Don't understand why anyone would buy either without games....
Because the XB1 does other cool stuff. I'm normally a diehard PS guy, but the PS4 felt complacent to me. Like, they want me to spend $400 so I can stream? Really?
Dont let people get you with the 1080p VS 720p upscaled. The only game so far with a significant difference graphically is CoD: Ghosts, which has framerate issues on PS4. Graphics are NOT the selling point of either of these consoles, and the fact is that games will either be developed for both consoles, and will look the same, or will be developed for one and will do everything it can to get the most out of the hardware.
It's really a question of how you'd like to use your machine. If you want to play all the biggest blockbusters, watch netflix on it, or just multitask (picture in picture is what made me switch from Playstation 3 to Xbox 1: I'm a huge sports fan and I hate choosing between video games and watching a game), go for the Xbox.
If you want to play tons of indies on it (personally, not big for me since I use my PC for those), are excited by the MMOs slated to launch for it, think Kinect is stupid, don't care about the non-game stuff so much, or don't think the other features justify $100, PS4 is for you.
But by and large, it's a preference call with no right answer. For the first time, both manufacturers have put out a great product with stellar controller design, online services, and hardware. Even all the big name titles that were once sony exclusives like Metal Gear Solid and Kingdom Hearts will find their way on both platforms. If you have friends with the consoles, or have a gamestop with demo displays, check them out. See which UI you find easier to navigate, which controller feels more comfortable, because at the end of the day, the right console for you is the one that pisses you off the least.
If graphics aren't the selling point, why is anyone buying either? They don't yet do anything a person can't get for far less money (you could even buy a brand new smart TV with all of XB1's relevant features besides gameplay for the same price) if they already own a PS3/XB1 if graphics are irrelevant. All of the games worth playing for either console besides Resogun and Forza 5 are out for the PS3/360, just with inferior graphics. You'd buy neither right now if you were even remotely tech savvy and didn't care about graphics.
It's also hilariously inaccurate to say that the XB1 has access to all of the best blockbusters. I own about 65 360/PS3 games from last generation - 25 of them are PS3 exclusives, 8 of them are 360 "exclusives" (a couple are available on the PC) and the rest are multi-platform games I buy on a console depending on whether one version is an inferior port, whether I want to play it online or not and which controller I prefer for that genre. I own basically every top tier quality game from every genre besides sports from last generation - I'd have missed out on 38% of them with just a 360. Why should this generation be any different?
This isn't news to real gamers. You need every console to play all of the blockbusters across the genres. If you want to get the majority of them with one console, you should probably get a PS4 (eventually). That's really all there is to it.
I have both. The kinect voice commands are cool. Just saying "Xbox watch espn", etc is pretty sweet. But I prefer my ps4 for one reason. Remote play with my vida. I play my ps4 anywhere I go with wifi. And it's awesome. It's not great for shooters but for AC: Black Flag, knack and other solo games it's really cool. Also, I've never been a big "this controller is better" guy, but damn if the new ps4 controller isn't great.
Because conservative bias is a far, far worse thing. Liberal bias doesn't, statistically speaking, make people stupid. Conservative bias (or at least Fox's version of it) does.
