Anyone seen the new DBZ Movie yet? From what I understand it hit theatres in Japan on March 30, 2013 last month and it's 100% canon to the Anime/Manga franchise by Akira Toriyama which takes place 2 years after the defeat of Majin Buu and before the end of DBZ when Goku fights against Uub during the World Martial Arts Tournament. The MMORPG Dragon Ball Online is also officially canonized as the continuation of the franchise as well but unfortunately it's exclusive in South Korea. I still think it's stupid that the game is region locked from the U.S. but whatever.
I guess I could explain what the new DBZ Movie is about without giving away too many spoilers, but basically the villian in this movie looks something like a pink Lucario known as "Bills", yes I kid you not that's his name and apparently he's known as the God of Destruction in the DBZ Universe accompanied by some guy named "Wills" and he goes to Earth to battle against Goku when he finds out that Frieza was defeated by him on Namek. Apparently Bills was asleep for 40 years until the end of the Buu Saga when he awakened and found out the news about Frieza's defeat at the hands of the Saiyan warrior. Too bad Bills didn't get the memo about Future Trunks killing Frieza and King Cold.
Aside from that there's a new Super Saiyan Transformation created by Toriyama himself to replace SSJ4 in Dragon Ball GT for good known as "Super Saiyan God" although it reminds me of when Goku used Kaioken against Vegeta during the Saiyan Saga, and it's Goku's most powerful transformation surpassing SSJ3. Then the next rumor I kept hearing about in this movie is SSJ3 Vegeta makes an appearance as well and whether that's confirmed I'll leave it to you guys. There's been alot of hype surrounding this installation of the DBZ Anime Movie franchise in Japan so hopefully this will get dubbed by FUNimation sometime in the near future.
I've already seen some of the official trailers for this movie and it looks amazing, Tien comes back to fight without Chiaotzu of course like he did in Buu Saga, Gotenks is kicking butt like he did in the last DBZ Anime Special "Yo Son Goku and his friends return!", #18 is there fighting but like in most DBZ movies it always comes down to Goku to save the day, and Gohan gets snubbed again like he did in the Buu Saga when everyone is pandering to Goku because SSJ3 > Mystic Saiyan apparently. Anyway, Videl looks amazing in this movie and it's too bad she didn't keep that style at the end of the Anime series. Bulma looks the same as she did in Buu Saga including Chi-Chi as well. If you want me to post links of the Official Trailers from YouTube here I'd be glad to...

Nah, I haven't seen it, but your time frame is slightly off for this movie, its 5ish years after Buu, not 2. From what I heard about the movie, its a nostalgia trip and still a serious attempt at a movie. But at the same time, Super Saiyan God sounds like a cheap cash in. Not to mention I shudder to think what the name might be changed to when it is brought over to America.
Even though Battle of Gods is the name of the movie, and it is written in English even in Japan on the movie posters, no Dragonball Special or Movie has maintained the exact name when adapted into English, though admittedly, the Japanese names, for the most part, are pretty long and unmovie like when translated into English. I honestly think though that there is no way that the word God actually makes it over into any Funimation adaptation of this movie because its unmarketable to the Bible Belt.

Battle of the Gods would be fine, I think. Roman Mythology sells perfectly fine in the bible belt.
Also remember that this is the first truly new Dragonball Z product marketed for the United States since the 90's - a lot has changed. This is the first new DBZ movie in 18 years - an entire generation has been born and reached adulthood in the the mean time. Japanese studios now recognizes the American audience as a legitimate consumer base, and America studios recognize the audience's desire for authenticity. So I think a lot of it could make it through intact.
From what I've read about it, it's pretty good (for DBZ). I really enjoyed the anniversary special from a couple years ago, so if this is of similar quality, it should be great!
My friend told me about this edition of DBZ series yesterday. I am a huge fan of DBZ series. I am downloading it from morning but there are very few seeders and i think it'll take five hours more. I'll watch as soon as its gets downloaded.
I finally got a chance to watch this in Japanese Sub a few months ago and it was decent at best. I don't want to go over too much without spoiling the film but I will say that there's some action and fighting involved but not too much of it. Most of the fighting was done in CGI instead of how it traditionally was in the past where it felt more fluid where you felt like you were apart of the action, in this movie it didn't feel like it especially since everything was in HD. The nostalgia felt kind of rushed before it got to the good parts though.
The movie does end in a cliffhanger If you want to call it that so whether or not If there will be a continuation to this is anyone's guess. Considering that this movie takes place right after the defeat of Kid Buu and years before the end of DBZ with Goku's matchup against Uub that took away alot of the suspense that this movie had since you already know what's going to happen later. I didn't get the kind of adrenaline rush from this that I had when watching classic DBZ mainly due to the change in animation style as well as knowing the outcome.
For anyone wondering If FUNimation will ever do an English Dub for Battle of Gods, it's not going to happen. Bruce Faulconer who was in charge of the BGM for the English Dub for Dragon Ball Z and possibly the original Dragon Ball English Dub quit the company due to low pay and as a result Dragon Ball Kai was a major flop on Nickelodeon especially when some of the voice actors of the original FUNimation Dub quit and got replaced by new voice actors who did a terrible job dubbing Bulma, Gohan, and Frieza in the Kai Dub. By the time FUNimation got to the end of Cell Saga with the Kai Dub they quit afterward since there was never a Japanese Sub for the Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Kai.

