DC isn't a whole lot better but they at least have a few including one iconic female hero (Wonder Woman), here's hoping they don't screw it up.
Oh good god had they better not screw it up. Wonder Woman has been due a feature film for decades now. And can you imagine how different the movie landscape might be if Joss Whedon had been able to complete his WW film instead of doing The Avengers?

It's comic books, man. "Why" is seldom a productive question to ask. Why do any of these people transform into muscle monsters at all? The whole thing makes no sense. But insofar as there is an explanation, the whatever-it-is that makes people into Hulks seems to latch onto different emotional issues in different people. For Bruce, it was his repressed rage, but for Jennifer, it was her social insecurity. Basically, she was shy, and transforming made her outgoing. But she's developed over the years to the point where she's really the same person in both forms now.
That is good to hear; I agree that Jennifer/She-Hulk should not be an exact copy of Bruce/Hulk, but I do very much wish to see a Jeckyll/Hyde duality in her character, and the idea of the contrast between her human form being socially-awkward and shy and her super form being much more outgoing is a great way to portray her character, but, if the two sides of her personality become too similar to each other, what point is there in even having two forms?

I was hoping that after the great team up in Cap 2 that Black Widow would get her own movie. Sadly this did not happen. I think a high energy action thriller with Natasha and some of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s lesser known(to the mainstream audience) agents or perhaps an original character or two would be fantastic. The fact that Phil Coulson is alive is a testament to the power of an original character!

I would have expected a prequel showing us how she went from villain to SHIELD agent. Seemed like the obvious approach to a solo film.

The Ant-Man project seems to be shelved. It's not on their lineup anymore. Troubled production, apparently.
I don't think it's shelved (though if you have a link that would be great) it's just not part of their "Phase 3" plan, it's the last film in Phase 2. At least I think that's correct.
Also, DC is doing a Suicide Squad film? Holy crap yes, please let it be good.

You appear to be right. I misinterpreted their Phase 3 announcement and expected that Age of Ultron would be the last Phase 2 film.

Frankly, I would like DC to start make good Superman and Batman films. Then, once they get that squared away, then we can talk about other franchises. Cuz right now, not looking good on that front.
Apparently they'll be exploring her past in Age of Ultron. I assumed that further exploration of Black Widow's past would take place in an Avengers film, which I think is the best place for it to happen.
As to why Marvel isn't making it a priority, these films cost about 150-200 million to make. They could either take the chance on a solo Black Widow film and have it potentially lose money like the Hulk films did, or they could pair her up with another Avengers character who's been established to be a money maker. Which is what they did, by the way, and it made 714 million dollars.
And after the Avengers became the unexpected, unprecedented success that it was, I can't imagine Marvel would have any intention of separating Black Widow from at least one other member of the Avengers crew anytime soon.
Remember that the bottom line is money. We're not getting any more Hulk films. So why would we expect a Black Widow film anytime soon?

Or they could be awesome, and say "You know what? Screw Black Widow, Captain Marvel, and She-Hulk. We're gonna do a Squirrel Girl movie."
Callin' it now: the Squirrel makes a surprise entrance at the end of Infinity War Part 2. Doing what she does best. Then, since all the original actors' contracts are expiring, Gen 4 is the building of the Great Lakes Avengers, leading up to Avengers: Rise of Fin Fang Foom.
Which is only ten minutes long, because Squirrel Girl.

Bad Logic: The Hulk films have consistently underwhelmed while ScarJo as Black Widow is consistently impressive on screen.
Iron Man 2.
Potshots aside, The Hulk films failed to make money when it's the Hulk, and everyone knows who he is. The first Captain America and Thor films were modest successes. It's only been post Avengers that the Avengers-who-aren't-Iron-Man franchises have been pushing past the half-million mark, and one of those is Captain America.
So it's perfectly understandable that no one's rushing into a Black Widow film. They need to be sure that Black Widow can carry her own franchise, and that's not been tested yet. Remember that the Avengers came out two years ago, and nobody expected it to do as well as it did. And Winter Soldier only just came out this year. Avengers 2 won't be out until May of next year, and I'm sure Marvel's waiting on that because whether or not the success of Avengers 1 can be repeated will determine the future of all things Marvel.
So I would be surprised if we got a Black Widow film before 2020.

Ehhhh...
I mean, she's not bad. But she's never made me say "I want a movie of that!" like Anthony Mackie's Falcon or Anne Hathaway's Catwoman or Idris Elba's every single character*.

I wonder if Wasp will be in Ant-Man. And if so, perhaps they could have put her name in the title. Even if she wasn't the main solo character, equal billing would be a start for female superheroes. This should be especially acceptable since, as far as I know, Ant-Man doesn't even have his own solo comic.

We have laboured long to build a heaven, only to find it populated with horrors.

Looking at Wikipedia, it doesn't appear so. It looks like it's going to be focusing on Scott Lang and not Hank Pym, and while Pym's daughter (who eventually becomes Red Queen) is cast, there's no casting decision at the moment for Wasp.

My suspicion is that the daughter is going to end up as the new Wasp. Not starting the story with Hank Pym kind of mixes everything up; anything is possible, really. And Wasp is a far more important supporting character to the Ant-Man mythos than Red Queen.

Eh, only one on the Squad I care about is Harley Quinn, and she kind of needs the Joker around to make any sense.
