I came across this statement in another part of the forums, and it struck me as being logically inconsistent. Disregarding how one feels about the Reserved List, is this a reasonable statement?
There is a part of me that almost wishes Magic will die just to teach everybody a lesson who is in favor of the [Reserved List] and in the "investment potential" of this game in general.
If this is a logical fallacy, is there a name for the type?
The worst you could say is that it's something like Slippery Slope, since the implication is that supporting the Reserve List will eventually lead to the collapse of the game. But he's not even saying it *will* or even *could* happen, just that "part of [him] almost wishes", which is at least three steps removed from will/could.

He's just looking for empirical evidence he is correct. He's looking for something concrete, like the collapse of the game. Of course, sales would be a little less drastic, but no less concrete (however, I'm pretty sure they'd show no correlation one way or the other).
Anyway, its not any fallacy I've heard of; it's -like- the old saying "cut off your nose to spite your face," but he's not actively doing anything -other than wishing.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
A logical fallacy is an incorrect attempt to apply logic. In order to have one there first has to be some attempt to apply logic.
Thanks for your input, guys. You've all provided some helpful insight.
To me, the essence of the statement is, "I want you to be punished so you'll have proof that you are wrong." That's the illogical part in my mind. Even if that isn't the whole spirit of the thought, he's (almost) wishing for everyone - not just the perceived guilty parties - to face the negative consequences. As said above, clearly an emotional statement, and it need not be analyzed any further.
Again, I appreciate your thoughts.

That post doesn't appear to have any such attempt
Feelings don't have to be logic.
I realized that me and my playgroup would just continue to play magic, even if it 'died'...
These are the decks that I have constructed, and are ready to play:
