I'm cutting the chase: If were to hold Clan Contest Mafia this year soon, would you guys be interested in it?
(No problem if you haven't played earlier or aren't expert: As long as you are interested and willing to try, it's enough!)

Congrats indeed! I actually like the looks of that Esper Dragons deck enough to potentially play standard for the first time in several years. The PLA idea for the mirror also sounds pretty good.
Its a shame that at the point when I'm becoming more interested than I have in the past several months in MTG also happens to be the time I've got the least income to work with in the past 5 years. Hopefully I can get things fixed and play more and join you guys in the fun (although it's highly unlikely i'll join in the PT fun).
I have not been around in awhile. Between teaching and working on a masters degree, I haven't been able to get here much. I've been playing as much Magic as I can. I've been wasting time in the magicmtg subreddit even though there really isn't much useful content there. I miss this place more than I realize. Some highlights from the past few months:
I won a $25 in credit from tcgplayer from Mike Flores's "Make the Play Monday" column. Since then, he has been ignoring my correct assessments of his scenarios for other people's correct assessments.
I built Raphael Levy's modern Loam Pox deck. It seems really fun. I took it to a shop that does weekly modern nights, and got paired round one against a janky mill deck. Things did not go well. I haven't played it since. I probably should, because I really like the deck.
I needed a weekend away, so I traveled to Toronto for the GP. I decided to play a WU tokens deck that seemed kind of fun. It made top 8 at the Kansas rptq. I tested it online, and enjoyed it. I have a buddy in Toronto who I was staying with, and felt comfortable in the fact that if I failed to make day 2, my buddy would take me sailing. I took two early losses, but then started wrecking bad players on my way to a 7-2 record (including a first round bye). Day 2 went terribly, as I lost twice to Abzan aggro and once to Esper Dragons. All three losses could have been prevented had I played better. Still missed out on sailing, but got to enjoy some delicious thai food and some quality time with my buddy. Plus Canada is awesome. They posted the deck I played as the best performer with my archetype (or in this case the only deck of this archetype). See 170th place.
Sometime I'll post my "I got on the wrong bus trying to get to the venue, but the bus driver ended up being way too helpful and nice and helped me get to where I needed to go even though it wasn't his route because Canada" story.
After contemplating whether or not I could actually compete at two day events, as my play on day 2 reflected a combination of typical play errors coupled with errors resulting from being mentally drained from the day before, I go to FNM the next weekend to see some friends and remember why I like playing Magic. I discover that there is a sealed pptq the next day. I reluctantly decide to go even though I'm not feeling great. I 3-0 the draft at FNM.
The next morning I drag myself out of bed and get in the Sealed pptq. I lose round 1 to a local guy who has been to the pro tour before. I don't feel too bad until I find out I was his only win that day. I get a bye round 2, and then win my next three rounds. It's only a 5 round tournament, but because my tie breakers are so bad, I had to play and win that last round to get in. In the top 8 the draft goes weird. There are at least 4 other competent to great drafters at the table, but I keep receiving gifts I don't deserve. I start to wonder if there is some kind of joke when in pack three I open Supplant Form and am passed Supplant Form 3rd and 5th picks. I maindeck all three because why not. I win round one despite my opponent having Ugin. I win round two against a guy who has been on the pro tour before (and who I respect as a very good player). He is visibly angry that I was passed the Supplant Form that he opened (the one I got 5th). I then win the final during which my opponent managed to manifest Volcanic Vision both games. I'm feeling really good because the next rptq is sealed.
Back from GP Florence. It was a great trip, though the Magic-playing part didn't go particularly well. It served as a blunt reminder of how incredibly awful I've become (and to an extent, have always been) at Magic, and I definitely didn't deserve to win any more than the little I did. But the other team from our house made the top 4, and as always it was fantastic to see my friends doing well. In any case, these trips have become less about Magic and more about everything else surrounding the event (sightseeing, food, meeting old friends, talking), and in that regard the trip certainly delivered. Looking forward to the next one!

I had no idea you were there! We went a disappointing 6-1 into 6-3, with some pretty extreme series of manascrews in both r1 and r9. I had a mono blue aggro deck that I really enjoyed playing, but it clearly wasn't meant to be. Unfortunate, cause basically everyone in day two got money. The trip was enjoyable though. Next will be the monster-GP in Utrecht.
You really just need to embrace the rage. I keep a small colony of hamsters next to my computer and every time I lose a match to mana screw I throw one against the wall.

