Any PJ fans here?? Not sure if I'll get many but its worth a try.
List favorite songs/albums and why you like them. As for me, I like a lot of their less commonly known ones. But let's hear what MTGsalvation has to say.
Personally, I think Ten/Vs are incredibly overrated, and the No Code/Yield era was the best. But I like all the albums in truth.
Personally Ten is my favorite, mainly because Jeremy is such a powerful song. There are very few songs that make me think deeply about abuse and the effects of negative environments on children and this one does it every time.

For me Pearl Jam is not just a band, it's a way of life! I bleed Pearl Jam! I have a stick man tattoo, I'll see them every chance I get (up to 11 so far and am seeing them in about 5-6 weeks in Montana) and no day is complete until I've listened to at least a few of their songs. I have tons of PJ bootlegs (not the official ones, though I do have some of those as well) and other such rare stuff. Seeing them at the Gorge in George in September of 2005 was hands down the greatest concert I've ever been to, followed very closely by Seattle in 2000 (the last show of the Binaural tour).
Ten will always be my favorite album of all time. I identify with so many of the songs from it and the first time I heard it it was everything I was thinking and feeling at the time. The self titled (avocado) is a close second. Without fail though every album has at least a couple of songs that really speak to me, almost like they were written just for me.
I really don't think I could rate the albums or songs, there's just too much phenomenal stuff. Corduroy will always hold a special place in my heart as that was their opener the first time I saw them. Alive is also my go to song when life gets hard. There's really only 2 songs by them that I don't like, Pilate, which really isn't that bad, and Evacuation, which I hate.
I tend to focus more on specific lyrics that really stick with me. For example, "no matter how cold the winter, there's a spring time ahead". Words to live by man. That line has helped me through many a dark hour. I also love "I know I was born and I know that I'll die, the in between is mine. I am mine."
Pearl Jam will always be my all time favorite band. As far as I'm concerned they're the greatest band ever. EVER! No matter what's happening in life Pearl Jam always makes it better. I truly believe that Pearl Jam saved me because in my youth when I had no one and nothing and was barely holding on I took comfort in their music and thought "at least I have that". They gave me something to live for and now, many years later, I couldn't be happier. Whenever life takes a dump on me I crank up Alive as loud as I can and all my troubles melt away. When life is at it's best I listen to their music and it only gets better. I would love to get the chance to meet any one of them just for the opportunity to thank them for the amazing music that has so enriched my life.
So yeah, not a band, a way of life! I could go on and on about them forever but I think you all get the point. Thanks for the thread OP! It's put a smile on my face!:D
I enjoy me some pearl jam. The band, not the....nvm.
Anyway, yeah they're pretty solid. Ten is probably my favorite just because it's what I heard first and had the most exposure to.
VS was another that resonated well with me.
Funnily enough one of the songs I'm learning how to play currently is yellow Ledbetter.
Too many albums, with re-releases. I tried to listen to their body of work but it was too exhausting, so I more or less listened to their compilation album. I liked two albums but can't remember what they're called.
I was made aware of Pearl Jam by "Do the Evolution", which was on the local version of MTV (music TV). It's not as bad as MTV because it's rather indie and also plays proper music (not ultra-pop music or pretentious indie music).
Not only do I love pearl jam but I love their previous incarnations: temple of the dog and mother love bone. Just listened to some various tracks from pj and MLB earlier today with my 3 year old and he was rocking out.

That is somewhat misleading though as there are only two people that were in all three bands (Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament) and all three bands had different lead singers. Though Eddie Vedder does do lead vocals on one TotD song. I don't think it's accurate to say that MLB and TotD are previous incarnations of PJ.
It is quite bad ass though that your 3 year old is digging the music!
I have all of their albums except the newest one, Backspacer. Is it worth the buy? I'll be honest I think their best songs are behind them, but I have endless respect for this band and love their first 5 or so albums to death. I think Vitalogy is my all time favorite but it's so SO hard to pick just one.

Beauty of mine, sit before me. Let me peruse you and remember you... always like this.
I have all of their albums except the newest one, Backspacer. Is it worth the buy?
I love it! I don't think it's the best thing they've ever done but not the worst either. I'll admit though, it did take me a little longer than most of their stuff to get into. It's a short album and some of the songs feel somewhat pop-ish, mostly the first ones on the album. I feel like they are kind of surfacey, like the band was just dialing it in when they were written. A great many of their songs have very deep and meaningful lyrics but the first four songs on the album don't really have that going on. That being said, they are still great songs! 'Got Some' and 'The Fixer' are great songs to turn up and just groove to.
The back end of the album however is amazing! Starting with song number five, 'Just Breathe', the songs take on a more serious/emotional tone but without being heavy. Most of them are a close look into Eddie's psyche and really tell you that he's not as angry as he used to be and may have found some semblance of peace at last. Instead of songs about feeling lonely like he wrote years ago they are more about being grateful for his family and his life. But there is also fear there, that even though he has all this he could still lose it someday. Songs such as 'Just Breathe', 'Amongst the Waves', 'Speed of Sound' and 'The End' are, in my opinion, amazing songs. 'Amongst the Waves' is just as good as anything they've ever done. It sounds like it was written when Ed was in a happy, peaceful place with lines such as "I can feel like I have a soul that has been saved", and "I can feel like I put away my early grave". It's really an amazing song and has become my go to song when I'm feeling like life couldn't be better and I want to celebrate. Also, 'Just Breathe' is a great love song.
This album also reunites the band with long time producer Brendan O'Brien who produced their first 5 albums.
So there's my one and a half cents about it (I could have written more but I have to get back to work). I hope it was helpful and I fully encourage you to go check out the album! Listen to it multiple times and really let it sink in!
Edit: after giving it much thought I've determined that this is the best I can do at ranking their albums:
1. 10
2. Pearl Jam (avocado)
3. Four way tie between VS, Vitalogy, No Code and Yeild
4. Two way tie between Riot Act and Backspacer
5. Binaural
This is just my personal opinion. And even though Binaural is my least favorite of their albums I'd still take it over anything else by any other band or artist.
Hey, just browsing some of the sub-forums that I never bother checking out and found this one.
Pearl Jam are great and I have some very fond memories of my adolescence tied to their music. As much as it is a little cliche, I really dig 'Ten' and 'Vs.'
Funny thing though, I don't think I've actually listened to their couple most recent albums, and didn't even know about the '09 release, 'Backspacer'
Anyways Pearl Jam rocks, Mother Love Bone rocked too. Good to hear from you folks, peace.
...not only is the total number of players expanding very quickly, but at the same time a greater and greater number of those players are being pushed to only desire a small subset of the available cards. These combined forces drastically increase demand for those cards and cause the values of just those specific cards to often balloon out of proportion.
Just saw them yesterday in Missoula. The show was ****ing amazing! 20+ years on and they still rock your face off like no one else! Yesterday was also the first time I got to have sex on the same day I saw Pearl Jam, and that was after winning the pre-realease the day before. I think yesterday may just have been the greatest day of my life! Life is good!
I'm not the hugest fan of Pearl Jam but they're a very solid band overall imo. There are a few of their songs that I really really enjoy of theirs, though. My favorites are probably Given to Fly, Unthought Known and especially Insignificance (live only).
Yesterday they announced a US tour for this fall, 24 stops in all. Go to www.pearljam.com to read more about it. I'm pretty stoked as they are coming to my home town (Spokane) for the first time in over 20 years and I should be able to go to the Seattle show as well.

I've been meaning to get into them more but I'm not usually in the mood for alternative rock
Once and rearviewmirror are towards the top of my list personally.
