Or dark electro / aggrotech / hellectro. Whatever floats your boat.
So I could not find a thread for this genre of music, so I thought I would see if it would have any backing.
While mainly being a metalhead, this particular sort of EBM as piqued my interrest. Since it focuses on aggression, heavy distortion and often, but is not limited to, the inclusion of harsh vocals.
So if you are reading this line here and thinking: Meh... I'll pass... Don't! I can't guarantee you won't regret it, but trying something new never hurts (though maybe your ears in this case).
Also if people know some other great bands in the(a?) harsh EBM genre, please share them.

Oh nice. I've been a fan of Psyclon Nine for a good while. Sad to say that the first time I heard them was in the myspace whorespace boom, but I'm glad I heard the song Crwn Thy Frnicator. Still a favorite. I actually wanna put that album on now, thank you. haha
I'm not into the genre itself though so I'm not sure about labels, but Angerfist is another that comes to mind. Along with A7IE.
Also I tried Angerfist and A7IE, would say Angerfist didn't quite fall into my taste while A7IE requires more research before I can give an honest opinion on them, but they/him/her (no idea so far) are/is not bad.

I do have the occasional harsh EBM song in my playlists. Eden Synthetic Corps, The Retrosic and Painbastard are among my favourites. A7IE sounds interesting, need to find some more of them.
Eden Synthetic Corps is quite good from what I have heard so far, the other two also sounded pretty nice, but I liked ESC the most.
Also a few other favorites of mine are; Psyborg Corp, Suicide Commando and Incubite, though Incubite is a funny love/hate relationship, some of the stuff is great, but I often find myself laughing at how ridiculous it is... For example: Riot Trigger is great, but Glowstix, Neon and Blood is ridiculous.

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for...
I was going through some serious melt banana withdrawals a couple years ago, and found the French(?) group, Kap Bambino, which definitely scratched the itch for abrasiveness, high energy, ATR-style music I had. The album 'zero night life' is where I'd recommend starting....
@Dolono, It wasn't really what I looked for, but it sounds interresting, can't quite figure out what I my opinion about it is. Seriously, a part of my just want to take my bass and crash/smash the computer until it stops making noise and another part of me wants to keep listening... (Sorry, but I can't put it in any better way)

Might want to check into Columbine, as they are a side project of one of the members of Psyclon, although their music is pretty hard to find, sadly. I did get to see them open up for Hanzel Und Gretyl a few years ago though, and they sound a lot like Psyclon does.
Also, you can't possibly talk about Aggrotech without mentioning Combichrist, although their recent album isn't quite as harsh as some of their early ones.
Methinks you may enjoy KMFDM. Well, I do at least.

(about the English language) It's kinda like a raft that was cobbled together from parts of three different boats and since then has been kept barely afloat with crude repairs every time a leak appeared.
Columbine sounds interresting and it wasn't that hard to find their music (on youtube at least, I am sure it will be difficult when I am browsing music stores), I thought it would be near-impossible.
About Combichrist, I really feel like they are severely overrated (which is why I left them out in the first place). Sure, they make some good music, but so far I haven't heard a lot which makes me say wow. I personally feel they are lacking just a little twist of something, but that is just my opinion.

OP, I used to listen exclusively to metal and then I came across aggrotek...and now I listen to industrial music with some metal on the side lol. It's a really diverse genre.
I'm more of an industrial rock and synthpop guy now tbh, but this is what got me started. Enjoy

I think they're boring. Like, really, really super boring. I think it's because they just have too much techno in their sound, but it's a very repetitive sound. Repetition is not bad if there's something else to make up for it, but they don't do anything exciting lyrically or sonically. It's just club stomping music. And I don't club.

That was what I meant by they lacked a little something, it sounds good the first 2 minutes then you start wanting something more out of the music, but they rarely give it.

That part is like me, I encountered this genre around a year or a year an a half ago by accident while listening to black metal.
Were you listening to the Kovenant's discography by any chance? Because that is a black metal band that abruptly added industrial music to their sound.
Coincidentally, they had to change their name from the Covenant due to a trademark dispute with a synthpop group, and as synthpop and industrial are closely linked...it's kind of lol.

While I do enjoy The Kovenant and listen to Animatronic frequently on my stereo (I think it is their best), it wasn't when I listened to them I ran into aggrotech. It was when I listened to Forgotten Tomb, a depressive suicidal black metal band (yes, it is a genre), I ran into the Psyclon Nine song "Suicide Note Lullaby", since I liked the band. And from there the great exploration of aggrotech started.
Regarding The Kovenant I knew they had to change their name due to a trademark dispute, I just never bothered investigating who they violated, but yeah, it is kind of funny it is a closely related genre.

I'm a bit biased about Combichrist perhaps, because I got to see them live, and they were probably the most fan-interactive band I've ever seen. My fiance was actually filming a song on her camera, and their singer grabbed it and walked it around the stage to get close ups of their band members for her.
I've seen Hanzel und Gretyl live as well. Now, THERE'S the definition of repetitive. They seriously played one song for 20+ minutes straight. Almost ruined me on their music completely.
My fiance is more into this style of music than I am, I'll have to ask her for some recommendations and post them here later!
Revisiting this thread and listening to the ones I haven't heard of. No one has mentioned Atari Teenage Riot? Are they so mainstream that we dare not mention their name or what? A lot of these bands sound like them to me.
Atari Teenage Riot would be if they were more Atari and less teenage
Yes doing research on stuff from this thread led me to Post-Industrial, a genre that was new to me! Ambient industrial is sooo cool! Thanks to this thread I discovered Nurse with Wound and Zoviet France, they are incredible!
It doesn't completely fit the description, but it's certainly something interesting and should be mentioned regardless.
That **** is INSANE!!!! I love it. Very reminescent of Naked City (John Zorn) and Mr Bungle. Thank you for showing me that. I downloaded everything I could find by him and rocking out!
A lot of great bands have been mention thus far, which I am quite happy with, since good music is always a bliss. Lately I have been listening to quite a lot of Aesthetic Perfection, though the newer stuff is a bit wierd, I must admit that I am quite fond of some of it. Oh, and the album; A Violent Emotion, is awesome!

Depending on how out on the limb you like to go, some of those might be what you're looking for or you might close the window out in 20 seconds, these genres and projects really are a hit or miss with almost everyone into them, the divergence on likes and dislikes is always huge.

I used to be pretty big into Aggrotech, but I haven't really been able to make it out to many shows/clubs lately, and the stuff is definitely better on a dancefloor than in earbuds. Instead, I keep picking up more and more Futurepop and Synthpop stuff and the aggrotech increasingly gets filtered out of the limited space on my mp3player.
The stuff I've still got on there is:
Grendel - Harsh Generation
Suicide Commando - bits of Bind, Torture, Kill and Implements of Hell
God Module - Viscera
Aesthetic Perfection - my favorite singles
FGFC820 - Most of their stuff besides the instrumentals
Agonoize - A couple of songs
Nachtmahr - Some singles
Accessory - More than Machinery, Underbeat
Uberbyte - NFY, Five Year Plan (though FYP is less Aggrotech)
Front Line Assembly - A couple songs
Asphyxia - one or two songs
Das Ich - a couple songs
I think that's it, but I'm probably forgetting some stuff. Other things you might like: Aslan Faction, C-Lekktor, Enter and Fall. I'll probably add some other stuff later when I have the time to go through my collection.
Edit: OH! Definitely check out Heimataerde. Crusader-Industrial. They literally dress up like knights templar and sing about the crusades and stuff.
