No, not this Hecatomb. But the unfortunately dead CCG by the name of Hecatomb by... none other than Wizards of the coast.
Its story in brief: Five sided, partially transparent plastic cards feature minions, fates, relics, and Gods. You play minions on top of of other minions so that they are rotated a side and the abilities of one minion shows through to the other minions. Thus, you create unnatural, twisted abominations. Relics are like artifacts. Gods are... well... pure awesome sauce. Fates are sorceries and instants. You can play any card as a mana card.
The good: While I agree that the land screw problem is actually "good" for Magic in that it teaches you to be a better player, it's nice to try out the Duel Masters / VS. System / etc. method of "any card can be played as a resource" method. The game is actually a quite elegant, unique version of Magic. The art and mythos is great. The plastic cards are quite sturdy.
The bad: It's dead. It's kinda hard to shuffle. No active Internet communities for it. It's incompatible with deck boxes, sleeves, etc.
Anyway, I found it for insane cheapness at $10 a booster box... 24 boosters originally priced at $5 a booster... and bit on a 3 box deal, one of the base set and 1 each of the two expansions. I'm currently building many stable decks and hope to introduce it to my Magic buddies soon.
So the question: Who has played Hecatomb, who is playing it, and who might be interested in playing it? (I can PM you the website with a cheap booster box deal if you are interested but won't advertise here.) I really like this game and am thinking about it quite a bit at the moment! Feel free to discuss or critique the game as well.
EDIT: Oh yeah! The official web site is still up... search Hecatomb and it'll show up. You can see all the cards and a rule book, etc.
I gave the game a try when it premiered- they had a demo at my local card shop. I did two games with it and came to the conclusion that Vs. did the same thing, except better, cleaner, and more fun.
And the pentagonal cards made shuffling an impossibility.
The average lion is approximately 190 cm long and 60 cm wide = 11400 cm2 = 0.00000114 km2
Now, if we take that times a trillion we get 11,400,000 km2 of lion.
I found the cards far easier to shuffle than sleeved regular cards...plus Hecatomb cards don't need sleeves and are sturdy as hell and will not be bent or damaged in shuffling. I am very disappointed that wizards discontinued the game as I found it very fun to play and a system with real promise.

I was/am extremely interested in getting the game going in my area because the cards are so cheap. But Magic keeps all other games out just because you gotta stay on top of everyone else. So it comes down to (for me):
1 Staying a relatively good Magic player and getting my monies worth in cards.
2 Staying as a really casual magic player as I try out other games and buy cards that'll never be worth as much when I quite those games.
Needless to say I like the idea of my cards retaining their value.
Anyway, I've actually got quite good with shuffling them. Very sturdy.
My Magic buddies have been busy with school, so I haven't had time to intro it. I have built about 10 decks and played them against each other.
I have a thing about dead CGCs. I've picked up massive amounts of Hecatomb, Discwars, Star Wars (the lesser exciting WOTC version) and others for massive cheapness.
Anyway, here's another question if anyone is reading. As I understand it, shortly after the last Hecatomb expansion, one of the designers (?) went on the site, hyping up the next expansion, telling about the themes they worked on and such, but two months later it was canceled.
I wonder if he was hyping up "future product" to boost sales for current product? I wonder if any other stuff was created and not released? How far back did they know they were going to cancel it?

Magnificent Quote of the day:
i never really saw interest in the game. the artwork looked great, though.
