So I watched the new Robocop last night (one of my buddies is Security at a casino, and his days off are Wedn and Thurs, so I see movies on weird days sometimes).
It was a LOT better than I was expecting. It is by no means a classic, but it's definitely better than Robocop 2 and 3 (which admittedly isn't a high bar to set). It's less Parody than the previous films, and has a few problems, but overall it's an enjoyable experience.
My few problems with the movie:
- It's too short. They spend too much of the movie before he hits the streets of Detroit, so I feel like some of the build up towards the climax is unearned.
- Not enough parody. Sam Jackson is great on 'The Novak Element', a Sean Hannity-esque character, but other than that the movie takes itself a little too seriously.
- Body horror. Can't really talk about this without spoiler too much, but they use a lot less of Murphy to make Robocop this time around.
Other than that, I thought this was a great remake. It stayed true to the themes of the original without rehashing things.
Honestly my only problem with it is that you could have called it "Cyborgs" or something and it would have been fine, the Robocop name seemed... well tacked on.
Now dont get me wrong the original is well.... it has its own set of problems, but at least it owned itself, this just felt like the usual half-assed 'lets see if it sticks' kind stuff thats been put out lately.

Call me old fashioned, but an evil ascension to power just isn't the same without someone chanting faux Latin in the background.

That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange eons even death may die.

It makes sense in the context of the movie. Whereas many remakes or sequels lately may have well been different franchises, this movie is still Robocop.