I know exactly how you feel. I have hardly touched magic since Fate Reforged, and lately played a bunch with some visiting friends. I was so, so rusty. Complicated board states that would've been nothing two years ago caused me to make misplays. Ah well, it happens.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."
I finished 16th at GP Utrecht with a 13-2 record (7-2 Sealed, 6-0 Draft). I was at no point in t8 contention so I was just having a good time and drafting sweet decks and incidentally winning. It's still a bit of a mixed feeling to get that record and not even getting a PT invite out of it (since I was already q'ed). But I'm still happy with my result, and especially happy for some other people who qualified for Vancouver at the tournament.

Yeah, I saw, good job! We only got to watch one of your games on camera, I think, which was the game you lost to Marcio Carvalho. Is the proliferate deck with Thrummingbirds actually good? It's the sort of deck I generally try to shy away from, so I wouldn't get to know.
I wish I was there. I really like the format, and would have loved an opportunity to battle in a GP with MM2, but I had to prioritize otherwise. I'm also very busy at work these days, so I don't get to play as much MM2 on Modo as I'd like either.
I wouldn't say I know that much about the format (I haven't played it apart from the GP), but it felt really powerful. Proliferate is just incredibly strong with Graft - I think people underestimate it because Proliferate wasn't that strong the first time. Everybody knows it "works together" but I don't know if they realize just how strong it is. For example, if you play 1 Graft creature, 1 normal creature you graft onto, and 1 Steady Progress, you get two power and toughness plus a card for three mana, at instant speed. That's already a pretty sweet deal (compare to Burrenton Bombardier which was very good), and it's almost the low end of what you usually get. And Steady Progress was a very low playable in its format!
For the same reason, I think Inexorable Tide is actually strong in a dedicated deck. Everyone told me it wasn't playable, but that's because it wasn't playable in its format. Here it pretty much give my entire team +1/+1 or even +2/+2 each turn. It generally prompted concessions within two turns of being played, and won me a long game vs Affinity by allowing me to draw my entire deck with Novijen Sages.

Yeah, my interest in Limited Magic is also on the decline, I have to admit, but I still play a fair amount, as I still think Magic is fun, even if it's not as fun as it was. But MTGS is losing one of its all-time best members, so that's unfortunate
Hey, visit us sometimes, eh? Thanks for 10 years of high quality posts!
I don't think anyone here plays as much as they used to. I pretty much only play limited and only do constructed when I can find quirky decks (I like the Rally/Collected Company list in standard, but the rest of the format has been very boring, and elves looks like something I could get behind in modern). Good luck in life, bateleur, and perhaps we will hear from you again if you have a change of heart.
In other news, prepping for GP Detroit (team sealed) with my team with mock pools and build phases. We pulled a sick GB elf deck with double Shaman of the Pack, double Gnarlroot Trapper, and double Sylvan Messenger, aaand triple Yeva's Forcemage. In the second pool, we got a sweet UG stall deck with The Great Aurora and Gaea's Revenge with Sphinx's Tutelage as an alternate wincon.

Been a long time since I had a story-worthy game, but this one was pretty fun.
Had double Sigiled Starfish and scryed through my entire deck trying to stave off the killing blow. Eventually I was stable at three life with two Jhessian Thief and a surviving Starfish holding off a 1/3 Valeron Wardens and Herald of the Pantheon, and my opponent was at 1 life. I had Negate in hand, but I knew the remaining eight cards in my library were all land. Basically, I was about to lose to decking myself and there was nothing I can do about it.
So I attack with both guys, my opponent blocks them, and cracks back. I block the Wardens to go to 1, and he plays Mighty Leap on his Herald, and I counter it. He proceeds to have only one blocker to play and I win the game and match.
I realize there's a fairly long list of things my opponent did there to let me win that match, but it was pretty satisfying regardless.

I'd read that article! A lot of my friends are suuuuuper psyched about the new premium mythics, talking about ordering cases of Zendikar, etc., but something just feels... off, to me. I like Magic for the fun of 2-for-1ing with a cool sorcery, or outthinking my opponent. I can't tell if it's just sour grapes about having spent thousands on Magic and not wanting to keep re-investing, but it feels strange to see Magic become all about blinged-out decks and which creature is going to be the next Goyf.
I'll definitely miss your contributions. If you have a twitter or blog or something, I'd surely check it out. (If you want want to publicly share something like that, feel free to PM me.)

