Hey guys, I've been waiting patiently for the return to the library. October seems like a good month for us, It has Halloween and I turned 30. I think everyone on Facebook has seen that in contrast to Digi, I've ramped up and been working 13 days every two weeks myself, lol. Making for a less than worrisome Saturnalia, and Halloween has me with a hand crafted wooden project this year. I'll show you guys when it's finished. I would like to second the motion to remove our presence in the Council, as it seems to be nothing more than words in a box on a page of a thread. We could have just as easily been noticed the same in the Water Cooler. Maybe more. In other news, a pair of pros have seen some decent results in the Pro Tour with our colors. Turtenwald has a build similar to my own. I'll be sure to rub that in the faces of all those who deny our guild, and to those who seem to think control won't find a way.
Digi, Would it help to roll call and vote on involvement?
Add: Lemme get this straight? It's over nine months into the year, ALL clan activity is down, they've only gotten 2 clan contest in the books and their answer is to have us replace Digi? Wtf?!?

I'm actually on FB but I'm using an account named "Godofcyanide Swansthresh" (the two main accounts I use in the Transformers: Legends game) mostly to keep in touch with some of my people from that game. My avatar is Acid Storm (who is just a redeco of Starscream, et al.) so it should be easy to find me. Let me know if it's not.
EDIT: I also recently started a forum for some of the old NYCDK heads and a few new jacks we've picked up along the way. I'll share that link via FB or some other less-public manner.

We do have a fb group for members. We decided a while ago that Sally was not the best place to discuss inner clan workings, as well as other topics of interest that would be deemed inappropriate on sally. I'll find you when I get on fb today.

I'll certainly be around here more. I came "back" to MTGS mostly because I just acquired a MacBook Air courtesy of work and was debating getting some MtG software for it. I posted here and got crickets in response... never mind that I ended up paying $15 for a program that I can't seem to get working correctly. :/
I also tossed my Mirrodin-themed cube in the Cube section.
I have something you will definitely appreciate, Digi - and any input you have as to this is appreciated...
The card designs are mostly mine, with some help from my "sneering" buddy from NYCDK, (I think he went by "sneersforcheers" here, other "sneer"-based names in other places...) who is also a Trek fan. I have to say that, aside from the Borg designs, I'm really struggling to get good card designs for the Trek baddies. I'm also looking into cards for one-time enemies, but I'll have to do that on an episode-by-episode basis.
A few conventions I use on my cards:
- Animate spells/permanents are creatures and planeswalkers. Inanimate covers everything else.
- Freecast is an ability that just enables you to avoid the one-spell-per-turn rule in Type 4 (most cards with it have reminder text for it, but I need to update the reminder text as well LOL)
- To slowtap a permanent, tap it and it doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step. (Yes, I'm aware I screwed up with it's in the reminder text, fixed that and need to update images.)
I've been enjoying cube a lot more. Only issue is I have my nice cube that I want to draft, but is too nice to draft. Now if a [Redacted}-esque meet-up were to happen, I would easily bust it out.
I've also been delving into the world of set cubes. Those are a lot of fun. I especially enjoyed IPA with IPA drafts. You drink a few beers and then draft Invasion/Planeshift/Apocalypse. So, so, so, so much fun.

