So I know the basic rules of magic and can get through a game without much help but this will be my first real dive into the game. I have some cards here at home but just cant make the time to play people in real life.
Is MTGO easy to get into for relatively cheap? I don't need the expensive cards. Just want something that could be competetive and fun. I don't mind spending some money just don't want to use a lot.
Where should I go to get some started cards? Thanks for you input guys!
oooh, MTGO is actually pretty expensive you could always try www.magic-league.com it is free, and uses the program Magic Workstation (MWS) www.magicworkstation.com you will need the new masterbase... tehe... and probably the card pictures

The MTGO secondary market is far cheaper than the real life cards secondary market. There are plenty of bots on MTGO that can give you free cards per month too. Usually up to 64 cards per month. So this is an easy way to at least get set with your land.
As far as cheapest prices amongst all the bots, check with MTGOtraders. Their prices are the cheapest out there amongst the mass amount of bots.
If your wondering about how much the big cards like Fetch lands, DoJ, or BoP will cost, their a helluva lot cheaper online. There is also a bot called "infobot" that will tell you how much a card costs amongst the top 2-4 bots. All you have to do with that bot, is send it a pm with the cardname and set. (example: PC Wrath of God 9th ED)
Plus, just because i'm friendly, I usually have no problems giving away cards to new players. I draft, and get extra stuff that I don't mess with too much with bots, so I give it away.
MTGO is alot cheaper than paper cards and I am not to sure why people think its expensive. Possibly due to them comparing them to free software? I personally would not recommend starting with a software such as magic workstation. It has no major rules engine nore is there a community base that is as easy to use as the MTGO software.
Plus from your original post I believe the advantage you will see using it not only is the fact you can easily find other players, but with a limited knowledge of how the game is played the wizards online software will actually stick to the rules (which you can actually learn from).
Startup cost is $10US and as other people have mentioned acquiring new card prices are scaled similar to paper cards due to rarity but relative costs to there paper counterpart is much cheaper.