Yeah, I still cube and play EDH very occasionally, and sometimes I teach people Magic, but... I'm more-or-less on a break from the game, until I get really in the mood to play limited again. Khans should've been the ideal get-back-in-there set for me, but nothing has clicked.
For Limited, it's reeeeally hard for me to care about a draft format, unless I care a LOT. I want to be an expert. I want to have strong opinions. If I can't be fully devoted to a game, then I tend to lose interest.

Heya Promatim, good to see you. Nice that you haven't completely forgotten your old stomping grounds yet
I understand where you're coming from re: Limited these days. We've just got to accept that we're dinosaurs at this point and that Limited Magic has moved on. Perhaps not to our liking, but perhaps for the best of the game overall. I don't know. It's longer and longer between the sets I actually enjoy. Khans was fine, but I didn't think it was great, and all the sets surrounding it (Theros block, M15, Fate Reforged, Dragons of Tarkir, Magic Origins) have been bummers for me Limited-wise. I still have hope for Return to Zendikar, and I am excited for it.
But instead of taking a break from the game, like you have, I've turned to the enemy (constructed). I wouldn't say I play a lot, but I play pretty much every competitive constructed format (Vintage, Legacy, Modern, Standard) every now and then, and I've been enjoying it. Constructed is a lot more fun when you just play when you want to, and what you want. I'm currently pondering attending GP Prague next year (Legacy), which would be my first trip to a constructed GP in eight years. More important than the actual game, however, is having a couple of close friends who are excited about constructed, and bringing me along to various tournaments. The three of us have, as a result, dominated the local scene for a while. Most of the time, all three of us are in the top eight of any given tournament, with one of us ending up taking it down. The WMCQ last week was no exception, with me facing one of said friends in the final (and him earning the invite in the end). It's fun to play with friends, and it's fun to feel like you're doing something right.
Speaking of doing something right, what's up with Tahn's recent resurgence? This weekend he almost took down GP Prague, and he's already crushed some tournaments earlier this year. It's pretty sweet to see.

I loaded up the GP Prague page completely at random just after the T8 was announced. That was a nice surprise.

Hey guys, I hop in to say hello and see whose still around and all the recent posts are talking about how nobody is here anymore (or at least as much as we all were when Promatim first formed the clan a few years back)! Kind of ironic. My personal involvement on the forums has been extremely minimal lately, mostly due to the fact that I can't access the site from work and find myself too busy for lengthy forum posts at home these days.
But I still think of you guys all the time and I still play! Still limited exclusively and still almost exclusively online.
However! My real reason for checking in here today was to see if anyone is planning on being at GP Madison this weekend? As you may or may not recall Madison is my home town and I'd be very excited to meet any of you. I'll be playing in the main event (a limited GP in my home town, wouldn't miss it for almost anything!) Let me know if anyone is going to be there, please!
It's more that people always overvalue removal. Really, if they make a card ":symb:: Sorcery: As an additional cost, get F'd in the A. Destroy target creature." people will say "removal is removal" and first-pick it.

Yep, still alive! And Tahn's stuff has been quite cool to see. Right now, I just can't financially justify Limited, which is kind of a shame, because Battle for Zendikar actually looks pretty neat.
Ah well, I REALLY like Cube and EDH, and I've been having fun setting records in a small speedrun community (Terraria), so that's been a blast.
Re:Bateleur - Noted! I'll definitely look for you on one or two of those nifty social media platforms. Hope making games is going well.

I like to check on the clan now and then, just to see how things are going. It's been since... whatever came before Theros, that I really, really followed Magic. I never thought I'd go on this long of a break again, and I feel kind of filthy.
As soon as I have some spare cash, I'm hopping back on the limited train.
Edit: And I'm a bit far from Madison, but if I'm ever by that way visiting my cousins, I'll look you up!

I don't keep a blog at the moment. Might get back to it at some point...
I loaded up the GP Prague page completely at random just after the T8 was announced. That was a nice surprise.

<Limited Clan>

Haha, yeah, you did kinda walk in on us all reminiscing about how we're never here.
The GP was a great time, I actually posted a full write up here if anyone cares to check it out: Cardoc's write up