@GoC, this flavor along with the mechanics is nearly flawless in execution. The only flavor change I would make, would be changing the Klingon War Bird to a Bird of Prey. Although it doesn't matter because they have been used by many races, (notably the series and movies are but aren't exactly limited to: TOS: Romulan Bird of Prey, TOSMPs: Klingon Bird of Prey, TNG: Romulan Warbird, TNGMPs: Reman Bird of Prey, Romulans and Reman Predaters, DS9 and VOY: I can't recall a single time a Warbird or Bird of Prey was mentioned. The Klingons used K'tinga and D7 Class K'tinga ships. The Romulans used Predaters and I only have this info from specs, not the actual episodes, ENT: Romulan Bird of Prey), most non-film canon tries to distinguish the two races by using Warbird for Romulan and Bird of Prey for Klingon.
I especially enjoy the suspend cards. In particular the command theme ones.
A lot of the characters I had to think what color they'd be and what they'd do, and you guys pretty much nailed it. At first the Barclay cards caught me off guard but they are perfect.
As far as baddies, what do you mean? Like mechanic wise or just baddies?
Q as a badguy planeswalker could be done, and would fit well. Make him mono W, or mono B. Mono W seems more accurate to me. The Duras sister would be a great card. I can see it having something to do with deck manipulation. A few more legendary starships would be awesome.
I'm about to go to class, but give me a little bit and I'll think of some bad guy card ideas. Word up though: I am no good with actul card making execuation, just general card idea based off the flavor I know and what I know of MtG.
@GoC, this flavor along with the mechanics is nearly flawless in execution.
Thanks, man! That is great praise coming from another Trekkie!!! Pretty much all of DS9, I was leaning on Sneers as DS9 is the series I am least familiar with. I tried to make the card text be reflective of their general actions and relevance in canon.

LOL dude... That card was originally a Bird-of-Prey. I did some research and saw what you said about how they've flipped about time and again with Warbird and Bird of Prey. I really wanted the card to be Klingon, as the flavor of the card is very much in the Klingon realm - if they've got nothing to fight, they'll fight you and they're out. I'll flip it to Klingon Bird-of-Prey next time I hit the file. (I've got like 10 open sets right now, including the beginnings of a Contraptions set! )
I especially enjoy the suspend cards. In particular the command theme ones.
Phasing and the Time Spiral mechanics seemed like good fits here, and I am a HUGE fan of all of those mechanics. We run some of the self-suspending cards in Type 4 and they're really great, so I made some more. The command theme ones (the "Counsel"s) came first, then I realized I should do them for the seconds as well, but have them be less powerful (and non-recurring).
A lot of the characters I had to think what color they'd be and what they'd do, and you guys pretty much nailed it.
Colors were hard in some cases because I wanted to fit both mechanics and flavor together, hence some of the odder costs (Phlox and Wesley Crusher come to mind immediately). Wesley and Kes were also hard to do because of the way the characters departed the show, and Tasha was very limited; I ended up playing off of the flavor that she repeatedly showed up as a cloned villain.
At first the Barclay cards caught me off guard but they are perfect.
Barclay is one of my favorite minor characters in Trek (really it's him and Shran, and you've seen Shran's cards so you know how I feel about him LOL) so I had to make his card great, and my favorite episode with Barclay is when he gets whacked by the probe and takes over the world - that's the Monstrosity trigger. His "Maneuver" is the classic retreat into the holodeck fantasy that the character was famous for.
As far as baddies, what do you mean? Like mechanic wise or just baddies?
Just baddies. There are too many "villains-of-the-week" in Trek and my mind gets lost wrapping around them. I really want to get some of the more individual enemies and a little bit with the reappearing races as well. There's just sooo many!
Q as a badguy planeswalker could be done, and would fit well. Make him mono W, or mono B. Mono W seems more accurate to me.
I see Q as very Esper... His interactions with Picard are overtly Br (he behaves selfishly and seemingly impulsively) but have a strong WU/WB undercurrent (he's testing the human race and directly pushing them to be more than they are, using his powers to be a cosmic trickster with a purpose). He's also omnipotent, which would be difficult to put out on a PW card. His omnipotence was what kept my Q reference strictly to "Encounter with Q." I'll see what I can do with him as a PW. Probably a four-slot one. Note there are subtle differences between "Encounter with Q" and "Barclay's Maneuver."
The Duras sister would be a great card. I can see it having something to do with deck manipulation. A few more legendary starships would be awesome.
I definitely want to make a Duras sisters card; they're some of the more memorable Klingons and were great characters. I definitely want to get more more ships involved as well, if only to not make Travis Mayweather completely useless.
I'm about to go to class, but give me a little bit and I'll think of some bad guy card ideas. Word up though: I am no good with actul card making execuation, just general card idea based off the flavor I know and what I know of MtG.
No doubt, any assistance is greatly appreciated!

