Our tireless editorial crew has selected five articles printed last month to be available for you to vote on for the May Article of the Month! The winners will receive exciting cash prizes through PayPal and store credit from www.RancoredElf.com.
Our first-place winner will receive $75 (funds sent by PayPal), and our second-place winner will receive $25 by PayPal and $25 in store credit from www.RancoredElf.com. Winners who can't receive payment to a PayPal account may receive RE.com store credit instead.
The nominees are (alphabetical by article title, ignoring column titles)...
1) The 2007 Regionals Primer, by HKKID
An incredibly effective summary of the current Standard: Dragons and Dralnu and Gruul, oh my! Think you're ready for Regionals this weekend? Read this article to make sure you've remembered all of your competition.
2) The Basics of Card Design, by Shylo Elliott
What to do and not to do when you're creating your own batch of Magic cards. This article covers the basics, such as the color pie and avoiding text-glut, but also deeper conceps such as balancing for limited.
3) Favorite Magic Stories, by Dark Ritual
Everyone has a story - and five of our regular writers get together to tell their stories here. Exciting, funny, and insightful, there's something here for everyone.
4) Mike Flores for Dummies, by Nathan Fealko
Magic strategists use big words. Nathan uses weird words to convey the same principles, along with a generous helping of off-the-wall humor and an intermission. An important article for new competitive players, and a fun read for experienced players!
Go back and read 'em again! You'll find them entertaining the second time, I hope, and it will refresh your memory for better voting. I must stress: Please do not vote unless you have read all five of these articles.
ALSO NOTE: Accounts with zero posts are not allowed to vote. With the new higher prize payouts, this rule will be very strictly enforced.
You have a week from this posting to vote.

But seriously, if you can't remember "Woapalanne", just call me Eli.
Hkkid Ftw. An incredibly well-written and informative article. With the absence of Bateleur and his incredible talking cat, this article thoroughly deserves to win.

But seriously - HKKID's article is way ahead of the kind of stuff I write. Actual well researched Magic content.
Got my vote, anyway.

My favorite read was Mike-Flores for Dummies. Voted for myself though, 'cause I'm a selfish bastard.
Oh and Bat, could I borrow your cat for my next article? I tried to ask my dog for magic advice, but she did nothing but eat my FOW and lick her naughty parts.
I was told today that this kid on my team called 911 twice this morning and hung up both times. They called back and his dad answered. The reason the kid called 911? He got an erection and didn't know what to do. I wish I was making this up.
HKKID's article was incredibly useful for those who have been out of the standard scene for the last few months or so.

Quote from "Mysticake" »
(about the English language) It's kinda like a raft that was cobbled together from parts of three different boats and since then has been kept barely afloat with crude repairs every time a leak appeared.
HKKID's article was pretty well written, but a lot of it is just baseless opinion. Grouping things like Solar Flare and Project X into the "bad choices" column without any real basis (especially after Solar Falre put up strong foreign results) seems a little foolish and arbitrary.
Eliminator (Shylo)'s article gets the vote this month. Card design, while niche, is a really underexplored and fun area, and his article is sound and well-written.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, the wisdom to know the difference, and a ****ing chainsaw.
I voted for Mike Flores for dummies... cos well I like the lay out and pictures and overall feel of the article. It was a good comfortable read, dishing out some theories and trying to keep it simple. (some parts it got a little confusing but it was alright overall)

5) Scathe Zombies Strike Back... in TIME!, by VestDan
You have a Scathe Zombies in hand, so obviously you cycle Scathe Zombies and then play Scathe Zombies for its madness cost so that your Scathe Zombies in play gains fear while killing your opponent's Scathe Zombies. If that sentence made any sense to you, you must play Mental Magic. Have you seen what Time Spiral block has done to the format?
