Iggy Azalea, Pharaoh Monch, Chuck Inglish, Kool A.D., Girl Talk+Freeway
I've listened to the first half of Iggy's album, which is pretty solid. I hear the second half is a lot worse though, which is kinda unfortunate. But speaking of Female MCs, I'm pretty hyped to see legit women rappers again. Iggy got derailed on some pop ***** for a bit, got back at it though. Nikki Minaj has been back to her old "Monster," self, and I can't stop listening to leikele47 (I typed in several butchered mispellings searching for that link just now, before I decided to just punch in lekkelei47 into youtube). She's got some legit bars. Sometimes the hook structures get a bit repetitive, but sometimes it's perfect, like C&C (linked).
No, but in all seriousness, almost nothing has come out this year. There were some Kanye snippets...that immediately disappeared off the internet. The Roots have a new album out, it's not bad I guess. Mac Miller put out his "faces," mixtape, which I have mixed feelings about, but overall it's a pretty solid listen. Oh and then there's LIL B THE BASEDGOD'S HOOP LIFE MIXTAPE for the based fam. Anybody got anything else on their radar?
Just saw Sage Francis in concert last friday promoting his new alum that dropped on the third, Copper Gone. Was a crazy show and the album is probably his best yet. Here is a stream:

I think I might hate the album. I'm serious. Even as a huge fan of Sage and his whole sect of battle rap indie diehards, the schtick is tired. He's officially milked it dry. At best; it sounded like a tired retread of his last couple albums and EPs, and at worst it sounded like Sage had no ******* clue what he wanted to do. The first track, to me, was the most telling. The schizoid tangle of random sounds works for guys like Mac Miller who, musically, make very bizarre music in the name of experimentation- Sage doesn't have that. He's very proudly anti- experimentation in hip hop. It feels bizarre that he's still fighting against the "current" state of hip hop, when hip hop is perhaps at it's most experimental stage ever- Mac Miller and Chance the Rapper and Young Thug are huge and Childish Gambino is accepted at the top of the rap mountain. I don't know what right Sage has to be mad about anymore. I would've much rather heard him doing weird type ***** with the weird type people in the indie rap sphere than hear him do his normal "Rap Game Buddy Wakefield"
Some dope hip hop releases on the way people! Kendrick says he's finishing up his album, Kanye said in an interview that he's looking at september, october or november to release his new album,
Holy *****, been forever since I've been around. For good reason, there's not ***** coming out lately....
Shabazz Palaces was a good listen.
Been re-listening to Pinata and Kismet (eXquire released an alternate version called Kismet Blue at some point, not sure when. Has more tracks and a lot of tracks of him talking about some songs before they play. It's good)

Albums have to come out...eventually, right? I liked Pinata way more listening to it today than the first time I did. I found it to be a surprisingly involved listen, given the overall sound seems really inviting in an old school kind of way.

Truth. When it first dropped I was a fan ya know, but not flipping out on it. After these few days of re-listening to it, it's just such a fantastic project.
So NehruvianDOOM and FlyLo's new album are both dope as hell...
I'm waiting on the official release of You're Dead! But the preview tracks (especially, obviously, Never Catch Me) are ill. Still need to catch NehruvianDOOM, bout to start binging the ***** out of "STN MTN/KAUAI." Took Gambino long enough to drop it.
Ah yeah I grabbed that. Only gave it one listen so far though, it was good too. Is there an official date for Kauai? Rocky has a new album coming too, I didn't catch a date though. He did just release a video for Multiply which was nice.
Ye, you can listen right here. My internet is *****, so I've only listened to the first five tracks, but I like it so far. Hopefully it grows on me as much as Born Sinner did.
I've been a fan of Future roughly since Astronaut Status and have been bumping WATTBA and 56 Nights. It's functional pop music but, hey, he's got some tracks.
Honestly, I've mostly just been listening to metal and the like instead of this sorta' stuff.
sorry for bumping an old thread but I'm a metalhead (mostly thrash and death metal) looking for some rap/hip hop to get into
so far I can enjoy Kendrick, 2 Chainz and Asap Rocky plus some old school stuff like 2pac and Snoop Dogg
recommend me some more music
What year is it? (have not been on these forums in aaaaages)
Just came by to check out some casual stuff and figured I'd check on this old thread. haha
I don't think you can wrong with my Holy Trinity; MF DOOM, Wu-Tang, and Flying Lotus/Captain Murphy.
Other classics if you haven't heard yet; Notorious BIG, Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla, Madlib/Quasimoto, Run the Jewels.
I've been listening to a lot of metal lately as well (equal parts metal and hiphop head haha), so that's what I got off the top right now.

That's a weird selection of dudes.
As for recommendations, Drake/Kanye are always on the table. 2 chainz is probably the best at what he does, but YG, Rich Homie Quan, Migos are all similar. Rae Srummurd, Fetty Wap, Ty Dolla Sign are all kinda like softer/more banger oriented 2 Chainz-y guys. As for A$AP Rocky, his new album is pretty unique in that it blends a lot of psychedelic rock stuff and he even samples/fts rod stewart on one of his songs. I'm not really a big fan, but there isn't really any easy comparison. You might like A$AP Ferg, Schoolboy Q, SpaceGhostPurp, Danny Brown. Idk those are loose comparisons.
As far as recommendations for a guy that likes Kendrick; it's really really easy. Start with Nas. They are basically the same guy. Music that addresses the social issues that concern black people in and out of the hood, using a style that's part anecdote part screenplay. Another guy that fits this mold would be Mos Def(Black on Both Sides is probably the most overlooked classic in rap history). Other guys that kinda fit the Kendrick-style, but are less social issue oriented and more anecdote than screenplay would be Freddie Gibbs(Pinata is his best Album) and Pusha T(also in a group with his brother named Clipse). Push even worked with Kendrick on the great Nosetalgia off of My Name Is My Name.
@Zuko, yeah man you fell off the face of the planet. Also 2014 really destroyed this thread.

I agree, 2014 hip hop has been a joke.

But! NEW SHABAZZ PALACES
Thank god. I've only listened to two singles so far, but both are incredible. This year might shape up well after all.