It completely shows. I have started to make star trek themed mtg sets many times, but could never really get it off the ground because I could never make the conversion from st character to nagic card smoothly. As cheesy as this sounds, some of these character cards are almost poetic in the convestion.

Like I said and as you pointed out, it doesn't really matter. When you start reading lots of Klingon or Romulan heavy stuff, it is easy to see that the people that /really/ care about canon designated Warbirds for the Romulans and Birds of Prey to the Klingons. I would even go as far to say most casual trek fans recognize that distinction too, however inaccurate it may be.
I think the reason it's all screwy is like the reason any star trek canon is screwy: lazy writing, lol. That tends to happen with stuff as encompassing as star trek though:)
I was actually meaning the cards like "Make it so" when I mentioned command cards. I like the council cards as well, though.
Believe it or not, I used to run a casual phasing/upkeep deck that ran some suspend cards several years back before the exile rule facelift. I think phasing is just one of those really great mechanics that don't see the play it deserves. Wish they would print a few new cards with the mechanic. Alas, I have no faith this will actually happen:( Suspend is also one hell of a mechanic, but I see and play with it often. Suspend is fun.
It is seriously flawless in the conversion. Again, I could not do it better myself and I've tried several times.
Most people despise Lt Barclay, lol! I have no problem with the character though. What draws you to like Barclay, if I may? It took me a second to register the why's and whatfors, but it makes complete sense. They all do, really.
Probably a four-slot one. Note there are subtle differences between "Encounter with Q" and "Barclay's Maneuver."
Maybe I see Q as mono w because he/they are nearly omnipotent because in magic I associate W with divinity. I have no idea what a planeswalker Q could do. Making a Q legend just doesn't seem to do the Q justice to me, (not that you did, I'm just thinking). I could also see the Traveler and Zepherim Cochran as a planeswalker. No clue what they'd do though.
I see a big difference between the two.
I'm having loading issues with my browser, but stay tuned for a list of baddies.
TOS:
Where is Khan Noonien Singh? A million things could be done with that. I would take a safe bet that is is the most iconic villain of all time in the Trek universe.
Kruge! My personal favorite Klingon baddie. I don't know what he could do magic wise, but it wouldhave to be one hell of a card.
M113 monsters/aliens with some sort of cloning ability.
Gorn with some awesome keyword abilities like double strike, haste, trample, ect.
General Chang, he could do all kinds of *****.
TNG:
Tolian Soran from Generations. He could have some anti-borg mechanic. MAybe even an accompanying card in the Nexus, which could have some graveyard ability.
Moriarty. Seriously, "Elementary my Dear Data" is among my favorite episodes of all time. Moriarty would have some reveal and play mechanic. I'm actually quite miffed they didn't print him in the Bandai deck building game.
Gul Madrid, (sp?). He could do a hand replacement thingy. Maybe even comes with a four lights card that makes people discard for revealing certain cards. IDK. That is one hell of a villain though.
Sela with some library manipulation action. Though that kinda plays into Tasha Yar, (which for some reason, all printed canon refers to Tasha as Natasha... which I can't make any sense of).
Shinzon, could be picard-esque, but weaker with an obscure keyword ability. Maybe even the viceroy with some hand peaking ability.
DS9:
Kai Winn. Seriously, think about it... she could do something specific against star ships, or **** cardissians. Either or...
Brunt the ferangi. He could do some sort of taxes ability. Maybe even something like beaurocratic nonsense that ****s everything up.
"Luthor Sloan". He's like a spy/covert agent. Kinda sadistic both in mental and physical ways. I can see him with hand/library manipulation. Maybe even an insta kill of some sort.
Gul Dukat. While not always exactly a villain, his is almost always villianous, if that makes sense. This is one of those characters I am having a hard time defining as a magic card, but like Kruge, it would have to be one hell of a card with multiple abilities. The more I think about Gul, the more I see him as my favorite character on DS9.
The dominion with some crazy ass recurring mass destruction ability would fit well. Different characters could easily be different creature types with a subtype of dominion.
VOY:
The Vidians with some sort of stealing ability. Maybe even some sort of -1/-1 counter distribution.
I can't recall their name off hand, but the aliens in the episode Emanations that kind of put Kim into the afterlife, (kinda). They could have some sort of graveyard ability. Maybe even some weird mill ability, (are there regular mill abilities anymore anyway?). Obviously not that memorable if I can't recall their name. I will say Voyager is my least favorite Trek, though.
Species 8472. They could have maybe some amped up evolve mechanic. Maybe even be indestructible.
I feel the borg are more Voyager baddies than TNG baddies as a whole. But you got the borg covered.
ENT:
John Frederick Patterson is the only super memorable villain on the show, at least to me. Some of his quotes actually related to many of the anti middle eastern sentiment forming in the united states at the time of airing and were alarmingly scary to think about in relation to how many people were feeling. He could have a pro-human ability of some sort. Maybe even an anti non human ability.
The mimetic symbiote. It could be a clone with haste and sac it in a turn or two. It would have to be cheap. Maybe even have an illusion clause.
Arik Soong and the eugenics outcasts. Something bad ass would have to come out of the cards, but I feel they were among the best villains on ENT.
That should help a bit, though I'm sure you considered at least most of them.
A mirror Universe card or maybe even some mirror universe characters would be sick.
I'm gonna respond to all the points you made later, but a few quickies:
- Misunderstood the "command" cards bit. Oops! I definitely want to do more of those... I need to find a way also to get this flavor text on a card:
"We really should have a directive for these sorts of things" - Jonathan Archer (paraphrased lol, he said this like five times, in five different ways, during the series)
- Khan and the augments need cards, indeed. I need to rewatch the TOS ep with him, and then catch Wrath of Khan again to get the full feel for the character. All the Soong/Singh/whatevers as well.
- Totally slept on Soran and Shinzon. Another two S-names we both forgot and need cards: Sarek and Silik.
- The Traveler is totally a PW. Daniels from ENT needs to be a PW as well. Other than that, I don't want too many PWs unless the character is above and beyond the abilities of the standard of their race. (Daniels gets it because of the time travel.) Future Guy would be hilarious as well, and is definitely a PW.
- I need to take a weekend and rewatch the Xindi arc to get the flavors of the Xindi races and individual characters. Degra ABSOLUTELY needs a card, as does the Aquatic starship. I think the five races of Xindi are easy color-pie matches: Arboreals: G; Reptilian: R; Insectoid: B; Aquatic: U; Primate(?): W. Degra is definitely WU, and the Arboreals' delegate is GW.
- My shout-out to the Mirror Universe is on Hoshi Sato's card. Empress, indeed.

