Hear me out. I'm not some creep just looking to hit on women
We've had a home RPG/boardgame/magic group for about 5 years. My wife, of 6 years, is actually the person who got me into PnP RPG's, and she loves playing them. Our current gaming group is: Myself, Her, My brother, a friend from high school, a friend from undergrad, and one of his friends from work.
Its a good sized group. The problem is, it's *all* guys, except for my wife. She's OK with it, but she would really like it if one (or a couple) more women were in the group. Have any of you had success getting/finding women interested in playing in a home group? If so... how?
Yes, years ago I played in a huge game of vampire that was a LARP group (around 60 players) and just about half of the players were women. The group got together via the internet, putting ads in gaming shops, friends bringing friends or having bf/gf, bringing them along as something they could do together, or word of mouth.
Also you should know that lot of gaming shops have like news boards in them - so maybe there's some near you. Once thing I did to recruit people for a game of exalted was I put up a flier on the news board that basically just said, I'm going to start up a game of exalted - looking for X players, etc.
I said online too, a lot of times you can find groups of people, at least in my LARP group's case, that make a message board or a thread within a message board specifically for local people to talk, set up meets, etc.,
So, I would probably just do some googling and see if there's any groups or players looking to get together for a game.
If anyone here can find any way to meet women, especially for your gaming group, I would be very interested to hear more about it; while female players do attend events at my local game store (whose name I shall not reveal to protect my own anonymity), they are still a minority compared to the males, and even in my own group of friends, there are more men than there are women, and I shall admit that I feel jealous of my males friends who have girlfriends/romantic partners, since I do not have such a person in my life.

As a lifelong female gamer I can only say that having the same gender as someone is kind of a shallow point of commonality. I've played with mostly women and have been the only woman at a table and the experiences have been pretty much the same.
If the OP's wife wants more women in her playgroup she should entice her female friends to play. Very few people I know got into gaming out of their own desire! I got into TCGs and tabletop RPGs because friends asked me to play with them. A home group has a slightly better chance of attracting women because there is less of a chance of having to deal with creepers, white knights, and the overall dudeness that can pervade an LGS at times.
I find that the easiest way to get non-gaming women to play boardgames, Magic etc, is to host a dinner party/backyard barbecue and play the said games. Invite several non-gaming people as well so women won't feel out of place.
You must start off with an easier, more beginner friendly game to get them interested. If they find it interesting, they'll google more about it and you can invite them to future game nights.

There's probably a local establishment near your area that deal with the comic books/miniatures/card games/board games/table top games playing demographics, right?
If yes, that's probably a great venue to go meet fellow gamers.
If no... Well, depending on how entrepreneurial you feel right now, you could open up such an establishment yourself.

There are several She's kind of exploring that avenue. Once current Baby is old enough(he's 3.5 months old, slept for 9 hours straight for the first time last night!) she's htinking of doing a "women only" home game/in store game to try and make friends with more women gamers.
We're both worried it would be kind of awkward to invite a total stranger, who's a woman, over to our house with the guise of "Hey, want to spend Friday night hanging out in our basement with a bunch of guys you don't know, and this one girl you barely know?"
