I don't necessarily like that they're designing cards specifically for EDH these days, but then Prossh wouldn't be a thing if they didn't and I love Prossh.
Khans is annoying for a few reasons, to me. The clan that seems to be focused on spells (UWR, don't know the name and don't care) isn't so much focused on spells, it's more "cast spells so that combat is better." Khans is focused almost entirely on combat, and while the few control/combo cards are decent (treasure cruise and dig through time are decent for both, the UWR ascendancy is pretty decent for combo with constant filtering) it doesn't have enough of them.
There's a lot of gold in there for Constructed junkies.
I'm particularly excited about Crackling Doom, actually.
A card that forces your opponent to do something. It's not your everyday edict. It specifically targets the creature with the most power, without actually targeting it.
Which means you can set up situations that favor you, as long as you know the conditions.
And then it does 2 damage.
And it scales for multiplayer, of all things.
It oozes flavor and I want to build a deck featuring it.
This is an edit on my previous upload, as of an hour ago. I'm getting ready to buy the cards!
Oh, dont get me wrong, Im getting 7 boxes. I just think the standard format is blargh. The actual drafts which are my favorite and I host 1 in my house every 14 days, will be skill intensive, but there will still be tons of frustrating games lost because your opponent is abzan, and went T1-Forest, T2-Plains, T3-Swamp and you are Jeskai with a plains, a mountain and 5 gold cards.....
Also dont we have 3 members in the TRIumvir...... I sure only see 2 of them posting.....
Also, to those that know, I am huge fan of the Terry Goodkind series Wizards First Rule. I never got past book 9. I Read the first book over 10 years ago, so recently I dug it off my book-shelf and am re-reading the series. I am about 300 pages into book 1 and man even though I remember some stuff its still amazing. I believe 2 others here have read it, and 1 other currently (albeint slowly :-p ) is reading it.
Ment to tell you just finished book two, it was really great, felt bad for Scarlett of all things.
Hopefully one day we will get to draft together.
Edit: On crackling doom, I love the art. adore it.
Edit2: I'm counting on you Mindslavor to let me know when you feel it is the best time for me to drop money and buy all the fetches from this set I am missing. I think the $12 mark.
I've been stocking Ashioks. There are a lot of 4 and 5 mana creatures that will be pretty dominant in the slower post-rotation standard. It's perfect for Ashiok to run in a control list in order to exile-mill and steal them the turn after, most likely BUG. Thoughts?
So I played in 2 pre-release events, I ran 3 altogether but only played in 2. I can judge and play because our shop is a pretty good bunch. I won both events I played, 1 with Mardu, 1 with Jeskai. The format is bonkers fun. Man was I wrong about this set. WotC got it right and there is JUST the right amount of mana fixing without being too much. I got 28 prize packs, which I havent opened. But I didnt get a single fetch in any of my 3 pre-release boxes.
I already have 20 though, man I love working for my store. I have 6 deltas

A stroke. That ain't right. It must be agreed that a community is a good thing to have. It's so fragile though; I mean, acceptance by peers is a pressure one feels from the youngest age, yet the talent for actually maintaining it is never something understood, not until later, maybe never. The angst associated to that tension is characterizing, that's what I mean is fragile.
The foregoing not applying to Ouraios, who has no peers, and myself, who only lately felt the need of bonds.
I watched both Primer and Network recently. Network is an exemplary film. Primer is something I've been misled about from the first. It is not a great film or even a good film. A properly written plot exposition is more enjoyment than watching the film itself. The writer/director set a number of goals for the film which, in accomplishment, were at the cost of factors actually necessary for success like exposition. Also the acting is bottom tier.
And I dunno where I got the idea it tells the story once from start to finish.