There is a book called "The Federation: The First 100 Years" that breaks down every time he said something like this and explains the formation of the prime directive. Not that any is needed. But that book is probably my favorite coffee table book:)
I considered Salek when making this list, but I don't perceive him as a villain.

(I've got like 10 open sets right now, including the beginnings of a Contraptions set! )
Just baddies. There are too many "villains-of-the-week" in Trek and my mind gets lost wrapping around them. I really want to get some of the more individual enemies and a little bit with the reappearing races as well. There's just sooo many!
I definitely want to make a Duras sisters card; they're some of the more memorable Klingons and were great characters. I definitely want to get more more ships involved as well, if only to not make Travis Mayweather completely useless.
No doubt, any assistance is greatly appreciated!

And if I've offended you, I'm sorry, but maybe you need to be offended. But here's my apology and one more thing...
It is seriously flawless in the conversion. Again, I could not do it better myself and I've tried several times.
Most people despise Lt Barclay, lol! I have no problem with the character though. What draws you to like Barclay, if I may? It took me a second to register the why's and whatfors, but it makes complete sense. They all do, really.

And if I've offended you, I'm sorry, but maybe you need to be offended. But here's my apology and one more thing...
There is a book called "The Federation: The First 100 Years" that breaks down every time he said something like this and explains the formation of the prime directive. Not that any is needed. But that book is probably my favorite coffee table book:)
I considered Salek when making this list, but I don't perceive him as a villain.
