If you Youtube "deadpool test footage" it's everywhere. As a HUGE Deadpool fan myself, I can't help but get a little head-over-heels, but is it possible/probable this is just old footage from the scrapped attempt a few years? What are your opinions? I think this clip has the attitude and the comedy PERFECT, and Ryan Reynolds (I never thought I'd say this) does a great job here.
Well, with Marvel swapping Thor's gender and fiddling with Iron Man and Captain America to equivalent extents, I'm assuming they're just going to try to gloss over the half-decade-old mistake they made in Origins. I recalled reading an article however, about a year ago, where a Marvel bigwig said "There won't be a Deadpool movie, there's just no demand. We tried [Ryan Reynolds] again a few months ago since he's still on contract but we've since given up." (imagine how angry I was when a little while later they pull the curtain off of Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, two comics I had never so much as flipped through, after being told my golden boy had "no demand") so, my fear is that THIS is the attempted Ryan Reynolds stuff just emerging late in the game. However, with some of the new HQ versions of the clip online I'm starting to get convinced this is an intentional piece of advertisement...and then there's always the possibility of it being some kind of janky video game sequel trailer.
Marvel Studios made Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. 20th Century Fox made X-Men Origins and owns the film rights to the Deadpool character (for some reason). Marvel Comics has no creative control over what 20th Century Fox does. They are completely separate companies with completely separate game plans working on completely separate projects. This is why we're getting two different versions of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.
And it is as you suspect: the test footage is from 2011.
How can ***** like Guardians of the Galaxy and Antman get the green light but not Deadpool? Deadpool is just an all around awesome character, with an incredibly rich backstory that even I, someone that knows very little about comics, understands is extremely deep and could likely span multiple movies.

He is also a sociopathic lunatic with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. A good enough writer can do just about anything, but it is very, very hard to get audiences to connect with a character like that for two hours straight. I found the recent Deadpool game more nauseating than anything else, and I'm not exactly a tender flower of innocence. Deadpool is best, for me anyway, in small doses.

It really depends on the writer. Some (the worse ones, imho) try to write him as a loveable rogue with 'zany random' antics. Others paint him as a troubled individual which means well (as in Cable and Deadpool), while others make it clear he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
up to the point where he has put Blind Al in a closet laced with barbed wire and glass shards
I agree with Deadpool as a comic relief. The books were nice because it wasn't really in you face as voice acting or a movie would be. This is also the problem I had with the game, amongst other things. Some of the scenes were funny, but it just got so non sequitur after awhile I actually started not caring. That's ultimately where the movie lies. Either it could be a black comedy action movie (and probably their first R rating) or a movie version of one of those video games where the character taunts get annoying after the third or forth time you hear the same snarky taunt (IE Gex).
I think that's why they haven't really given the movie a go yet. Critics will obviously tear it apart and fans would see it, but I think it would be a big flash in the pan at that rate. Fans would go see it because, hey Deadpool movie. But I think casual movie goers would be turned off by it.
That being said, the rich corinthian leather line made me spit up my drink.
EDIT: Also, I just had this thought: This is the third separate major studio/movie within a week to release "test footage" of an upcoming movie. The other two being JJ Abrams with his flyby footage of the Millennium Falcon for Star Wars and Sony Pictures Animation released one for an upcoming looks-like-it-might-be-pretty-bad Popeye movie. Considering the timing AND relevancy of all three studios, I think this may be a new thing to generate hype. Already the hype for the Abrams footage is pretty resounding, and it's obvious on other forums and even here the Deadpool footage is taking hold. So, if anything, this whole "Hey guys! Look at this footage that we just happen to find laying around our studio---wink, wink" is a sham and probably some stupid advertising move. Moves like this usually signal a bad movie, IMO.
But serious that Popeye footage, while not bad, looks horrendous. It looks like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs but with over reactions and Popeye character models. Ugh.
Trailer inspires me with some sense of hope. Blind Al and Weasel implies a Deadpool based more on Kelly's runs than the later Wade runs. Too bad the rest of it doesn't look too interesting. No sense of what the plot's going to be, I kind of miss T-Ray and the fighting looks really stilted.

Odd that Colossus of all people would be in it. That's pretty random. I guess it does connect Deadpool to the larger X-universe since Colossus was (barely) in a few of the X-Men films, but that's a strange character choice if that's the reason for him being here. As someone who was a fan of the character in the older X-Men comics, I hope they do some justice to him, but I'm afraid he's probably just there to be a big, dumb thug for Deadpool to fight. At least he might have more lines than he ever had in any of the X-Men movies I guess.
No sense of what the plot's going to be, I kind of miss T-Ray and the fighting looks really stilted.
Which trailer were you watching? If it was the green version it looks like there has been a case of bad editing to get it into the guidelines. The red one shows the some of the same scenes as the green one with the bloodier bits left in and it isn't stilted.
Just thinking of the clip with him him shooting the 3 mooks lined up behind the car. In the green one he does his flip and they fall over. In the red one he does his flip the camera pans round and you see him shoot all three of them with the same shot and brain matter pop out the head of the one at the back.

The red one. I mean actual fighting, not the gun stuff. For example: the fighting in the car, where all the hits look like they have no impact whatsoever.

I was kinda hooked with the "Daddy needs to express some rage." line, honestly.
Yeah, that was one of the other nice bits. I just really hope they don't go for the meme-spouting, cringeworthy Deadpools we've seen from some of the later writers, and stick more to the emotionally shattered madman who tries to deal with everything by not being too serious about it. But as I said: that hope is given some backing by Blind Al being there.

I don't get the feeling we are going to see a lot of that. Yeah, the "Green animated suit" line means we are going to see references, I don't think Reynolds will let them be dumb with it (For instance, "You look like Ryan Reynolds got attacked by a sharpie" wasn't used in the trailer)

They did an excellent job, I agree with all of your points, I just don't know how this is gonna work after the whole Wolverine thing.

EDITED FOR SPOILERS.
I definitely agree. I enjoy the character, but he's best when paired with other characters as the comic relief.

Good or bad though, I'm rather amazed the thing even got made at all.
I love Deadpool as a character, but I had to stop reading his books because he just became oversaturated in the last few years.

At least one superiority this movie has is that Ryan Reynolds seems entirely an appropriate casting choice for Deadpool.
