new computer to play this.

Going to "LOL" when they push it back a quarter later.
Still, a date is a step in the right direction. It was starting to feel like a Valve game.
Once again you must not have paid attention to Blizzard releases lately. The only reason people think they miss dates is because they give vague quarters and years and then miss those.
They rarely if ever miss an actual date when it has a date and month and year attached.
Depending on who you ask, they had a fairly firm (but not mass announced) release for The Burning Crusade that got pushed back like a quarter as well.
I'm nitpicking and being half facetious. I've been a Blizzard fan since the days of Warcraft 1/Diablo 1. I'm well aware that they must feel quite confident that they can make this target if they're finally willing to say it out loud.
My humour is based off the fact that they've spent nearly half a decade telling players variations of "soon" and "when it's ready" that it's a fairly understandable Pavlovian response to any 'actual date' to disbelieve it.
Also, the non-zero chance it could get pushed back. It might be small, it might be tiny, it might be so marginal as to only exist in theory, but it's there.
I couldn't care less about PVP, so it not shipping doesn't bother me. I'll probably only do whatever minimal amounts I need to for baseline Standard unlocks/achievements.
I don't mind the armour, giant glowing shoulderpads and all.
I've played all of the beta classes to level 13, and enjoyed it immensely, though they have had a few patches since then.
Also, I'm not sure what you're talking about, Captain_Morgan. Battlechest? Expansion? They've admitted to at least 1 (maybe 2+) expansions being on the drawing board, but the first is probably 1-2+ years away.
I'll wait until the Battlechest is released. $60+$30 for an expansion is so not cool.
In a world where companies like Capcom lock half of the roster for Capcom X Tekken and then doll it out in DLC, I have no problem with 60 bucks for a full game and 30 for an expansion.
Yeah, but there's not even an expansion on the horizon currently. Do you mean StarCraft? I've been playing beta and am happy with it, the only thing that vexes me is the UI change (hope that gets reverted), but it's not like I can't deal with it.
1. the release date is real. you can go to battle.net and pre-order the content right now for 60 bucks. the real date of live is posted on battle.net. which is the may release date.
2. while pvp is not shipping with the game it is not going to be a separate expansion that you are going to have to pay for. it will be included at a later date no charge.

Yeah you can already pre-load the game which is a very good sign.
I am sure it will have a day one patch but you can get 99% of it on your system right now if you pre-order.

The armor system is idiotic. It looks like World of Warcraft.