Actually you're really off base actually. Kai was a bit of a flop in Japan sure, but it wasn't for what you are thinking of. DB Kai's Television ratings were actually pretty high. However with Japanese cartoons now, the bulk of the income comes from marketing products. Dragonball was not moving the merchandise in enough quantity that justified its continued airing on TV in Japan. People were watching, but they weren't buying the merch. So they cancelled it and put on a cheaper show that could create new merch sales. After all, there has been continuing interest in DB Merch in Japan, even after the show went off the air in 1997.
The Buu Saga for DB Kai was never produced. But it is in the process of being produced. Only 97 episodes of DB Kai aired in Japan (the 98th and final episode being DVD only due to the Fukushima earthquake). It was not Funimation's decision to stop dubbing at Episode 98 of Kai, that was literally all that existed.
However DB Kai was not a flop in the United States. It was a huge success. So much so that the Japanese VA's just in the last several months were called in to do voice work for the Buu Saga for DB Kai... for an American release of Kai for the Buu Saga. When this gets announced is anyone's guess at this point, but this recording was confirmed by the Japanese VA's. So its literally just sitting in a can atm. Perhaps work is still being done on editing the footage, or perhaps Funimation is waiting for a more opportune time to do announce it. No one really knows.
As for Freeza. Uh.. I don't know how you think Linda Young did a good job on Freeza, but Chris Ayers did a really good job with the character and FINALLY gave the character a voice that didn't suck.
Bruce Faulconer hasn't been working on Dragonball products in almost 10 years at this point. And no, Faulconer had nothing to do with any original Dragonball dub. The original 13 episode dub run of Dragonball used entirely different music by another composer, and the Dragonball run from when it debuted on Toonami from 2001 onward just used the original Japanese score even on network television.
Faulconer wasn't fired, they didn't contract him to score DBGT, since they wanted to go in a Rap direction with the soundtrack. Besides, once the lousy orange brick sets were released and a Japanese score mix produced, that is what Funimation has marketed for TV Broadcast since. Faulconer's audio mix was only included on those DVD's as a clever way to get nostalgic attachment involved.
The thing with Battle of Gods is that there are so many companies involved in the production of the movie, including Fox, which may delay or prevent an English release. However there is nothing stopping any American viewer from purchasing a Japanese Blu Ray copy and playing it, as Japan and the US share the same Blu Ray region. Though it won't have subtitles, its still the movie.
As for Freeza. Uh.. I don't know how you think Linda Young did a good job on Freeza, but Chris Ayers did a really good job with the character and FINALLY gave the character a voice that didn't suck.
I thought Linda Young's voice acting for Frieza was pretty good even though most people preferred Chris Ayers to fit with the villain's gender more. I also noticed that Linda Young was the voice of Genkai in the FUNimation Dub of Yu Yu Hakusho so I suppose that was a bit more appropriate than her voicing Frieza I assume.

Freeza's is amazing regardless of the voice, although I prefer the abriged voice.
In any case, on topic, I actually watched this a couple months ago and it was pretty good. Don't expect anything earth shattering, but it was very funny. At this point, any new DBZ is basically just for nostalgia's sake (like the anniversary special from a couple years ago).
