In classical pythagoreanism, there is a system of emanations, the many divine beings that serve as "in betweens" for Aion, infinity (aka "God").
Now the emanation system operates as in greek mythology: Aion created Kronos and Rhea, both had sex and made Zeus and Her, who had sex and made the Olympians, rise and repeat. However, appearently at least some ideas seem to think that this process wasn't a single event, but that happens all the time, that Aion becomes Kronos and Rhea every day, that they have their childre and et cetera, being basicall a form of natural event as the universe is changed and [re]created.