KTK limited is slow and grinding. I'm alright with that(?), except games were taking longer than normal. I don't play standard because the format has just turned perpetually stale. I'm posting from my iPad and just got done playing some Legacy (guess what deck). Even though I play Legacy infrequently, every Legacy match I complete puts me further away from non-Legacy constructed magic. I've playing magic for a long time though. I play Modern sometimes, mostly jamming the Ad Nauseam deck because it's adorable and I love it.
Maybe it's because I grew up with the game and remember using Tolarian Academy in standard, never mind the other role call of power permanents that are on various ban/restricted lists. I'm not as huge fan of creature centric Magic. Maybe I'm weird.
... who are you?
My search shows last time you posted in the Clans forum was three years ago. I'd like to welcome you to our discussions, but as an introduction that was... disorienting.
I think I share an appreciation of old formats now. Standard was all about simplicity for me, but most of my favorite sets are in antiquity now, and my most stylish decks. I only play constructed casual though. Limited I take seriously, but is obviously current.
I collected my first paycheque today~!

congrats on the funds H_H!
As for favorite formats, i like Legacy (running Team America / BUG variants) and Legacy-Lite (EDH).
KTK is definetly a bit slower. I could only play 1 pre and I loved Temur! I still can't see how standart will evolve, but I am not caring atm. I already turned my head to modern. Somehow I like the idea more and KTK gave me two cards to experiment with for a black rack deck. Let's see how it turns out.

I generally haven't been enjoying standard since Innistrad rotated out. Not one bit. Standard rotations like Lorwyn, Urza's, 7th, and Zendikar are what make enjoy it. Khans might be right up there, but it doesn't have cards like Ponder, Memory Lapse, Mana Leak, Lightning Bolt, Smallpox, Clique, Flickerwisp, Goblin Guide, Acridian, Bereavement, etc. that make standard worth playing for me. I like powerful cards. I do NOT like picking the "slightly-most-powerful cards in some situations but hardly in others" like RTR/Theros standard. While we don't have absurd cards like Ponder, with Khans we have fetchlands, Thoughtseize, Despise, Void Snare, and other cheap cards to feed into Delve. More efficient plays are on the way with Khans!
Quick summary of my events, for anyone that cares:
Probably going to SCG this weekend, but rather than play in the main events, just gonna smash the EDH tables all day. See what kind of profit I can make.
Brewing standard combo, also put back together UR owling mine for modern.
Playing Persona 4, now. Makes me want to start playing Persona 4 Arena again, but alas, no one to play with.
Also picked up Guilty Gear X, hoping to branch out into other fighting games, but my lack of knowledge in the area proved a problem, as the game being played these days (as far as I'm aware) is an offshoot of Guilty Gear XX. I am behind the times.
Found out moving someone to the U.S. is a complicated matter.

Story of my life.
My first paycheque was for a day; I don't get paid for reals until next week. I didn't bother to photocopy the first one like some people do. I'll copy the second one. The work is nothing special, just some light warehouse labour. I can make payments on my student loans with that much, and then who knows? Maybe I can get into supply chaining, or return to uni for Mathematics one day.
It's curious that you liked Innistrad so much Gunso. For me that set did not measure up. Limited was a disaster with it; my greatest enjoyment was making a fringe Red-White deck that really wanted the Red-White dual , and when that dual came out the deck got outmoded by actual tools from the new set. I told Arctursa about it, it was when I had Cockatrice before my computer broke last time.

This business in Hong Kong is serious. Grave consequences will come to the West no matter how Beijing answers this crisis.
damn this thread got heavy quick - i havent been following the news on this; can you give my your perspective / the abridged version? with china as one of our major business partners in the US, any problems they have could have serious implications over the states.
It's the usual "free world" vs dictatorship issue. The chinese party is trying to force the candidates in the electrion, so they can control the democracy that surprisingly is still in the region.
Obviously, the population of HK will have none of that.
I am a pessimist here, at one point the chinese government will find a way, but for now it failed. I just hope they may not repeat Tianamen square, since this may worsen all.

Yeah that. The difficulty being that the West almost certainly isn't going to oppose Beijing's decision with any trenchancy, which could very well break the illusion of caring about democracy they've cast on our citizens. Alternatively, if Beijing does cave, China itself will enter crisis, and that sounds dangerous.

Hence the quotes. I'I'd really love to see someone following up on that freedom thing. I still hope all goes well, I'm in no mood of a 3rd World War because such a crisis...
On happier news, anyone got the chance to play Smash brothers? I got it and I felt pleasantly surprised by the game.

Khans has great art but.. I just don't feel it. I dislike formats that start turn 3.
I need to get back into Legacy.
Additionally 3DS friend code for Smash is 0318-8142-7830 (Alchemist)
I'm getting pretty good with Link using the Fierce Deity costume because he's badass.
Did I ever mention the idea of using a friend code is terrible and we should just pick unique usernames or something.. this just seems annoying.
