Whether it's a physical copy (CD, vinyl, etc.) or not, do you purchase your music or get it for free? Futhermore, do you prefer physical copies or downloads?
I always buy a CD when I can. The only time I download anything is when I can't find a copy to buy anywhere, or when buying a copy is extremely expensive.
I started using Spotify back in February and pay the $10 a month for streaming that I can use on my iPhone. That's like buying a new album every month, and although not owning the music is a drawback, I end up finding 3 or 4 albums I really like every month. So, do the math -- it's definitely worth it for me.
However, I've come to realize there are a few physical CDs I want to own in case Spotify ever goes bankrupt or something, so I will start working on that collection soon.

Most of the time yes. Every once in a while there will be an old group or singer that I feel like exploring and come to find that they have released 10+ albums.

If I really love the artist I want to make sure they get the most support I can give and I buy the actual CD. I also like this so I can have physical backups of all my favorites in case of computer crash, lost MP3 player, etc.
I buy everything. With a Smartphone/Amazon MP3 app I can have brand new albums downloaded on a whim at work or anywhere else.
Although artists don't get much back from CD/MP3 sales (unless they're selling it themselves), I'd think that the financial success of their work impacts them positively through their label in some way or another (more freedom, better bookings, etc.), so it just feels right.

I'm nerd enough to link my WoW Armory Though I'll put it in a small font.
I have Rhapsody on my iPhone so I can stream unlimited music and download it too. I have downloaded thousands of songs off of Rhapsody for only $10 a month.

I recently had a discussion with a co-worker where he told me that I was old-fashioned because I still buy CD's. I don't think there is anything old-fashioned about having a backup of your music files.
I pay for all my music. I listen to smaller bands so I like to support them.
The past couple of years I've been getting lazier and end up just buying new albums off itunes instead of driving to pick up a cd.
itunes also has a feature to redownload anything you've ever bought with your apple acccount, so I don't have to worry about a harddrive failure.
I pay for all my music. Usually I buy on sale [though I'm going to have money soon so I'll be able to buy whatever I want! Hooray] but I buy MP3's, usually.

When I find something I like, I usually just buy a CD. But with XM in the car, and various ways to make playlists on the internet I do not buy CDs like I used to.
In the rare occasion I dont "buy" stuff, is when its so obscure its not even easily purchasable (if it even is).
My wife and I are avid music fans and collectors, and have a cd collection somewhere between 13-1400 discs currently, so yeah, we buy our music. As far as format, she's transitioned almost completely to digital, while I still try and pick up a physical cd if I can, except in the case where it's a small or particularly obscure artist, where buying a digital copy online is my only option.

Well, I listen to mostly local/small bands, so yes. I also buy albums/records of the bands I support, such as the The Phenomenauts.

Its why I pay for my cards at my LGS too.
A few years back I saw a compilation disk of my favorite singer. After wait-and-seeing for a few days, I found that that particular CD was the LAST in the entire town. So I bought it It was totally worth it.
Other than that, Youtube ftw
(In case you're wondering how that last CD managed to last a few days without anybody else snatching it up first, it's because said singer is a 90s singer, so probably the newer generation no longer cared Which is good for me XD)
I did not buy a great deal of CD's before. I acquired Music through other means.
I buy them now though. Mostly becuase I have a job and I don't really have an excuse not to.
I actually just bought 2 CD's today. (Wintersun's "Time 1" and Amon Amarth's "Surtur Rising")
I'm more inclined to buy compilation albums, so sometimes I don't know certain songs from a famous singer because that song is in their normal album but not included in the compilation.
So how about yourselves? Considering that sometimes compilation albums include a few fresh songs in addition to greatest hits, do you stick to buying everything, buy non-compilations only or like me, compilations only?

a.) Limewire got shut down, and
b.) I got an iPhone with iTunes on it,
I tend to buy now unless I cannot find it on there. Then I sbour the internet for what I want.
